Dating sites: still worth it?

Kicking around getting back into IM (I do WCM for large companies now), and was thinking about doing a few dating sites.

I've done them in the past, but they were always on the back burner while I worked on my main projects.

Thoughts?

    Are people still dating?

The real question is: how are you going to attract users?

Why should they use your site instead of POF, eHarmony, etc.?

Like Jason said, you're in for some stiff competition so you better have an excellent game plan...

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

There is a lot of competition in the dating niche, ao if you want to succeed, you have to do something different+ interesting in the same time.

Not a bad idea, but that might require more capital and time than I'm willing to throw at it. I mean, if FB's mobile site works better than their apps, how can I make a good one on my own? LOL

LOL it appears that I've touched a nerve.

I'll try to reply to most everyone here:

        1) I didn't before, nor would I try to compete with the eHarmony and Matches of the world (I actually have a good friend that works at Match). As I did with the adult industry, I would focus on micro-niches that I feel either haven't been tapped yet, or are being underutilised.

        2) MMO sites have never been "worth it" IMO...I would rather be able to look myself in the mirror and still have some respect for myself at the end of the day.

Actually, I should start my own MMO site, but the difference is that if people executed my plan, they will actually make real money. As in, land a great-paying job with a large company (like I have on numerous occasions).

      Lol. your avatar checks out.

Anyway, there will be competition so you better have a massive action plan.

I'm still killing it with dating infoproducts, have been since 2004. Like any business you've got to know your numbers and be willing to invest some money for research, tracking your ad campaigns, and increasing your conversions.

The dating market has dozens of niches and there are plenty of ways to reach your target audience.

It's a highly competitive market, but it's also full of repeat and new buyers.

Thanks Rod, this is the type of answer that I was looking for. Glad that you're still doing well after all of these years, and I hope that you will have many more years of success.

    Too much competition
You will find it a lot of trouble to get traffic.
    All the best.

If you are looking to promote dating sites, good luck.

If you are looking to solve single peoples' emotional needs, get ready to make some serious money.

It's never been a better time to make money with dating. Just be clear about what you're actually doing.

Find a problem, solve it. Even when you are an affiliate.
