Question about squeeze page visibility?

I'm building a website at the moment and I have a squeeze page and a Sales Letter page. I was wondering what the URL of the Squeeze page should be?
I take it you have the domain name set to the Sales Letter page?
But say I did some pay per click to send people to my squeeze page to build my list and the URL was: http://www.mysite.com/squeezepage

What's to stop the person finding the salespage by deleting the URL so that they can view the domain (i.e. the salespage) which will of course waste your paid click.
Hope this is clear?

You can fix that by simply redirecting your main domain, Ex: mysite.com, to your squeeze page, that way if they do try that, they'll just land in the same spot.

With your Sales Letter page, just make it something like mysite.com/buy and it'll solve your problem.

Also, forgot one thing to add. Say you don't want your sales letter to show up in the search engines, all you have to do is add a robots.txt file to the location where you're main index is located. If you're not sure how to create a robots.txt file, go to Google and type in "robots.txt generator" and you'll find several resources.

    Hope this helps dude :-)

Thanks for the quick reply Mike,

What happens if they have already subscribed to your list and they want to visit your salesletter page by visiting the domain? Do you need to set cookies or does it redirect them from within your autoresponder script?

Do you always hide your salesletters from the search engines?

  • Even if you redirect from an index page to a squeeze page, the name of the page has an impact on conversions.

You want the name of your pages--whether they are a squeeze page, a sales page, an "about us" page--whatever--to either be neutral (41234098.html) or to encourage the sale (freebonus.html)

I would also redirect those who have already been added to your list directly to your sales page. I have a script to do that if anyone is interested.

Edit: just pm me or comment here and I'll get it to you.

If they go to your squeeze page and don't want to sign up then they might chop off "squeezepage" and see your main domain. That's like free traffic. That is a good thing. You can try to sell them something on the root domain. You got people to see your squeeze page and your domain for the price of one click.

  • I typically use php redirects, but I realized that won't work for many people because they have no idea how to do php. So, I had my guy put up a quick and very dirty page where you can create javascript to paste into your pages that will cause people who have already subscribed to be directed to your sales page.
