posting links to your own site

hi guys, just wondering what is the rule to posting links that go to your site or blog or a blog post you have written if the blog article contains some affiliate links?

I see a lot of questions being asked where I have came across blog posts or wrote blog posts that answer those questions, however; some of the articles do indeed contain affiliate links. other articles may not contain any links.

is it against forum rules to link to an article that has any form of affiliate link in it? I know you shouldn't be posting affiliate links directly in the forum but what about posting to articles that answer peoples questions but actually have links in there? is that also forbidden?

Some forums allow but some don't. It is best practice to read forum rules before posting links on the forum post but I would recommend you to create a signature line of your website. This way you can invite people to your site.

In the pre-Freelancer days, it kind of went on a case by case basis. If the link was part of an extensive reply on the forum, and the link was for background info or something, you could get away with doing it occasionally.

Posting links with one-liners was generally frowned on, even if the link might have some value. This was (is?) a discussion forum, not a link dump.

Nowadays, with paid moderators, it's hard to tell what's allowed and what isn't anymore.

Not long ago, one of the mods deleted my sig because I let an extra line feed creep in, and because he couldn't tell the difference between a plain Amazon link and an affiliate link. Yet I've seen naked affiliate links in posts last for days.

The user report system is still in place, so I'd still operate under the old rules. If you're linking just for a link or possible traffic, don't do it. If the link adds value to your contribution ON the forum, give it a shot.

[Warning: I have no inside info or ability to affect posts beyond the report function, so proceed at your own risk.]

Linking to your own sites is not allowed. Mods will delete them when reported, and if done frequently enough will ban those who do it.
