Not looking for pity, just advice

Hey Dev,
Take consolation that we all at one point in our Lives have been thru similar circumstances. It ain't fun but will only make you stronger down the road.

The best thing I could say is please keep interviewing. And do this IM at night and on weekends.

Do NOT stop looking for a job. Secure one and like I said you can build up a business in the Online World over time.

Not sure how much you have left , but I would advise that you do not drain all that 401K.

In your off hours it would not hurt to come in here and absorb some info. from some of the long time, reputable Members.

Lots of good stuff.

But please maintain your employment and have that stability of a full time job coming in

Forget about internet pipe dreams. You should be doing the following and only the following:

1. Hunt relentlessly for a Job in your industry/profession. You might have to find something else outside your specialty, but the idea is that you need full time work with benefits.

2. Pick up odd jobs and part time work wherever you can. (bartending, delivery, chauffeur, larborer, bouncing, etc) You have to be willing to do any kind of work as long as it's legal and ethical. Drug dealing and working the corner are bad ideas, but suck up your pride and do whatever else it takes to make ends meet and get back on your feet.

I suggest you look for another job or anything that could give you additional cash while you start with affiliate marketing which I highly recommend. Building an online business takes time so you have to have some cash to pay the bills while you establish a profitable online business as another stream of income.

Get your next job.

You really have to get the "story" out of your head...employers don't want desperate people in their organizations. It's "employment repellent."

Do this: DECIDE to get your next job by a certain date.

Decide.

Then do the actions necessary to get that job.

People are hiring. Jobs are abundant, especially if you can travel a bit. Show how you create value for an organization and people will make room.

But the first key thing for you to do is get out of your own head. You're beating yourself, right now.

Keep doing what you know you can do and part time learn about how to make money with this tool of the internet. Personally I want something I am in full control over. Even the traffic. You really should set aside marketing budget and let your money work for you.

You need to be able to send enough traffic daily to see steady resuls that you can scale with or work on...

That's just too bad and I sympathise.

I'd agree with what others have suggested - get another job and do your online marketing part-time until it starts to produce the result that you want.

Google search "xxx job vacancies in xxxx" (eg: "sales vacancies in London" or "IT vacancies in Birmingham")
Visit each and every company website listed in the Google results
Check the vacancies they have
Register with recruitment agencies for temporary/permanent work
Apply direct to companies (submit your CV)
If no suitable vacancy, send your CV/Resume in speculatively with your application letter addressed to the HR department or even to a named person within the company.

Avoid sob stories - no one, unfortunately, wants to know - just stick to facts - your qualifications, experience and what you are able to offer your prospective employers.
Then check out sites that give free advice on interview techniques so that you are better placed to do a good job when you get invited to attend an interview.
Be positive and enthusiastic. It may take you a little time to find the right job but you will find something so long as you are determined and persevere.

And another thing, when you do get the interview and are asked why you were made redundant, don't be apologetic. Simply state that the company had to cut back and that you were last in and first out. Don't elaborate.

Whatever you do, don't attempt to answer any question as to WHY your company needed to downsize, even if you know that they are about to go bust! It would be a very bad move.

As an executive search consultant, I did not put a highly qualified and suitable candidate (a Chartered Accountant) forward for a FD position because when I asked why he wanted to move from his current job, he said "I give the company less than three months to fold".

A prospective employer (or a consultancy acting on behalf of their client) will wonder if you are indiscreet about or disloyal to your current/previous employer, you would be the same with them. So no matter how suitable for the job you might be, your application would fail.

It's all about exchanging value for money. Find problems to solve, and solve them by selling products and services.

Get a job man. Any job just as long as it starts paying the bills. Sometimes when the job that we want isn't available right now, we have to settle for something less desirable.

IM will not work for you while you are desperate for income.

The 'Entrepreneurial Mindset' can be aquired over time. Take care of today now and later on when your financial house is back in order, you can resume.

Have you ever tried Ebay or Fiverr? You should start there to get some immediate revenue going. Both are work at home sources of income, but they're the fastest and easiest way to get going - even if you have limited dough (ebay in particular). I suggest these instead of building and marketing your own website because there's alot to learn, and within that timeframe, you could be earning some sales and income coming in from the easy sites like ebay and Fiverr.

You can start you own business, for say; website, blog , content writing etc

Keep your head up made. Bad things happen to good people but you can and will overcome this! Internet marketing takes a long time to start earning money so it is better if you keep job hunting

A number of people have already said this, but focus on getting your next job before anything else.

Even if it is not the perfect job, just get yourself working again to bring in some income.

Once that's taken care of, spend your spare time on IM. Pick one area of IM, eg. list building, and give it 100%... don't jump around from one thing to another.

Finally, remember, that everything that happens, every failure, is one step closer to success. Be positive, and every area of your life gets better.
