What Would be a Good Price for a Logo Company

I am a professional logo designer and want to start my own logo design company. I am wondering how much I should charge for logos and how I would be able to offer several different packages? Any positive input would be helpful.

Thanks,
Matt

    Well since you've mentioned pricing.

I can get a somewhat decent logo on Fiverr for about $5

and I can get a really nice logo done on 99 Designs, Upwork, or Freelancer for about $50

Why should I hire you instead?

If you're already a "professional logo designer" can't you just continue charging what you do now, or up your pricing? How are you this lost on pricing? After all, you said that you were a professional in this field of work...

Also, I don't think I've ever heard someone use the term "Logo Design Company" before. Probably because there's no way to make a reasonable amount of income by only doing logos. usually you'd have to revert to "Graphic Designer" because you need additional services and offerings to upsell, like: business cards, flyers, t-shirts, brochures, digital web banners, etc...to actually make money.

I'm not a fan of graphic design services because there's really no opportunity for recurring income or long-term clients. Someone gets a logo or some kind of graphic design, and that's it, they don't need you after that. So you're caught in a loop of always hustling to get new business.

I'm curious to see what some other Warriors think, but I think starting a "Logo Design Company" is a bad idea. Unless you have some kind of secret weapon (USP) that will differentiate you from the sea of other freelance graphic designers.

Thank you for your reply. I already charge $350 for my logos as a freelance designer. The way I look at Fiverr is you spend $5 for a logo of $5 quality.

Thank you for your reply. I charge $350 right now as a freelance designer and just wanted to confirm my pricing. I agree with you on Fiverr. If you spend $5 on a logo you will get a logo of $5 quality.

I think freelancer is the good place to hire a logo designer and you can hire his services in cheap prices.

It depends on how you position yourself in the market. As other said, if you're on the low end of the market you're competing with guys that make logos for $5.

But if you can position yourself on the high end of the market you can charge at least $100 for the same logo.

How to position yourself in the high end? Stay away from Fiverr

Get solid testimonials from reputable companies, that alone can boost your expertise.

About different packages, you can offer just 1 logo with one revision for example on your cheaper logo, and multiple concepts and more revisions on your a complete packages.

I wouldn't do logos for under $350. As for packages, when I freelanced, I would offer stationery and business card along with the logo for more money or logo plus brochure for extra. My brochures started at $300 and stationery and business card started at $200.

People who get logos at places like fiverr aren't really looking for quality, professional work. What they get is not much more than altered clipart.

Of course, the more professional you work, the higher you can charge your client. The more satisfied your client is, the higher the payment you get. Upwork has a lot of talented graphic designers that offers varying prices. Deals there are made along with the negotiation of the price; payment can be hourly or fixed. You can get a decent design at 99design at $400. At Cheap Logo Design UK | MRLogodesign.co.uk , they charge clients with a reasonable and affordable price starting from £30. While at Logo Design | Professional logo design UK , you can get designs at £60.

As with any type of creative work it all depends on quality on your work and the type of client that you sell to. The prices of logos can range anywhere from $5(as mentioned above) to over $1000, again depending on your clientele and your creative work. With that being said, if you feel like your work is of magnificent quality that you should target big businesses or businesses with a that appreciates quality.

I agree with what others have said.

I add this. If you want to get a good price for your logos, you absolutely must have a quality web site: quality not only in design but also in content.

Your website should show right away that you're not playing in the same league as those who make cheap logos.

OK this is really about the subject of Pricing, one which people know very little about.

Nearly all Pricing determination is fiction.

You start out, and want to know what you should charge. So you ask people. They give you numbers. Where did those numbers come from? Fiction. What basis do they have in reality? None.

You look around at other designers. OK, here's an experienced lady charging $300...another charging $155 who says he has two years of experience, and a startup designer similar to your position who bills $60.

What should you do? Average them? $175? Where did this number come from, really? Fiction, again!

So maybe you think, huh, a typical work week is 40 hours. My bills--rent, car, insurance, food, etc. are around $3000/month...I'll divide that 3000/(40x4) = $18.75/hour...let's see...design should take me like 4 hours generously...that makes my price $75.

Wallah! Fiction! Totally made up! (And not enough, either. You'll go broke this way, because unexpected expenses, taxes, and profit are not built into your number...plus there's no way you're going to be able to bill a full 40 hours a week.)

The only reliable way to set your pricing is this:

Start with the total revenue you want to make.

Include planned expenses, unexpected expenses, taxes, and profit. Yes, build profit right in. People treat profit like a phantom: "Someday, Timmee...someday we'll see profit..." with longing gazes into the middle distance. Build the damn thing right into your money equation and be done with it.

Now divide that figure by the number of projects you conservatively expect to get in the month.

    There's your price.

And this is a wonderful pre-qualifier.

You can sell a website for $200 or $200,000. What market does the $200K one sell to?

Of course, you have to have the skill to back this price up. If you don't...what are you doing in this business?

More detail about this sensible, non-fiction approach to Pricing here.

If the number you come up with scares you, good. That's reality. Anything less means you'll be slowly drowning...month after month you'll eat up your savings and get further into debt, until you have to go crawling back to a job.

If you're scared because you don't think you're worth it, go do something else.

If you think people won't pay, that's your limiting belief talking. There are people out there who WON'T pay $5 for a logo (like me) because they know it'll be crap. That thing represents me. I want it to be good. And a price of say $100+ lets me know the designer trusts their own ability.

    YOU ARE NOT YOUR CUSTOMER.
