How do I put an ad rotator in a pdf file?

So that I could just change the banner and text link inside of a web folder and load a different ad in the pdf ebook.

Thank you,
John

An ad rotator is a web page function. The code to make it work can only be viewed in web pages, i.e. online.

Though a PDF can be viewed in a browser, it is a document that is designed to be downloaded onto a computer. It does not function as a web page.

If you wish your readers to see a rotating ad, place a link in your document to a landing page with additional content.

If I understand you correctly, you're saying you want a clickable link inside the PDF that you can change where it points to?

If that's the case, you can buy a domain name and use a redirect.

So, if your PDF is about social media marketing, you can buy a domain called "socialmarketingworld.com" or something to that effect.

In your PDF report, you can put socialmarketingworld.com (or a sub-domain of it, like report.socialmarketingworld.com) as the clickable link / hyperlink.

In your domain name control panel you can choose to forward that domain or sub-domain to any url you choose.

So if you decide you want to forward that domain to another page, just go to your control panel and change where it redirects to.

I've done this before with domains I bought from namecheap.com

    Thank you guys/gals...

Very kind of you to reply.

However, those solutions are rather basic to me.

The reason is that if the customer was reading an eBook on say "raising chickens for profit" and I had an affiliate link going to a text or banner link for that product and it would become unavailable, I would have an eBook floating around the internet doing me no good.

But... If I could change the link to another same type product or similar product, (inside the eBook) say... "raising turkeys for profit", I could just change what was inside the folder that the pdf link pointed to.

    Am I making since?

    Thanks,
    J

Thought for sure there would be a script or al least a plugin to do this, If not, maybe I'll just have to figure out a way to code one

      Use a link shortener.

      1. Put your affiliate link in the link shortener (that you can control)
      2. Put shortened link in PDF
      3. If affiliate link goes bad, go to url shortener service and replace with new affiliate product

I hope this solves your problem You'll also then be able to track click through on a given report.

Just use a tracking link service like Clickmagick. Or as mentioned above, a shortener.

Same principle, use a link that you can control externally. That way if you want to change the destination of that URL, you can

Yes... all of the methods above will work.

    Thank you...

I guess exactly what I was hoping for is not available.

What I specifically wanted is for the pdf (if there was an
available internet connection) to call out and load whatever
banner or text link code that I had in a folder on one of
    my servers.

Thank you all very, very much anyway,

    Just thinking...

Haven't we all seen those little utility programs that get passed around free because the owner has his banner at the bottom of it. Those banners change from time to time. I know they do because I'm seen them do it.

That's what I am talking about
