Partnering with medium/big size websites

I would like to ask you guys an opinion...

I have a brand new website, which is an online fashion boutique, selling jewelry, clothing, fashion accessories, handbags and so on...

I was adviced by another Warrior to try and partner with some medium/big size fashion boutique, because as i explained to him, my margins are really high and if i give away 50% commission i would still make money and also i think my products are truly beautiful and almost impossible to find them anywhere on the web.

Maybe they can blast my products to their customers in email newsletters or something similar that will help me drive traffic and sales...

The problem is that i am a brand new website, also i am not incorporated and i am selling as an individual and not a company.

Do you think is worth the effort? Or will i waste my time? Do they will consider it or you think they wouldn t even reply to me?

Also if you think is the right thing to do, how would you approach this medium/big website and what kind of partnership structure would you propose to them?

Thanks!

While I've never been in your situation or have sold anything remotely close to what you're offering, I'll say this...

There's only one way to find out for sure, and that's by making a proposition to these larger sites.

I'm not sure I can give you the best advice as to how you should approach them, but if you don't even try then you you'll never find out.

    Regards,
    Daniel

That's true, but writing a good email and reaching out to this websites is pretty time consuming so i wanted to know if anybody tried this before. I guess i will follow your advice and give it a try.

      Thanks Daniel!

And this is the reason why a lot of people give up in this biz. Iam not saying you are or will. But as Daniel said the only way to know for sure is to Test it. And contact some of these bigger boutiques.
Which takes time and action and commitment

Over time if you can show them with some concrete stats on the activity of traffic to your Site , I do not see why they wouldn't consider partnering with you

You could act as a "siphon" bringing targeted traffic to their Site and work out an arrangement where you take a finder fee for this. Aff. Marketing of course is an option as well offering them a flat rate with each single piece of traffic that comes to their Site with you being the SOURCE

Thanks Robert, i have been working pretty hard for the last 3 months. Building the website, adding the products, and started 1 month ago marketing it. Now i get 50 unique visitors per day so i don't think they would be interested in my traffic.
But they could be interested in my products, which are really affordable and beautiful compared to what's out there...
Now i asked this question because i have tried many things and still struggling to find what works. This strategy that was proposed by another warrior as you know can be really time consuming so i wanted to know the opinions of experienced IM first.

But you and Daniel are right, if i don't try it i will never know...

The thing that i would like some feedback on what would you propose to them. Being an affiliate 50/50 or maybe sell them this products in bulk if they like them, or even something else...

      What's your opinion on this?

Also my big concern is that i am not incorporated and selling as an individual and not a company...

      Thanks guys!

At the moment you really haven't got much of a proposal. You can't offer a prospective partner much in the way of brand reputation or visitors, nor a realistic indication of the sales potential of any partnership.

Your "strength" would appear to be the ability to seek out craft items from around the world that nobody else has found. That's all well and good, but you haven't yet demonstrated that the products you've sourced have sales potential. And the larger sites you want to partner with will already have their own in-house sourcing departments.

So your best options, as I see them, would be:

        1) Concentrate on building your site's reputation for sourcing and collating unusual products. If you go this route, be careful not to spread your product net too wide. A smaller, more defined product range will make it easier to establish your brand.

        2) Approach businesses that are active in your field of expertise and either offer your services as a freelance product-sourcer, or apply to join them as an employee. This might not be what you want to do long-term, but you'll acquire industry experience and important contacts that will help you in the future.

If you go for option 1, it will take time and effort to reach the stage where you'd be an attractive partner to an already successful business. You'd almost certainly need to have a strong presence in the market, and/or a demonstrable record of success.

By the way, congrats on at least getting your site up and running. However, I found quite a few dead links as I browsed. Oh, and it's "stationery", not "stationary".

        Whatever you decide, good luck.

Frank your comments were really helpful. The harsh truth but i still i prefer somebody to be honest with me.
Yes this products are unique to me! 100%. But is wasn't me, it s was sister that did all the work outsourcing them.

I found quite a few dead links
Could you please tell me which ones?

"Stationery" ahhahah. That's a typo. Where is it? Thanks for pointing that out!

I got a number of "Page Not Found"s when I clicked on the product links, but that could be a factor of the page-loading time, which from my connection at least, is on the (very) slow side.

You've got "stationary" listed throughout. By the way I clicked this link:
https://www.scrafted.com/stationary/ and it took 3 attempts to get to the page, which finally loaded after a wait of several minutes.

Notwithstanding any of these issues, you have a potentially good idea, and if only one or two of your unique designs were to take off virally, it could help to kickstart the business. But unless you have a lot of resources (and time) at your disposal, I'd definitely limit the product range to begin with, and concentrate on becoming established in a distinct product niche.

Wow, this is really really bad! I am working to fix speed and loading time issues but never thought customers would get a page not found error.
This site is driving me crazy.

I have a lot of time (i left my job) and i am working 25 hrs a day, but not a lot of money, sigh!

Do you agree the products are great? I mean i know pretty much nothing about women handbags but looking what's out there i m confident about my products...

              Thanks Frank!

Based on your products(awesome stuff there !), I can say your site will get good traction from Facebook. I dont see any FB page linked tho.

Not incorporated is not a problem. You might want to considering doing that for your own good.

Working on a new site is always challenging specially when you are considering monetizing it. Have you considered selling the same stuff by creating an account on sites like Amazon ?

Depending on where you operate from. here is another strategy that can get you 1) quick conversions 2) New Subscribers :

GROUPON ( or Groupon Like Sites) - Offer your products to Groupon's users. WHen these users buy, they become your customers. Earlier I read that you are willing to offer 50% commission - you can do the same thing with Groupon.
But make sure, before you do that - you should have an excellent process in place to eventually sell these people - so capturing the details of this users important.
Use Groupon as a marketing platform - to get traction.

If i were you, I would do this before going to groupon:
        1) My social presence - FB, Twitter, Instagram, (LinkedIn doesn't harm either)
        2) Email system is fully automated (or not). Use mailchimp or your fav system to regularly remind your visitors you exist.
        3) Use Retargeting. (a lot of people will come and leave your site - the best way to get them back is thru retargeting.)
        4) Have a review system in place as well

When you approach groupon - there'd be two way to sell. 1) list a product on their site and users buy directly - then you ship the products to them
        2) Offer coupon codes on groupon - for a batch of products - then let those users come and buy products on your site.

This way you get visitors and some real action on your site rather than just sales.

        Happy to help!

emzi thanks a lot! I thought about groupon but i think you need to be a company in order to launch a deal with them... am i correct? I used groupon (not groupon but a similar site) in the past for another site i had and i remember they requested a bunch of company documents... As mentioned above i am not incorporated at the moment and i am selling as an individual.

          3) Use Retargeting. (a lot of people will come and leave your site - the best way to get them back is thru retargeting.)
How can i do this? Can this be done with some plugins (i am using wp). Are you talking about plugins such as "Recover Cart Plugin"?

A sole proprietorship is also allowed. I have used this strategy and at least back then it wa allowed. This was in 2013. But yes, it would then mean you need to at least register a Sole prop first. There are definitely benefits of incorporating as I dont see any reasons why you should not. You have excellent product offering and your site is professional and you are serious enough about it to install a SSL certificate. So why not just incorporate.

The best way is to introduce a blog section where you can discuss valuable information on Fashion. Jewelry, Accessories, and lots more.

After posting content, just promote the same all over Social Media.

That's great to hear emzi! You know, flying for pleasure is one thing and flying as a career is another thing. I personally love flying more than anything else (exept a couple of things, you know what i mean) but also used to hate my old job more than anything. Working 27 days a month, waking up ar 3.30 am, flying 9 hrs a day without counting commuting from airport to home and viceversa (add another 3 hrs for me), waiting times and earning 1500$ per month was just terrible. I was an airline pilot for 2 years on MD82 for a big airline but I started the unconventional way, flying corporate (usually you start to work in the corporate world after many years in the airlines) and that s a whole different game. That is nice but is hard to find a job in that world. I was a co-pilot on Gulfstream 3 and then a captain on Embraer Phenom 100. I enjoyed that a lot and the pay was good and nice hotels!!! Not those crappy hotels where the airlines puts you in.
If you want to do that follow your dream and if you start from 0 in 2 or 3 years you could be working... I personally don t want to go back to that world and find this IM stuff really interesting, untill i run out of money to pay my bills of course... ehehheh.

What is your website name? I would recommend reaching out to website like Gadgetar.com msg me and i will give you the email address and see if you can collaborate with them. It is a Deal / Coupons posting website, and probably can help you generate sale by posting your product's deal with them.

One technique I've been using for years is to get relevant articles published on top ranking and authoritative sites with a link back to my niche sites. If you're on authoritative websites that are ranking 1-3 in the SERPs, it's as good as having your websites there yourself. Way back in the day, we called this no-cost advertising method ... ... which is much easier, faster, and more effective than mindless prospecting for "partners". Many authoritative sites are always looking for quality relevant content to provide added value to their visitors.

With your margins as high as you say they are, have you considered Amazon FBA

It stands for Fulfillment by Amazon. You basically send your products to amazon they warehouse and ship the product for you.

You should look at the amazon seller forums which you can access from your seller account or just google amazon seller forums. You can get all your questions answered there.

Also look up blogs by Skip Mcgrath, jordan malik, jim cockrum, to name a few.

IMO if you are trying to sell physical items online then you really should strongly consider the FBA business model.

Let me ask you a few questions - Who gets more buyer traffic to their site, your site or Amazon.com? Would you like to NOT deal with shipping items to the customer or deal with any customer satisfaction issues? Would you like to partner with the largest ecommerce site online? Would you like to have your inventory showing on the site that has the highest level of customer confidence and customer satisfaction?

It does make sense to still use your site to sell and promote your product but it also make great sense to have some of your inventory in an Amazon warehouse where they will take care of the shipping when a customer buys it from their site.
