Protect Your Download Page NOW!

hey guys

i still see many people who sell info product, that dont protect their download page.

and up until recently, i didn't protect the download pages for some of my previous products.

Here's How To Add a Password Proected Page for FREE!

You may already know this, but here is a free way to protect your download page with a password.

Step 1 - log into yoru Cpanel.

Click on where it says 'Security'

Then it will show all the directories you have on your server.

Click the directory you want to password protect, it will then ask you to create a username and password.

Hit 'OK' and thats it!

you will now be asked to enter a username and password when accessing the download page of your site.

This is a simple FREE way to protect the download area of your website.

By not doing this, you risk having your products given away for free all over the net, which is what has happened with some of my previous ebook.

Hope this helped

thanks

Jani

True, but make the password very unique and create a Google Alert for it. Then, at least, you'll know the source of some of the sharing.

Alternatively, just use something like DLGuard (or, for a cheaper option, I believe BigMike sells a report on DIY download protection).

      Regards,
      Tommy.

P.S. - Personally, I'd prefer, in addition to download-page protection, something that would brand every downloaded copy with the order details of the person who bought it (NOT their CC number but, rather, their name, e-mail, IP, etc.). People are less likely to circulate something that specifically identifies them as a pirate. I've never seen anything that actually does this though.

You send them the password via autoresponder after purchase.

This will actually piss off a lot of people by making them opt-in to get their purchase. If you are using PayPal for your payments, send me a PM with your email address and I'll give you a copy of my PayPal download protection manager.

Actually if you use PayPal... from what I heard, they are very unhappy about this practice.

Is there a need for an unobtrusive, inexpensive d/l protection script? D/L guard is a great product, but it is a bit pricey for new marketers.

I may be able to fill that need. The people who test it and give me requirements will get it free!

It seems like a pretty simple problem to solve.

We can create a cookie protected membership area, and email a key with a user configurable number of uses/date limit which redirects to the sales on expiration. Your assets can be uploaded thru the script, which will make everything hidden. I guess the key can be passed thru PayPal or however you collect payment.

I recently got an unsolicited link in my email to an expensive product which was simply left in a public directory! I didn't download it, but it bothered me that someone who put so much effort into a product would simply leave it in the open to be indexed by Google.

Take a look at bookguardpro. Not expensive and it works great.

Good tip, i've seen too many download pages that could easily be shared on any forum out there. I'll be sure to use this.

    Okay,

Thomas idea about having all their data open is really good.

Or everybody could just use ejunkie the free version.

Guys - this is a really lousy way to protect a download page. Seriously, for something as simple as an ebook just get DLGuard. Your links can then NEVER be shared in any useful way. Passwords to a directory can easily be shared.

Besides, Sam's software has so many other amazing features (coupons, etc). You are missing out if you don't use it or something comparable.

    Hi Mate,

This method does not stop people giving your product away
all over the internet. This will protect your download...but
when they have your files...they can then share it.

There is only 1 method I know of that will prevent people
sharing your product...and that is watermarking. Basically
your product is marked with unique data so the loser that
shared your stuff can be identified.

And a watermarked ebook is less likely to be shared...especially
if it has the original purchasers details stamped all over it

    Take care,

    Michael Silvester

Thanks for the advice, although like others have said it does not stop sharing.

I've had download pages shared and lost potentially about $7,000 before I sorted the problem by using Nanacast and limiting the accessability to prevent sharing as much as possible without punishing the purchaser.

  • You can use simple php in clickbank to not only protect yourself from people spreading the password but banning those that come to the same account from too many ip's.

FlashMatrix and anyone else that has asked for a copy.

I decided to go ahead and start giving away my PayPal download manager script. Just give me a little time and I'll get the download page setup and let everyone know where to download it.
