Need help and info in Clickbank funnel commissions

Hi guys, this post is for Clickbank merchants like me or for those who have experience selling products on CB.

Here's the situation:

There's one product I have listed in CB and this serves as my frontend product of my funnel (an ebook).

Once someone purchases this ebook, they get a series of emails leading to a purchase of my backend product (which is in the form of a membership).

For our affiliates, all they need to do is to promote this frontend product and if anyone from their audience completes a purchase, these purchasers gets listed in our email list to be sent an email series encouraging them to avail our backend product which is the membership.

Now my questions are: if you have/had funnels too (on a merchant's POV)

1. From your experience, how did you manage to pay out your affiliates because you list one frontend product in the marketplace and then promote the backend product to the customers of the front end?

2. Did you do it manually? If yes, how?

3. How did you manage to track any backend sale coming from a front end affiliate?

I apologize for the confusion in this post but I hope you guys get my point. Any informative reply would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

I would think clickbank could help you with this, did you contact them. What did they say?

    • Hi Al, thanks for the reply! I am awaiting for the response from CB while in the meantime trying to gain ideas from fellow merchants who are also selling their products and encountering this funnel issue. CB has a new feature regarding payouts of their commissions but I just want to know how merchants from years ago managed to pay and track their affiliates with the frontend and backend products.

      Regards!

I trust that your membership product is in the same ClickBank account as the ebook.

If so then the affiliate cookie set on the sale of an ebook will earn commission on the sale of a membership if the cookie is not overwritten during its 60 day lifespan.

The ClickBank Analytics reports will show sales of both items for each affiliate

Thanks for this Harvey! I will continue to update this thread regarding my progress or if I get clear answers. Your info is useful, I just need to clear up some things before launching a product on CB. Regards!

As mentioned above, the other products in your "funnel" must also be listed in CB so that
    1. the backend products are also sold via the same affiliate ID, and
    2. the original affiliate cookie is still available (i.e. still within the 60 day lifetime and has not been removed by the customer)

If you are capturing a buyers' list to an autoresponder, and your autoresponder supports the recording of one or more "custom" fields, you can also capture the affiliate ID to the buyer's opt-in record. This allows you to include the original affiliate ID on any emails sent from the autoresponder, effectively re-creating the original affiliate's cookie on the customer's machine for yet another 60 days.

This overcomes the situation where the customer may have erased cookies from his/her machine, and and helps insure that your affiliates will get credit regardless of whether the customer has erased cookies or if the follow up email is beyond the typical 60 day lifetime of the cookie.

P.S. This strategy should be seen by potential affiliates as a big bonus for YOUR affiliate program, and is a technique that is effective regardless of the affiliate network used (CB, JVZoo, W+, etc.) It requires a little more work on your part, to set it up, but can be well worth the effort in term of affiliate retention.

Hi Sid! Thanks for your comprehensive reply. You've been very helpful! Yes, they are listed as my product on CB (both ebook and membership offers). I also added a custom field for affiliates to write down their affiliate id for the purpose of tracking and keeping their records in place. Have to do a quick fixes here and there since we are switching to another email marketing software but I checked everything you mentioned here and they are good to go. Thanks a lot!
