How can I monetize my blog?

I have started this blog a few years ago, having an incredible hunch that Alexander the Great's grave will soon be found.

The website is alexandersgrave.com

To my tremendous luck, a few months ago new findings have been announced at Amphipolis - Greece.

Findings that indicate that Alexander's mother, Olympias and his greater general and close friend Hephesteon are buried there. Followed by an extreme possibility that Alexander is buried there too. (Excavations are not finished yet)

I have enriched my website with many historical facts about Alexander the Great and news about Amphipolis (not very often I have to admit) The question is: What can I do to monetize my website now and what can I do to prepare for the massive exposure in case Alexander's grave is found?

Any suggestions regarding the website and how can I improve it are mostly welcome. :-)

The page cannot be reached now... but I have seen from a previous image of your site that you have amazon offers and adsense ads in there. That is great.. you are already monetizing from you blog. You may want to include affiliate offers to from Clickbank or CPA offers. Your audience can be generic and not targeted to a certain demographic so you can just put a generic offer in there too

Thank you Eagle07. What exactly do you mean by a generic offer? :-)

Thank you Everblue, :-) I guess I have to make a press kit and mail it to a few agencies and hotels. Do you think this would work well?

As a matter of fact it falls upon your inspiration and ideas to make it work.
Brainstorm what kind of companies would love to have your traffic, then make a google search and find the most successful on the niche you have chosen.

Contact them directly with your proposal, along with some analytics information, like traffic, demographics etc, and try to work out some deal.

If your traffic is high, you can potentially make a lot of money with your website.

    Hello Katerinabat,

The most common way to monetize a non-affiliated blog is to start PPC advertising (Pay per Click).
Adsense is the most common service, used by most people.

Now if you would like something more targeted and possibly more fitting to the nature of your blog, you should try to think who could make profit from the visitors of your blog.

In other words, if most of your visitors are people interested in Greek history and Greece in general, you could try to contact companies and travel agencies in Greece in order to make a mutual financial agreement.

For example let's say that "Amphipolis Travel Company" is organizing travelers group from all around the world to visit Amphipolis.
You could put their banner on your website, and for every visitor who clicks this banner and makes booking in this company, you could earn a nice percentage of the transaction.

You can think of much more, just imagine who could need your traffic, I bet you will find lots of potential partners!

    Cheers

That's really awesome that you registered that. Keep pushing content to it and it will take off eventually.

You can sign up for affiliate programs for expedia and the such to get some income rolling in.

Maybe find some items on Aliexpress that are targeted towards that. Also I'd start a facebook group and collect emails from people who are interested in this.

I didn't take a look at your page, but if you implemented a newsletter form with subscriptions, you can send regular newsletters that, besides bringing people interesting detail about Alexander the Great, also contain offers.

If you haven't you can add one now. Also you can use the Call to Action button on your Facebook page to ask people to subscribe to your newsletter.

        Good luck!

Off the top of my head it doesn't appear to be a great money making opp but I'd be building a following who has a similar interest, ideally doing videos on youtube talking about alexander the great. Instagram pics, archaeology, etc and maybe put some Amazon links on your blog to various related books (history, etc).

Thank you all for the great advice. What do you think about the website's design? Is it engaging? What can I do to make people stay longer?

Your website looks great to me. I think you have already well monetize your site with Adsense and Amazon. However you may also try Clickbank. All you have to do is to drive traffic to your site.

Hi Vishwa, I have about 400-500 unique clicks, but my stats show me that they don't stay too long. Do you think this could be a content problem?

Katerinabat, what you are really wondering is how you can turn your blog into a money making engine. Sure, you can link ads from Google and Amazon, but there might be something more. I would make sure to update my SEO and all hashtags, keywords, and meta data for the site with anything that would return a result in favor of my page. I would then take a look at ol' Alex and ask, "How can you make me money?" The answer can be found in the stories (even myths) that he can teach others. I would consider what some have suggested in previous posts and turn your blog posts into actual content via written/audio/video. Then you can really get into the realm of marketing something that has demand.

I checked out your site and it looks authentic. The last post was 8 months ago. Is your goal to keep an active blog or just post historical updates? Are you building your fan base? Are you connecting their ideas of him to their own perception in a way that makes them want to take action on something? If not, then your site is not monetized.

Also, when they do find his remains and the news breaks, I can see you cashing in on a fairly profitable domain buyout in which somebody buys your domain for a huge sum. This is more of a niche, so you might need to play the field just like selling a house.

Katerina.. I see that you already monetized your site a bit....

Google Adsense is good, but often you get only small amounts with it, I think people tend to skip those ads more and more, but that is my impression...

You already have put amazon on it ! That is a good choice...
But I would add a sentence at the end of your articles, pointing to a related book on amazon, maybe other stuff like DVDs etc... if you want to go more general, ok, but stay in the category, because the more you go general, less "targeted" it will be.

Someone else gave a good idea...
Start a newsletter ! You don't need to use those paying autoresponders, just a newsletter to start with...

Later on you could get an autoresponder with 6-7 emails being sent automatically, with good articles/info and your affiliate programs... you can start with a free one.. I use it now...

Maybe you also can find more targeted affilate programs like ClickBank ( I heard rules changed, less good now ? ) , JvZoo and WarriorPlus.
