Isn't all internet marketing "Niche Marketing"?

People talk about niche marketing like it's a different way to make money online. But I don't understand, everything you do online to make your money is involved in a certain niche isn't it?

Can someone explain the difference, I'm confused.

It sure is. Different names for marketing are ways to market.

Niche marketing, it's a just different name but all process is similar to content marketing. So when you make high quality, useful content people get attracted to buy from your website or affiliate program.

Previously it was called affiliate marketing and now it becomes niches marketing. No different at all, from my point of view as well.

Actually, the term 'niche marketing' is not synonymous with 'affiliate marketing'. Not even close.

The term was coined to differentiate between marketing to small, specific subsets of a given market as opposed to broad, sweeping markets.

        Consider two approaches:

        > Marketer A wants to target the so-called "health niche" aimed at anyone who is interested in health.

        > Marketer B narrows that down to "women over 50 who want to avoid weight gain after menopause."

A is aiming a shotgun at the broad side of a barn. He might make a few dents, but have little real success.

B is using a sniper rifle, aiming at a smaller bullseye. If he hits the bull, he can own it.

I'm going to rewrite your question...

Isn't all smart Internet Marketing "Niche Marketing"?

        Yes.

          Karmadog,

John (above) is right. Affiliate marketing and niche marketing are totally different.

Affiliate marketing is best done when the marketer concentrates on specific niche markets, but the the terms shouldn't be used interchangeably.

The term "niche" according to my dictionary: 1. "an ornamental recess in a wall or the like, usually semicircular in plan and arched, as for a statue or other decorative object. 2. a place or position suitable or appropriate for a person or thing."

In marketing, a niche is a "void" or a place where you position your business in a marketplace that you want to address. You find a very specific need, a desire, or a problem that you can solve for the prospects in your marketplace. You fill the void or the space you've chosen to plant your business with your own products, content, assistance, services, etc. Or you could choose to offer affiliate products instead of, or in addition to, your own.

Just remember, a niche is a very specific part of a larger (broader) marketplace. It is often a "hole" or a gap that you choose to fill so that you can differentiate and specialize on a narrow piece of the overall market.

I think you are very correct.

I do not want to get too caught up in definitions and terminology

because in the end of the day, no matter what business you are in online or offline.

It should be our goal as business owners to provide specific solutions to a specific group of people or to our "target audience"

I think your question is geared in this direction:

No matter what we do, it is a wise business decisions to target our products, services, and marketing efforts for a particular "target audience"

which are just a group of people that share a similar problem that your business can solve.

Unless you are coca-cola and can spend millions of dollars on mass media advertising

like tv ads, bill boards, and marketing that create mass brand awareness

Then we must settle into a particular group of people with similar problems that you know you and/or your business can solve.

So instead of thinking of a "niche" as of a subject to build your business around

I like to think of it as a group of people I want to reach and serve with my business.

this makes the concept a lot more real, and understandable.

The way you go about doing that, is up to you.

rather that be affiliate marketing, email marketing, creating you own products, and so on..

But before you create theses things you must understand

who you are creating them for and

how your business, products, or services will help solve those people's problems

            Great Questions!

Niche marketing is just type of Internet marketing, that is identifying a niche that is profitable, researching the keywords that are profitable in that niche and creating/optimizing/promoting a website based upon those keyword.

Niche marketing usually refers to a more specific approach to marketing. It's a way to separate general and broad topics like 'making money', 'stock investing', to something more specific, 'making money online for women', or 'stock investing with your retirement fund'.

yes, they're all niches at the end of the day but imo the word makes me think more specific.

    Hi there,

Internet Marketing is a broad macro term and it can be generalize into two categories: Online Marketing & Niche Marketing.

Online marketing covers all the general products or services covered on your blog. Such blogs do not focus on any particular industry

Niche marketing covers all only specific industry related products or services with a highly specialized blog. Such blogs focus only on one particular industry.

I hope your doubt is clear now. Niche marketing is a subset of Internet marketing.

But you don't necessarily have to have a blog though do you?

My grandfather used to say that if you give a kid a hammer, suddenly everything looks like a nail.

Most of the folks here only have a 'hammer'...

Niche Marketing is a strategy to target a very specific part of a market where there is a demand and problems that need solving.

    Example:

    Internet Marketing is a market
Internet Marketing Training - is a niche market
Internet Marketing Videos For Newbies - is a sub-niche market

    Another example:

    Health is a big market
    Fitness is a niche market
Fitness for pregnant women is a sub-niche market

Generally people research a good niche market or sub niche market, find problems in that niche and offer solutions to those problems.

Then use different "internet marketing" strategies to be successful in that niche market like:
    Info-product creation
    List Building
    Blogging
    Social Marketing
    Setting up a sales funnel
    And much more.

I hope that clears it up for you a bit
