What is your business going to be about? What is your product or service? If you provide more details, people may be able to give you some advice. Or are you still deciding on what business to start? If so, come up with a solid business plan as a first step.

Why would you be planning to hire staff for an unknown, non-existent business that you don't even know what it is yet? You've got this completely wrong. And no one can tell you what kind of business to start. You probably shouldn't be starting a business at all from what you wrote. This is just a disaster waiting to happen.

Yeah, Mark this might be a little unrealistic. No one outside a coach will guide you each and every step.

I would scrap the part about the hirees at least until you get your feet wet.

You seem really enthusiastic which is great. But I think you may need to take it slow and you might find your Plan changing and adjusting accordingly

You should start a service business, such as: spokeperson video, voice over talent, or graphic & web design. Those 3 niches of services are best for your online business from home. Now, go to google or youtube or stay on this forum and search more about them all. Study them a bit and ask again after you have a niche you want to go with. Good luck.

Mark, how about starting a website first?

You're going to need somewhere to sell these services and a good looking website, which is customer friendly might be a good place to start.

Work out exactly what you want to do/sell, research the market (is there a market for this?), then build a site around your company.

Even if you later decide to just sell these services through a 3rd party (Warrior/Digital Point/Upwork or whatever!) you still need some sort of internet hub where potential customers can check you out.

    Cheers
    Jon

Sorry Mark, I'll be honest Software isn't my area of experience.

However, if I wanted the services which you are planning to offer and I found you on the likes of Warrior, Digital Point, Upwork etc. and you had a website then I would most probably head over to your site to check you out.

To me having your own site (or hub if you like) is all about enabling trust!

Somone who doesn't know you is interested in your services. Goes to your website, see's examples of your work, a photo of you, a bio! and they now start to feel that maybe they can trust you a little bit.

Better chance of selling to them.

Good luck with the business, would love to see your site when it's finished (post a link if you get a chance).

        Cheers

You're looking through the wrong end of the telescope.

First, look at all the various online business models (affiliate, ecommerce, domainer, etc) in order to fully understand the vast differences between each and how you actually make money in each.

Then decide which business model you want to create with.

Then investigate what you could do with the model and have a focus of interest.

Then start an experiment with that business model in a area of interest to you

    Then..

    Then...

Way, way, way down the list are the issues of office, staff, etc... and even then only bring them on-board when you absolutely need them and not before.

    Good luck with your venturing.

Before you start spending money and time on your business ideas please make a concrete plan.

What exactly will you sell? Is there a strong competition? Can you be better than them? How exactly will you find people who will be aready to buy what you've got to offer?

Think through this thoroughly and make some calculations about the expenses and profits. How many people per month, how many sales, what are the expenses. If everything adds up then go for it.

If you just jump into something withouth paying attention to what I've just described you could end up wasting lots of your time, energy and money. If on the other hand you make a very concrete plan and the numbers add up then just do it!

I agree with Robert. You can't really expect the forum to walk you through your business set-up and "guide you in each and every step".

Use the search engine to find the topics related to the business ideas you have such as "graphic design" or "software development."

After you have a better idea of what you want to do then come back and ask specific questions.

And were is your market research? Are people buying what you think you want to sell? Where/how do you find those people to reach them?

Start what business? Sounds like you're getting ready to sell things on ebay. If you're talking about affiliate marketing business... i assure you that all of that isn't necessary. But there's nothing wrong with having a dedicated room as your official "office". If you mean selling information products online, you don't have to fill your room up with inventory yet. You first have to get a sale!! But first.... what is your niche, what do you want to sell, and in what format do you want it to be in.

  • Earn while you learn and discover what value you want/have to offer the world/your target market. Think high-ticket products/services to buy time and expedite the process. Do you want to market $20-$300 product/service or a high ticket product/service putting in the same amount of time and work?

Well now we know you're starting a web development service firm, you're going to need clients. I'm not sure you even have a portfolio setup. If not, you probably will need that. Also make sure you have contracts prepared ahead of time.

Figure out who your target audience is. Are you targeting small businesses with no clue at all about web design, or experienced webmasters who need extra help.

You might find clients online at Upwork.com or locally through the classified ads.

It really depends on the nature of your business, if you're offering physical products, software, e-books, etc..

But any business plan can benefit from the following:

    - Write down your goal and provide reasonable timeframes on achieving them.
    - Calculate your budget for startup/marketing.
    - Determine the amount of profit you will need to bring in weekly/monthly to maintain your business.
    - Establish an effective, streamlined training system for your employees.
    - Add incentives for your employees, either through commissions, bonuses, spiffs or fun contests. It helps out a lot, especially in the beginning to get off to a good start.
    - Evaluate your performance on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, determine what worked and what didn't, and revise your plan as needed.
