Options for publishing eBooks

I never got around to really reading some internet marketing books that I had that were published in around 2010 or 2011-ish period. Right now I plan to publish a book on Learning Chinese, of course I looked into the keyword under "learn chinese" through google niche and it still gets a healthy 70 to 90 scores so I thought this would be a good market.

With Kindle around, it seems like a good deal marketing there. I thought that it is a good platform to publish it instead of making a website with a single sales page.

I am uncomfortable with the sales page method method since I dislike sales page methods myself with annoying pop ups and opt in. Does anyone even look into sales page now in 2016?

Sorry for being naive but I thought this method seemed to arouse more skepticism with all the current claims, millionaire club get rich quick pop ups that instilled negative perceptions about pop up sales pages and one would rather look for real published books where it has actually been checked on instead on bookstores like amazon or kindle.

One exception is the Shaun T program, Insanity beach body workout sales page. I just admired his sales page and his rep that he built which is much more credible than others.

I may be wrong but I think Kindle has a big market for new authors that is easily accessible but still considering a website for at least an authors page for future/current work to display my products. Confused...

Anyone with experience has any comments or thoughts between sales page and kindle/amazon publishing?

Books on the Kindle store can sell well but you also need to be good at promoting them to get the initial momentum as Amazon will recommend your book more to browsers if people are already buying it on the Kindle store.

Amazon certainly has the trust factor there and the convenience of promotion, so that's something worthwhile.

However, if you think you can drive traffic and/or recruit affiliates for your book, it's always a viable option to have your book on your own sales page.

I'm not sure if it will be easy to find affiliates for a "Learning Chinese" product though, so if I were you I'd personally go with publishing it on Amazon.

Take careful consideration with what you're doing, and remember that there are people who've done well with either of those 2 options.

    Regards,

It seems like learning Chinese is going to be a pretty involved process and I would think a video or audio course might be a good idea.

The reason I say that is because of all the nuance involved with pronunciation my be difficult to get across in writing whereas in an audio or video you can just pronounce it.

If you are dead set to write a book, maybe you should consider writing a print book using Amazon's CreateSpace. I'm just thinking that learning Chinese is going to finish out at over 200-pages (I would think) and that would be plenty for a print book.

If you think the perception of sales pages is bad, you should see what a lot of people think of self-published Kindle books from unknown authors. The Kindle gold rush added so much crap that people are skeptical of everything.

For something like learning a language, having a book on Kindle could be a good lead generator for a more extensive course. Especially a language that depends so heavily on intonation for meaning. I tried a couple of lessons I found for free online, and found examples where the same words with different tones and inflections meant entirely different things.

If I were going to tackle something like this, I would offer a book about "how" to learn the language and save the actual language lessons for a more audio based venue.

Thanks for you replies guys, my initial plan was also to make a how to learn the language in a book and the pronunciation in an audio or video format like JohnMcCabe and DeadRooster. If I remembered correctly Kindle allows you to sell eBooks and audiobooks together as a bundle so this option is still viable.

I'd say I am leaning more towards Kindle as it is easier, more reputable and well known company instead of having to drive the traffic myself. About an authors page or a website maybe for present/future work, I am still unsure...
