Get ready for April 4, 2016 and the Udemy price cap. Folks, this is a whole new game. Sadly, this change will affect all our UDEMY courses. Hey, they are setting up a $20 - $50 price range. Also, there is a max 50% reduction Udemy price cap. Yeah, that means no more $299 courses reduced to $9 any more. Oh yes, we did say nine. Wonder what that will do to our sales as $20 is a lot to pay. Trust me, they have a lot of less than stellar courses. Dare we say poor even.

A lot of people are going to loathe this new pricing practice. But I love it.

As a Udemy instructor (with a 4.83 rating out of 5) I love this move.

Too many gurus saturating the marketplace with overpriced courses.

Now, we can compete on quality. Makes it easier for us without the guru reputation, but still love to teach.

I'm also going to be promoting Udemy courses as an affiliate like crazy now.

No more promoting overhyped courses. Now, I can consistently and reliably promote courses that I think don't suck, without trying to bamboozle someone out of $300.

    Overall, I'm very impressed.

Agile development, and building block approach for the unbridled victory.

To me is quite simple, who offers perceived value will leave , becuase from the $50 with luck ...a lot of it you will get $20 , so for premium courses i dont see any instructor wiling to get only $10-$20 net. So to me there are 2 options:

      1) leave the platform.
      2) split. The course into sub-courses to get the amount of money you get before.

So they are doing what so many other online platforms have...

Step#1 Let people do anything they want to build your user base.

Step #2 At some point, change the rules and drive away all the people who built the site for you.

    Nothing new here.

As with anything, teacher-wise, it's what you're clear on.

Looked at Udemy as a course option a few months back. Didn't move on it.

Checked in a few weeks back. Saw the price cap. Realized that I probably shouldn't lower the price of my 1000 dollar blogging course to 50, just to move from Selz to Udemy, then I let it go.

As a rule, 99.999% of folks who crave a course will pay top dollar for it. Which means, unless you're clear on working like a champion to published something for 50 smackers, you're better off moving courses to platforms where you can charge 500 or 1K.

Know your worth. Or, know that there are oodles of hungry folks out there with means.

I think Udemy is doing A-OK as are the instructors. Just not a match for me.

Happy prospering to all the rocking teachers out there.

OK, Ryan, I thought I had my head on straight with this issue, but now you confuse me.

I've created lots of courses, but truthfully, I like to stay low end. I'm always looking to build my business with newcomers who need to meet threshold, and I don't think too many first-timers are coming in at over $50.

In fact, one of the things I tell people quite often tell people on my coaching sales pages is that they don't need information... there's way too much of that floating around. What they need is actual assistance to implement the info we're swimming in.

So I like to have low-end courses to bring in new people, and then give them high-end offers deeper into the funnel. But those high-end things are typically coaching and services, not video trainings (which most of my products are).

So I was all in with the Udemy price cap (disclaimer... I don't use Udemy) until I read what you said about keeping in touch with your value.

Gives me pause for thought, my friend... maybe I have to be more in touch with my inner high-endedness.... (what?)

Thanks Ryan... food for thought for me.
