Online FREE marketing strategy to get hits to WP site

Recently started a new website.

Get just 20 - 30 hits a day.
Website is now a month old.

I write posts of more than 2000 words.
Long tail keywords are used.
Relevant keywords are used.

I post photos and videos in the post.
I also do Social Network marketing -
Using mainly FB.

I also do blog commenting.

But the hits I get are miserable.

Can anyone please tell me
Where I am going wrong?
And...
How do I get hits...
Using FREE marketing techniques?

Appreciate your inputs.
Thank you and regards.

Writing content on a new blog isn't a smart idea. Even if it's an epic piece of content, but a new site is a new site.. no readers. This is what I'll recommend: do guest posting if you can. Else, take your content to Medium and the Warrior Forum, promote your content on big platforms. You can link back to your blog to drive traffic.

Am confused with your reply? If I do not write content, I will have a blank website.
Also what do you mean by "Medium"????

Did you really mean to say this?

It goes against everything I know about Internet marketing. Great content on a new blog is very important.

When you are first starting out, you need content, yes. But you also need eyeballs.

The idea behind guest posting is putting your content in a place where those eyeballs are already gathered.

You do need to put good content on your blog, no question. But you should also be looking for opportunities to put your content on other peoples' blogs, in their email newsletters, etc.

When you're just starting out, you might want to put 20% of your content on your own blog and look to put the other 80% on other sites. You should also be looking at putting 20% of your effort into content and 80% into promoting that content.

As your blog and your traffic grows, you can adjust these ratios to put more content on your own site and reserve guest posting for higher profile opportunities. You'll still want to devote a significant portion of your time to promoting your content, though. There are a lot of sad stories about people losing a search ranking and their stream of visitors drying up.

          You may not believe it,
But when I sat down to write this post,
          I hoped you would reply.

I am not at all sure where I could do guest p[posting...
And who would come to my site..If they will...
          After I guest post.
          Any thoughts on that please?
Could you give me some suggestions on how to promote my blog?
          Would really appreciate your inputs.
          Thanks a lot again.

        Hi Steve.
I regret writing this to ask for help.
        Been getting some lousy answers...
Mostly by people who have no idea about IM.
They are just coming here and spamming.
Especially some lousy guy from India...
        Just 30 posts here
        And he started arguing.
Finally reported him to the mods.
These people are saying not to write content
        Amazing!

Ricardo, you just made my day!

First, I'm going to tell you where NOT to waste time with guest posts. That's any site that appears to accept anything submitted on any subject. Those are more likely to hurt you than help you.

I've found that the best way for someone with a new blog to find quality posting opportunities is to build relationships with bloggers who already have the audience you want, and one of the best ways to do that is with quality, meaningful comments. If you can generate real discussion in the comments on a post they made, they will notice. After you do that a few times on their blog, drop them an email formally introducing yourself and complimenting them on their resource. If you have a good idea for a post that will complement what they already do, ask if they would be interested in hearing it, If the answer is positive, describe what you have in mind and take it from there.

This works best with blogs that already have guest posts, since many bloggers want their blogs to be their content only. For those folks, if they have the audience you want, stick to commenting and adding links to your posts that add value to the post you're commenting on.

Offering your best posts to offline publications can be very helpful. Even if you don't get a flood of traffic from any particular publication, they do add up and they help build your brand.

Ignore the advice about keeping your posts short because no one is going to read a 2,000 word post anymore. Multiple studies have shown that posts in the 2,000 to 3,500 word length get the most likes, shares, comments and other engagement, which is what you want when building an audience.

            I already mentioned blog commenting.

Sharing your posts on social sites without spamming can help you build an audience fairly quickly.

" No one is going to let you guest blog sorry just will not happen.?
            Why not?
List building does not have to take years. What it takes is offering people something they want (both your lead magnet and ongoing content) in exchange for their email. Even if you never get more than a couple of thousand subscribers, you can reach out to them with your new content, and ask them to share. Nobody is solitary on the web anymore. Give people something worth sharing, and they will share it with people you could never reach any other way.

As for "no one is going to let you guest blog", he's talking through his hat. You might not start off with Huffington Post or CNN, but you could easily end up posting on a popular blog in a related, but not directly competitive, topic. For example, if I ran a fishing blog, and a relatively unknown personal trainer offered me a quality guest post on how to get ready for fishing tournaments, I'd jump on it.

When all is said and done, 'promoting your site' is just another way of saying 'spreading the word'. Keep your eyes and mind open to ways to bring your content to the attention of the people you want to attract, and keep on keeping on. As others have said, your new blog is just that, new.

No one is going to let you guest blog sorry just will not happen. Keep posting new content every day it takes time. You should be list building also. Don't forget to use YouTube do pod cast and content marketing. I myself have no seen any substantial numbers that content marketing converts. You need to network also this doesn't mean begging people to post on there blogs. You sound in need of a good marketing plan. You should do a press release as well. Do a very good write up for your site. Then of course we can express it with paid traffic.

The guest posting idea is good. Since blog is just one month old, it may take some time to build traffic. If you are already getting 20-30 visitors within a month, it is a start. You can build on from there by posting regular content on your own blog + also doing guest posting on high traffic blogs.

Try to start building an email list by offering free valuable report in exchange for people's email ids. The post length of 2000 words is good. Keep doing the good stuff as well as trying new stuff to see what works best for you.

One month is not a long time. 20 to 30 hits a day is not bad for a site which just turned one month.

      Hi Ben.
Yes my domain is also just a month old.
So, how long do you think this will take
      For me to get traffic?
      And how much?
      Thank you and regards.
PS - On one day, I got 168 hits and 3465 views...
Have no idea what happened here.

From Facebook alone you can get more people than that for free with just a little time. Try finding relevant Facebook groups and promote your posts there. Don't simply share a link to your post, use an catchy image and caption and add your link. Actually depending on your niche, you might want to use several pictures in each post.

From Facebook alone you can get 100 people on a single day, by targeting a few key groups. The downside is that you need to do it everyday to get daily traffic. But if you are building an email list it might be worth it. If you don't have enough time to post on Facebook groups you can always hire someone (or several people) to do it for you.

      Hi
Unfortunately what you say, is not at all true
As I have done a lot of FB marketing.
It does not happen like this
      Due to various parameters
If it did, I would not have asked for help here.
      Thanks anyway.

If you've not done it already, try submitting your site to places like blogcatalog.

Your overall inquiry seems to be more SEO related. Spend some time in the SEO forum.

You might need some different structuring going on, but hard to tell without seeing the site.

Traffic isn't going to happen overnight. Just keep writing. You can't expect results in a month.

I disagree with the poster above who said to not write great content. That is how you get links. Just keep doing what you're doing and give it time.

    One month is nothing.

Simple its about pre launch and connections. The main thing is you have to understand where your viewers are and go there. Most of all build relationships with the big fish. Find out what projects they are working on and offer to help. JV list building for your email list that is where your money is going to be. At first it will be a little spammy but after a while it will convert.

I wouldn't worry about back links some of them like gov and edu will actually hurt your blog more then help it. Don't do guest posting unless its a p1. Other sites that allow anyone to guest post will devalue web page. I have also found infographics to work well in social media mostly twitter and pentrest facebook seems to like videos and memmes. Even using all of this your not going to see very much results for about three months or so.

Hell Ricarodo, since your website is one month old. It need time to achieve traffic in full form. Meanwhile you can do guest posting on other high quality websites. Link back to your website.

Also if possible find out your competitors and see from which source they are getting major traffic. If it is social media then target social media ads or anything that will grow traffic. I hope you got what I'm trying to pointing. Following up your competitors path will be easier for your to achieve traffic for your website.

  • @LouisMcknight is right: If you wanted people to beat a path to your door from day one, you should have run a few pre-launch campaigns. Get the excitement built up with a couple of Coming Soon campaigns run in a proper fashion, and people would have come to you upon opening.

That's already passed, though, so instead you might now consider doing a relaunch. Or doing a big giveaway event. Or maybe a maybe a small free giveaway, such as an ebook or a piece of software.

The biggest thing going against you right now is domain age. Some of your competing sites could be 10+ years old, which is a huge factor in Google rankings.

Work on your site's SEO for 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, for 4 months, then come back to this thread and see if you still need help.

Is your site even listed in Google yet? Sometimes it takes a few weeks to even get listed.

What is your bounce rate? 20 visitors could be no more than search engine bots.

You say you've done a few things, but I see no mention of any intermediate or advanced ranking tactics being used. Are you still a newbie yourself? If so, are you even qualified (an authority) to write about MMO toics (assuming that is your topic, of course)?

It sounds like you're of the, "Build it and they will come" group. People saying just be patient and the visits will come - you're wrong, too. It's not happening. You need to be promoting your own content every day. Over and over. SEO, built slowly, will bring some visitors, but you don't want to depend on it solely.

To ramp up and get twice as much done, hire a cheap VA. (I'll get to my view on FREE ideas later)

Are you actually promoting content, or the home page of your site? Promoting your home page won't do you a bit of good. You have to promote the posts individually.

Long posts are great, if the readers like long posts, but are they quality articles? Are your posts interesting to your readers, or only to you?

You're trying to bring traffic to your blog, instead of offering up your blog as a solution in various places. That's what @LouisMcknight meant by, "... you have to understand where your viewers are and go there."

How many backlinks do you have compared to the NY Times or Brendan Bouchard? You're a small fish in a huge ocean full of sharks. 35 backlinks doesn't even get you in the top 10,000,000 results.

Have you tried syndicating your videos? How many views do they have?

Have you used social bookmarking and other Web 2.0 sites?

Have you tried creating a Hubpage to create backlinks?

Have you tried article marketing on quality sites?

Have you tried getting listed on a few quality directory sites?

This takes a lot of time doing it the free route, which brings me to my next point...

Who said FREE was the route to take? If you want instant results, FREE is not the way to go. Try ad.fly or something similar. Cheap as can be. If you're that poor, I'll paypal you a few bucks to get you started in paid advertising.

Put together a killer offer, sign up at 5 good JV Giveaways, and buy some cheap ad.fly views. Easy peasy.

If I charged you for this info, and you didn't get AT LEAST 100 subscribers on your list fast, I would refund your money. And if you think 100 subscribers isn't enough to make money, I'll have to give you my 'quality vs. quantity' speech.

Who will sit and read an entire 2,000 word post? Not many people. This may affect your bounce rate, so you may want to split those up.

Remember the keywords you are using are being sought after by others, as well. Just because you want them, doesn't mean you'll get them. Try to find out who ranks for those keywords, then figure out why.

Can you beat the people in the Top 20 and outrank them? What are your keywords search results? How many searches per month?

Do have something such as Yoast's plugin to handle your site's SEO in a proper fashion? Is it set up properly? Those can be factors if you're looking for traffic from strict SEO.

List building does *not* take years. In weeks or months and you can have a great list built. That would be another great discussion to start here on WF.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.
      Appreciate it.

Like others said, I think you are on the right track.
Unfortunately blog posting is time consuming and with over 100 million blogs out there now, SEO is getting ridiculously competitive.
However with social media posts, and hopefully finding a way to get comments on your blog things will move in the right direction.

You might want to look for some facebook groups where people comment on each others posts in reciprocity; That's pretty helpful and gives the search engines as well as readers the social proof they both like.

I think the question that should be asked, if it hasn't come up already, is how are you going to monetize the visitors when they finally do come?

Even with extremely basic 'SEO' (and I say that despite my hatred towards SEO) your blog will get more hits.

But the questions that appear to be left unanswered is what you're trying to do with them once they get there.

Is there a particular page or goal you want them to see or do - or is it more of a vanity thing about getting eyeballs on what you're writing?

Traffic, especially on this forum, is very overrated. Traffic by itself won't do a dang thing.

EDIT: Based on your continuous outlashing towards anayb, I think you should save yourself the money, and quit IM altogether. This niche/industry isn't for the faint of heart, nor is it for someone who will get as emotional you've gotten over a disagreement on the forum.

    TDLR: IM isn't for everyone.

The fasted easiest way to get traffic is to pay for it. Don't get so hooked on the idea of free traffic. If you have monetized your site (which you should have) get in some traffic then calculate the conversion rate etc. Test, test and then test some more.

Other than paid traffic build up followings on social media and push your stuff.

You've got a TON of great advice, but to drill it in....

It actually all depends on your niche and your marketing. If you're driving traffic that wants to know about your niche, then you should be finite! You sound like a rockstar and I'm assuming that you're putting out some quality content. Plus, if you put out content that people need to read, people will find it....just saying!

So just keep on keeping on and you'll be fine

I hope that helps and good luck!

Writing blog posts is just not enough. You have to promote them as well extensively on Social Media.

Do not just use only Facebook. Open accounts with Twitter, Linkedin, Google Plus, Pinterest, Instagram, Flickr, and other top-notch social networking websites to increase your reach.

Also it is better to opt for forum posting on top ranked sites like Warrior Forum, Digital Point, Nairaland, and more, rather than doing blog commenting.

Do tell me if you need more guidance.
