Made over $3500 this weekend! Ebook launch

I know many people make a lot more than me but I just launched a new ebook this weekend and am happy to announce I made over $3500 over the weekend.

Just an average guy who built a following over the past couple years sharing one of my passions which is health/weight loss after getting some amazing results. I just emailed my list, shared on Facebook, Instagram, twitter and did a youtube video of the ebook. Offering a discount price and bundle savings with my recipe guide also seemed to help. I don't worry about perfect copyrighting or sales techniques. No paid ads.

For me it's about sharing knowledge, slowly building a following of engaged followers, and over time people know, like and trust you enough that they want to support you.

The ebook is hosted on leanpub anybody use that platform?

I show the results in youtube videos and also do monthly income reports.

Hope it helps!

So in actuality it took you a couple of years of work to collect, no?

I'm up to $1600 a month now this is on top of that. It's a slow build I show my income reports each month. Definitely not a get rich quick scheme if you're looking for that

Cool !! And thanks for sharing

Of course it would add to the Community that much more if you added the particulars/steps you utilized with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.. to get this Income.

        Hey Will,
Fwiw, that link in your Sig is not working as I just tried it

Anyway, I assume your using Fan Pages and also are you using their ad platform and doing any PPE to get more of an audience ??
Also do you have a home site/blog ? It sounds like you are solely using these other outlets to build a List, which sounds like it is effective for you. And skipping the Website variable ??

I don't use ads. I have a facebook page, instagram account, YouTube, and an email list of about 2300 people so far. My suggestion is to build a following first, see if you have traction and interest. Build trust, offer something of value (I do recipes and weight loss/nutrition advice), then over time offer things for sale.

For the weekend sales I offered a sale on the initial launch of the new ebook and a bundle sale price to buy 2 ebooks together. People definitely like sales and I have built up a group of people who like my content.

I have a website. It's crucial to collect emails from there giving away something for free.

He's not answering any questions about his strategy. Sounds like this was just a big "look at me" thread, possibly to also get people to click his links.

I didn't see the one question, maybe he edited his post or I didn't get the notification. I've answered it now. I just posted this to inspire and help other people. I imagine a lot of people have signatures in the posts it's not like I'm the only one.

    Give that contestant a cigar!

In fairness though, they are easy to spot after you've seen hundreds.

I like the way they all think it's a new idea.

What strategies would you suggest not just for sales, but for getting readers to leave positive reviews as soon after launch as possible?

      • Profile picture of the author wkriski
I didn't ask for reviews or anything but on Amazon I got a lot of great reviews from people without asking. I think it's because of the good will I developed over the past 2year helping people with free recipes, and health/weight loss advice. All my recipes are free so people were making them and loving them before I started to sell it.

I get testimonials sent to me without asking but I'm going to ask for more so I can put them on the ebook sales pages.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. I love helping and sharing this information. I tried really hard in the guitar lesson niche before and while getting lots of youtube views I had trouble monetizing it so I got pretty depressed and discouraged.

Good start - building organic audience from scratch is tough, but will pay off if you continue to build engagement and value, 2000+ is a good base to start from.

Now that you have proven out your sales front-end, you can approach affiliates/partners that can triple or 4X those sales if you go after them aggressively.

Would also be good to start putting some of that initial money into ads (likely FB or Instagram to start) so you can begin working on a campaign that converts

Finally, determining a second-tier product beyond ebook to give upsell opportunities would also be a very positive move so that you can make everything more profitable and have more opportunities for partnerships as well as advertising

Fact that you are doing this with your own ebook is powerful - not many people get past the "wishing" or "dismissal" stage - so congrats!

Hey Jeff! I remember talking to you years ago and you helped me with my guitar lesson site, sales pages, etc. For some reason the food/diet niche is working much better. Thanks for your input I'm thinking a video course, more ebooks for starters and possible membership site although that would be more day to day involvement.

You're right consistency and patience is key, build that following first then the opportunities come.

Great to hear the recent success of all your hard work Will!

When you first started out and had no list...what type of content were you sharing on social sites like InstaGram & Twitter in order to get attention/traction?

I assume on both platforms, (twitter/instgram) you were "following" users who were somewhat in your niche, right?

Would you always follow someone who found you and started following you first or were you a bit more selective in who you followed?

How many posts per day were you submitting and is there a certain # of posts per day that we should follow so to not look too spammy?

Once you started getting a pretty good following on Twitter/Instagram, were you using any type of call to action in the posts/images and if so, where was the traffic going? Youtube video? Website/Blog?

Congratulations again on your success! As it's been said, there's only one place to go from here and that's UP!

I started sharing food pictures (what I ate and links to my recipes) on my facebook page, friends and family didn't care so i started a separate page. Then a youtube channel. I started commenting on other people's channels/pages as that user (potato strong) not myself.

People really like food/diets for one which I didn't realize how much until I got into it. They really like my simple tasty recipes that are easy to make. They like my calm, shy demeanor which is surprising for youtube.

I post 2 or 3 pics per day for each meal not usually breakfast. It's not really spammy as I had nothing to sell for quite some time. All my recipes are free. So I built up a following that liked my recipes. I also post funny pics in that niche.

Then I eventually offered an ebook which was all my recipes in one PDF for tablet/printing even though the recipes are free.

I started an email list and put a form in the sidebar and offered a free quick start guide to get signups.

In instagram I used to keep changing the links for each pic (to a recipe) then I changed it to my recipe book link (in my profile). I rarely link directly to my book or mention it. On my website I use 'what would seth godin do' to suggest people buy the guide, depending on if it's their first visit.

I neglected email most of the time and kept deleting people to keep it under 2000 (free) but now I'm paying so I can build up the list much bigger. Hope that helps!
