How do you prefer to learn?

I am just sitting here and going through a affiliate course and whilst taking a break I thought to myself lets pose a question for the warriors here...

How do you prefer to learn??

Reading??
Videos/Tutorials??
Audio??

Just crossed my mind really, personally I prefer Video's as my attention span seems to lower when it comes to reading!! Audios second off as you can put it onto your ipod and away you go!!

    Hi,

I prefer to learn by reading and looking at pictures and illustrations in my reading material.

I hate video and audio for learning. To me video and audio is for relaxation, entertainment and motivation.

One you left out is "by doing," My favorite way to learn is by doing.

Give me something to learn and give me the tools to do it and I'll learn it. If I must I'll refer back to the user manual. Which takes us back to reading.

I feel the same way.. I prefer reading to learn since videos and audios are my stress relievers.. I read different materials so that I would be able to get more info and when it's time to apply what I learn, I'm confident on what I am going to do but I am not afraid to commit mistakes cause it makes me learn more..

Someone posted a question like this a couple of weeks ago and I think most people here thought reading was better, it was a question on video/audio vs. ebook? and the majority said ebooks.
I have always learned better reading personally. That is why this forum has been such an amazing resource for me.

For me it has to be reading.

It has the advantage of letting you go at your own pace and I believe that this makes it much easier to follow and implement any advice given within the text.

Actually I would prefer the mixture of both Videos and Written Tuturials.
I remembered I joined a Video Tutorial a bout a few months ago, pretty much they seem easier to understand, especially when there are specific areas you need to look into. Just my opinion though.

I agree, video tutorials are much easier to follow but only if you want to completely go into the whole process, it will only become harder if you want to skip some process and look for the right tract the same as audio. Most people doesn't want to go in that way and skip most of the time like me. So in my opinion video is for the person who doesn't know or have little knowledge on what he was trying to learn.

I'm a big reader so written stuff is best for me, unless it's something where you need to actually be shown something to understand how it works. Audio books are also good when I have to get through a lot of information and there's quite a bit of fluff because I can crank it to 1.8 speed and get through it faster that way.

I prefer audio because I can speed it up with different software programs to listen to it in half the time!

It's all about speed! The faster the better, in most cases.

I also prefer video tutorials however I like to
refer back to a printed document if I have questions.
The audio narrative in some videos are hard to understand with
    certain heavy accents.

    Hi,

I much prefer to read because watch a video is so time consuming - when I am offered '30 videos', I'm off, because you have to watch the filler to find the good stuff.

With printed stuff (I print out most stuff that I buy) you can take it at your own pace, highlight the important bits to return to later and have it next to you as a reference.

Videos have a part to play, it's sometimes good to watch something in action but only if it's short and to the point.

But, for me - reading beats the others hands down!

    Regards

I totally agree with karen. You also need to be behind a computer to absorb what is being taught, which in my case I don't have all day since I have kids. Also it will be time consuming and more frustrating for those who have a day job in which they would need to sit down after a hectic day at work. That is why I prefer reading to watching videos.

    It's too non-specific of a question, really...

When it comes to the technical side of learning software or scripts, actual walkthrough video is incredibly helpful and far surpasses what can be learned from any written material, no matter how many screenshots are included.

However, video is "abused" by a lot of people who only have 5 minutes of real information to present, hidden in a 20-minute video. You'd have to pay me a lot of money to waste my time watching those.

For concepts and general tips, written text is usually best, but it's possible to be motivated by video and/or audio to actually DO something that the written word may not accomplish.

Personally, all my training videos are broken into 5 minute segments MAX with descriptive explanations of exactly what's included in each one. I don't have time to waste, and I go on the assumption my audience doesn't either.

I love to read PDFs! I often read ebooks on my old Nokia 6630. For anyone who has a Blackberry or Nokia smartphone, I really recommend using Mobipocket reader.

I prefer reading over anything else because you can easily make highlights, easily skim parts that you already know or easily reread a part that gets you thinking.

I guess it depends on what the topic is.

If it's a topic that shows a lot of examples or how to learn a specific software, then video is the way to go.

If it's a topic that's more about ideas and theories and include a step by step plan, then an ebook would work best.

If it's something that's more motivational, then I'd prefer an audio cd that I can play in the car.

I prefer reading, so I can refer to the manual at the same time as I am setting up stuff.

Also, it is much easier to go to a particular section of a book, than trying to find some specific information in a video presentation. It's rather like searching a disk versus searching for something on tape.

Being in the country with a Droid tethered to my computer for Internet access makes the choice simple. I prefer to read a pdf with illustrations or screenshots. Videos are not an option so if the sales page or the product is videos, I'm out.

It depends basically on the topic of the training.
If there is something technical to learn, videos can help a lot.
I usually prefer ebooks, because you can easily read as many times as you wish, because are easy to understand (sometimes speakers' accent is hard to understand). You can print them and read them where you prefer, too.

I don't like audio and videos, because are time-wasting in most of the cases.
Of course, there are straight to the point videos, but they are rare.

It all depends on which market/consumer/product you're targeting.

Fitness for example, can you imagine 1 hour fitness pump classes in a PDF? Me neither. Then we have on the oher side the example of a technical Design tutorial, and PDF's with images are great, if not the BEST way to explain these things.

In the end, it's the product/market that rules what channels you're using.

I prefer Videos/Tutorials since you can see how someone is actually doing something, after that reading is great. Not a fan of pure audio only. But like others have said it depends on what am trying to learn, sometimes video is preferable, sometimes text.

I'm always excited for educational books of any kind. Especially, the ones with screenshots, simple tutorials, step by step explanations. I don't know why I'm like that. Maybe it's because I can read faster than I can watch videos. Or, maybe it's because too many clueless marketers abused videos. However, I don't say an absolute no to videos. I can try if something really good is being offered.

Reading it is for me by far.

Videos and audio are too slow. With an e-book you can quickly scan over most of the content allowing you to skip stuff you already know well.

You can't do that with video or audio incase you miss something.

Also, I've found some people have voices I fall asleep listening to. If you're going to create an audio product you have to have passion in your voice.

It really depends on the subject matter. I'm extremely visual, so for certain things I prefer to view video and/or have pictures. And I like to have something written down so I could have something else to reference.

I'm not much of an auditory person so it's taken me a while to get used to learning via audio.

I love to learn through visuals with some type of audio in the background. It could be audio from the material or music, but I need something or it would be slightly difficult for me to retain the material. I really love reading long documents, taking lots of notes, and highlighting important sections, makes the document more colorful.

The best way for me to learn is WITH my outsourcer.

I pay $3 per hour for the outsourcer to work for me, do research, teach me and learn with me together. It's the best money I've ever spent.

I always treat them with respect even though they always call me "sir". They are my learning partners.

I use Skype to talk to them and Team Viewer for them to have remote access to my computer, so I can see what they are doing and they can show how things are done. The wonders of modern technology........ .

I can hear what's happening in their house too; roosters crow, baby crying, dogs barking, people chatting, children playing etc.

One outsoucer was like a brother to me. He had to quit to get married and work in the corporate world. I gave him $100 as his wedding present and he was really grateful. I believe US$100 can buy a lot more in Philippines. His salary was only $250 a month.

I am Chinese and I am privileged to live in a lucky country like Australia, so I try my best to look after those who are less fortunate than me.

Please be kind to your outsourcers. They live in 3rd world country and life can be tough.

Have a good day fellow warriors,
