How Do You Guys Create Software?

Hello there..

I'm just wondering how do you guys here create your own software.Do you need any programming basic such as a degree in software engineering? or is there any particular software that allows you to create another software? or do you guys hire a FREELANCER to create one for you?

I'm just curious to find it out.I've seen a lot MEMBERS here come out with their own and I'm wondering how they managed to do it!

Thanks.

I have many years of experience programming, even large projects.

That being said, I get onto LinkedIn or eLance and outsource it to the Phillipenes (specifically PH for several reasons).

Hmmmm... Let me guess, one of your reason you choose Philippines is because it is much cheaper to outsource people in the Philippines and the quality of work is good? Right?

I write programs and find that the biggest problem most clients have is they put insufficient work into their specifications. I can go to a client, spend however long is necessary with them to figure out what they want and get them to sign off on it, but most times they discover that they forgot to tell me something once the application is complete. Naturally, they need to pay more and wait longer for the "amendments" than should have been the case since sometimes it means changing what I have done, not just adding something new in.

So if you are getting something written, make sure you know exactly what you want to avoid later problems.

Phillipines is the best. I have several programmers that work for me - all from Phillipines. They can build you almost anything you would want - within reason.

Go to odesk, you can find some there.

I LOVE the Philippines for everything else (I got 3 people working from there). Programming hhhmmmm, I had 2 programmer work 100 hours each and they could not get it complete. My regular guy here (Canada) got it done in 15 hours.

I would suggest India for programming (Philippines for most other stuff)

I write my own software - turns out I really enjoy it, and allows me to keep the level of quality control that I need.

I was a programmer in another life, so to speak. Now, when i get inspiration for a new product, i've got several people i can call on that can produce if needed. I give milestones, framework ideas, and visual aids to assist in the production.

I write my own too. But get distracted sometimes. I think I have ADD. I have short focus span.

I have had a website that promote my friend software. Basically what I did was offering my friend some kind of partnership. he built the software and I built the site. My job is more tedious though but worth it in the end as I get 60%

I used to do some programming before I realised I wanted to work ON my online business rather than IN it. Outsource all of the work to countries such as the Phillipines or India. It will save you many hours and potentially a huge opportunity cost.

I used a freelancer from getacoder.com with success. The trick is to make sure you hire someone with a good track record and good feedback. It will cost more, but it's worth the extra.

I post my project in elance.com.

Though I know some basic level of programming, it is too time-consuming to do this work by myself as I still have to cover the other aspects.

Hence, I write the application specs and outource it out instead. Just take note that the pricing that you may get comes in a wide range. For the same job, I had people quoting $200 to $1500. So choose wisely.

    Just to share 2 experiences.

Someone quoted me $100 for a simple job and couldn't deliver. So in the end, I had to redo it myself in order to meet a launch date. I also had one whom I paid $1,000 to work on an existing script and he over-delivered. He is still supporting me FOC for the past 6 months. So be prepared.

By the way, you do not really need a degree to write application specs. However, you do need to know the following (at minimal):

    - what the application need to do
    - how the screen will look like
    - what you want as the output (and in what format)
    - the application logic requirement for your application
    - your acceptance criteria for the completed product
    - any documentation required (eg. how to install, how to configure)
    - ... any other things that are relevant

Btw, there are software that can help to create software (think it was called Make Your Own Software). However, it may not be meet all your needs. So look through first before you buy,

I've used several services and I've found oDesk.com to be the best. I had good experiences at GetACoder and Rent-A-Coder (?) etc., but my experience on oDesk was always consistently a home run. Good luck.

I have little to no programming training but I've used these 3 sites before to build scripts and desktop apps for myself and for sale.

ScriptLance.com Custom Freelance Programming. Outsource web projects to programmers and designers.
Rent A Coder: How Software Gets Done -- Home of the worlds' largest number of completed software projects
GetAFreelancer | Online Freelance Jobs | Employment | Design | Outsourcing | Programmers | Web Design | Freelancers

A lot of times I will just browse these sites to look at what types of software/scripts people are having built.

The quality and price that you get for software can vary greatly. Software design is based on an individual programmer's ability to problem solve. Just because you pay more for software does not mean that it will be better quality. If someone bids a high price on your project it may just be that they don't understand how to build it based on your requirements.

It's best to start with small projects and once you get a handle of the programmer's skill and communication ability, you can then move on to bigger projects.

Software products are my favorite types of products to create.

It looks like most of the people here outsource their software creation job to someone else and "reward" the creator with a profit sharing program..

How I wish I can learn some coding and create my own software and sell it...

    Anyway,thanks for the input guys..

No reason why you can't... Anyone can do it if they have the patience to learn.

I was programming for years...then finally went strictly to PHP...now I rarely code anything... Coding used to be fun for me but it no longer is.
