MailChimp wants to plaster my home address on each e-mail I send. Is this standard practice?

I just signed-up for MailChimp and quickly realized that my home address would be given to each user that signs up for my newsletter... and that it must appear on the bottom of each e-mail I send.

Is this standard practice these days? Are there any other free e-mail services that don't require this? (Does Aweber require it?) I've heard good things about MailChimp, but blasting out my home address to the world is quite unappealing. Know of any workarounds?

    It's required.

    Yes.

    Rent a P.O. Box.

Tell recipients where you’re located. Your message must include your valid physical postal address. This can be your current street address, a post office box you’ve registered with the U.S. Postal Service, or a private mailbox you’ve registered with a commercial mail receiving agency established under Postal Service regulations.

Yes, this is part of CAN-SPAM.

As Brent said, get a PO box. If you have a business, you shouldn't be using your home address anyway.

I think a retail mailing service gives you the appearance of a physical address than a P.O box doesn't,,,Just my 2 cents,

Know of any inexpensive ones? The first one I looked at was $99/month.

All mailbox service costs vary by location. You will have to look for yourself what is available in your local area. Many post offices have a street address option now, but you will have to check with your local office to see if it's available there. PO Boxes are usually cheaper than other options. UPS is popular as well but each location will have a different cost so you will have to call if they don't list prices online.

          I use a UPS Store. It's about $15 a month. I pay annually.

I actually use the address from one of my cabins. I lived there year-round until recently and never had any kind of issue.

Of course it's remote and hard to find even with the address.

You can try www.viabox.com if you need a physical address. It's a great option instead of using your own address and you don't limit yourself because they will accept packages/mail from any carrier.

Think you just delete the mailchimp shortcode that appears in "translate it" in the "address" box which appears in the left column of boxes opposite "Address" under "Default english translation"
