New Domain (when to build backlinks?)

What are your thoughts on when to start building backlinks to a new domain?
How aged should it be before you start?

No offence but you've been a member for 5 odd years and don't know that there is an SEO Forum for these questions? Search Engine Optimization

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

I believe you should start getting backlinks as soon as your website is live. Yes the domain age will play a role in SEO but the sooner you get backlinks the better. So when I start with a new domain name, I start getting backlinks once I launch the website. No point in waiting for the perfect date to get links. Just get them as soon as you can since they will help you rank no matter how old or new is your domain name.

    • Start your research and accruing some backlinks each week. Be careful though. Don't start paying for a bunch of links and expect it to help you right away - Google will penalize you.

Not sure your niche, but start out getting as many social media accounts registered to your name too.

We get asked this a bit. It depends on quantity and what you're building and what you've built before.

You'll want a decent amount of indexed articles & pages, a few social shares, a few social profiles, a few people commenting on your blog, your xml sitemap, maybe a guest post after a month. 2-3 months is usually what we see best results from with our own (usually low-medium competition) sites.

It's more about links being built consistently and slowly at first and then when it has some authority to improve on that with quality links. The point is to build naturally and slowly if this is a site you want long term.
