I've been trying to get some good reliable backlinks to my website posts. My website is in the beauty and health niche, and I've been focusing on social media promotion and blog commenting for now, but I know forum posting also makes a huge difference.
I signed up onto a few beauty forums recently, but I see very few active conversations.
I was assuming hundreds of conversations going on, where I could leave a few healthy comments, and once in a while, sneak in a link to my post, where many many people would view it.
Does anyone have a few recommendations for good forums in my niche?

Most of the forums does not allow you to add links within threads. however you can earn backlinks through forum signature link. You may also look for Guest posting on relative high authority sites.

enoziav, I got a suggestion for you...

If you are knowledgeable already in your niche why not just focus on those forums and get traffic back fom your answers. Most forums do allow signatures.

That's a tough nut to crack. Some Niches, even the huge ones, just do not have effective Forums available as far as making Forum Marketing feasible.

It's just a fact. You could keep searching or you may just want to concentrate your efforts in different areas.

    I'm inclined towards the latter

      This is a great point,

If this is true for your niche then forum posting can still work for your website

      but in a different way.

You might not get crazy amounts of traffic but the quality of traffic that you would get would be very high, and those people would refer you to other people they know.

By the time a user is at a beauty forum you know that person is very interested in the niche, and if you are there to help, then that person will gravitate to you and your site.

in this case, it is about quality over quantity

forum marketing is more about learning and networking with people more then it is about driving traffic.

if you are active in your niche forums, it is because you want to meet, learn form, and help other people in your niche that share the same interest.

what better way to remain a strong contributor to the people you want to serve?

use the forums as a way to learn and to just help one person at a time, without wanting anything in return,

This will pay off in the long term even if the "Stats" do not show it.

The best way to receive is to give

as long as those people can find your site in one way or the other then they will willingly go to it, and tell their friends about it.

while the forums might not be hyper active. you will still be hanging around your target audience, and you will get great ideas about what you can write about to continue helping people in your niche.

if you just want to help people, and your actions and words reflect that..

then you will be just fine.

you might not want to be forum posting every single day

but every now and then, with the clear intention that you are going in their to help one person solve a particular problem.

keep doing this and you generosity will pay off dividends

      Hope that helped

That used to be a common statement - but today most forums are 'no follow' which means dropping a link in a post or in a signature doesn't do much for you if allowed to begin with.

If may not be that you can't find good forums - it may be that active forums don't exist in that particular niche.

I suggest you analyze what exact problems people would be talking about on the sort of forum you are looking for. Would the topic be a set of symptoms (joint pain) or specific illness (diabetes) or a particular beauty problem (wrinkles)?

Try to come up with a list of questions your target market might have - then use google and bing to follow those questions and see what sites they lead to.

Exactly my point! Even if I do add a link back to my website in the signature area, it'll be to the main website and won't do a lot for me since I'd love to have links back to individual posts on my website and have them ranked in Google.

Also, do links from Hubpages and Ezinearticles hold any value?
