Travel blog with 0 money earned please help

Hi everyone,

I own an italian travel blog (like Holidaypirates or Holidayguru) meant to earn money with affiliate marketing and sponsored posts but I have some major problems.

1) the site is quite old (2009) but it was poorly managed for years and Google says it's a "low value content" one if I try some adwords advertising (They say we don't provide high value content since we simply post offers from someone else). Did anyone had the same problem?

2) I currently have 12.500 fans on my page but about 10.000 are very old and not engaged so my average reach is about 200/250 (even if i reached about 2500 with a couple of posts )

3) given points 1 and 2 I have about 150 unique visitors per day that drop to 50 if I don't post anything new on Fb and Instagram daily.

I'm using Fb ads but with Limited budget (5 $ / day) I can't expect much, my community is growing good on instagram (10 new followers daily for free) but of course without Google I'm not going anywhere

I am thinking about starting everything from zero (new domain, new social profiles), because if Google does nt like my site I have no chance of growing traffic since my budget for this site is only 300 $ / month

The site is www.viaggifacili.com

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm sorry to hear about your site

What it sounds like you need to do is to start engaging your social media following with several posts per day of pure content with a call to action (ex. share if you agree, or click like if you agree). This should help get your followers more engaged.

As for the actual site, you need to start posting good, quality content. This will help you boost your content rating with the Google and bring your site back to life….that and people will start popping back in to check out the content you're providing.

And to take it even farther….you can boost your seo a little by linking your content posts on your website back to your Facebook posts…nothing like a little Google juice to boost up your website rankings

I hope that helps and good luck!

      Hi Matt,

thank you for your advices. Do you mean putting links on my website to Facebook posts?

Like... at the end of my blog post I could add a link like this "click here to discuss this offer on Facebook" linked to that post's Facebook post?

      Thanks!

    Hi Firestart! Bongiorno!

No need to start over again. Site longevity is enviable, terrific, creates confidence, and increases the site's overall value. You can hire a Warrior here on the forum to do all the work below to save yourself the time and effort, and turn your site around in less than a week.

I grew up on the Cote d'Azur and spent a fair amount of time across the border in Italy.

    1. You are selling to Italians but there is no excitement on your pages. Even the About page is short and boring. I recommend you change Chi Siamo to Chi Sono Io. What is your travel experience? Why do you enjoy traveling? Why do you enjoy sharing your thoughts on travel? What are some of your favorite things about traveling? Favorite places to go? Places you wish you could go? Places you are planning to go? What's your favorite car to travel in? What are your favorite foods from what countries?

These are all things you can build post around, but give hints to on your About page.

    2. Your home page is boring as well. It says absolutely nothing about the site, how it benefits viewers, what makes your site special and exciting.

    3. Your main images are large for no reason and do not have Alternate Text (see below), which those little search bots love. See bella, you are writing to two audiences: your viewers first and the bots second.

To Your Viewers: Let me see your hands fly as you describe what you are offering, let me see that Italian vigor and passion, give me a reason to want to come back and hear more! Tell me why I should sign up for emails from you? What are you offering me?

Jump start your offers - where are all the products travelers need? You can wait and wait and wait for people to sign up for hotels, car rentals, and travel tickets, so you need to offer impulse buys like dark glasses, suitcases, makeup cases, backpacks, hiking shoes, cool scarves and jackets, high ticket items like jewelry, and so forth. Write posts about the products, sell them in your emails. All that hotel and ticket and tour stuff is merely a come-on unless you can blast out with blow-your-mind specials. SELL THE PERIPHERALS and promote them with Italian flare.

I need some eye candy - Illustrated flowers, a cool background, a design that appeals to ladies because those are your buyers. Men look for business or hunting/fishing travel deals, women look for vacation, romance, and fun.

To the Search Engine bots: Tell the bots in plain English what you are telling your viewers. Bots are raging questioners on speed. They want to make seekers happy. What are your viewers looking for and how are you fulfilling their quests? Search bots want to know.

Bot lingo: I find HTML Goodies (use to be HTML Goodies to Go) to be the very best site for simple explanations and a great source for copy and paste code and scripts and whatever else you need:

    1. Easy fix: Alternate text (alt) attached to your images tells the bots what the image is about and how it pertains to your content which answers their customers' searches.

    2. Easy fix: Your META tags are deadly silent. You at least need the basic tags, DESCRIPTION and KEYWORD. Search bots read those 2 meta tags to this day, regardless of where they are moved in the hierarchy of the algorithm. The DESCRIPTION tag should match the headline of your post or article. Go here for more: META COMMANDS

Follow one or more of these, every day, without fail, even if it's only for a few minutes:

Ciao e buona fortuna, mia amica! Be persistent, study, apply, and you will do just fine.

      Ciao Annie,

thank you for your long and rich anwer!

I'll try to write in a more personal way, and to turn my site in a more appealing one (more personal, less business-like, right?)

Your technical tips are useful too and I'll start inserting alt and title to images, and meta keywords and description.

About large images in the blog, I upload them in a big size in order to let Facebook show them as large images when I share the link. Is there any other way to do that using smaller (and lighter) pics?

How much traffic is your site getting?
Are you advertising it anywhere at all?

Just about 150 unique visitors daily. I'm currently only advertising it on Facebook with "post interaction" but with very little money (20/30 $ per week)

Your site seems to be good with high potential.

Please change your site to English, keep posting content every 1-2 days, and promote the posted content all over Social Media for free.

The above three steps should do the job.

You might want to diversify your traffic sources. It's quite possible that you find out visitors from a specific referral or from search engines convert better than the visitors you're getting from Facebook.

When you have no earnings you have a huge problem on your traffic quality, on your offer, or on both.

Yes I'm trying, I'm getting a good amount from Instagram, while Google is extremely low but I'm doing lot of SEO to improve that... any other hint would be great

If you optimize your google plus posts you might get a lot of traffic from there too. Identify the keywords you want to target (buyer keywords - what will people look for when the are ready to book a holiday) and put these exact keywords in google plus post headlines.

Because even if your site doesn't rank for the keywords, the google plus post may rank, and may rank on first page. I don't know about competition, but I rank a lot of google plus posts on the first page of google search results.

I am not sure instagram followers will be a buying crowd, or if they just follow for the nice pictures.

I'd definitely add a blog to your site and write travel reviews, or anything travel related, stories, adventures, etc. Get a copywriter to do it if you have no time or no ideas. A blog will give you the content you need to rank better and give value so you can add adsense.

There might also e other ad programs that will let you monetize the site. Adsense is not the only one.

Hi, yep I've began to do some good SEO in post title's and posting them on Google + with Hootsuite, hoping that my ranking improves a bit.

Can you reccommend me other ad programs beside Adsense and Fb Ads?
