Guarantees and what they mean

Here are some things I have found out about guarantees posted on a website.

Basically, they are useless. If the marketer decides to ignore the guarantee, you have little or no way to get your money back if you used Paypal. Paypal will not refund the money for a digital product. So it is much better to use a cc so that you can do a chargeback.

Be sure to decide right away if you want a refund, don't wait the 30-60 days that the guarantee states as the sooner you ask for a refund from your cc company, the easier it will be to get your money back.

Also, before purchasing a product, check out that marketer's support. Does he have a help desk? Are you able to access it? If so, post a question and see if there is a timely response.

Also try to contact the seller to see if he answers you. If he ignores questions about his product, he will never answer a refund request.

Only purchase from those you know and trust. And better yet, purchse through a well known marketer's affiliate link. You can then get that marketer to intercede for you. While you may not get your money back, you will at least raise a red flag with the marketer you purchased the product through. And since that marketer's business depends on keeping his customers happy, he will more than likely never promote another product for that unscrupulous marketer.

A marketer's business depends on his honesty and integrity. If someone doesn't uphold these, they will eventually get known as someone to avoid purchasing from and will go out of business.

Excellent advice. I've been stung twice by PayPal not allowing refunds for digital products. I should have known better the second time

      Hi Donna,

      thanks for sharing your experience.

It's true that Paypal's guarantee is pretty unreliable in many cases.

For services Paypal guarantee it's problematic too.

I paid a writer for 10 articles, he delivered 3 and never answered my dispute.
Got no cent back from paypal.

      It's depend.

For digital products Paypal will automatically reject your request for refund.

For physical product if it is about quality, it's problematic as Paypal will request for a third party verification unless the seller agree to refund the payment.

For non-delivery of physical product Paypal will request for online verification that the item has been received by the buyer or else it will refund the payment after a certain number of days.

    Hi Dave

I agree it is up to the marketer. However when a marketer ignores multiple email requests for a refund there is really nothing you can do as Paypal won't step in even though the payment went through them.

So unscrupulous marketers can keep your money and you have no recourse.

Yes that happens too. And there are unscruplous customers as well as unscrupulous marketers. But if a marketer states he has a 60 day, 100%, no questions asked guarantee, then he should follow what he posts on his website. Many people will only purchase because of that guarantee, thinking that if the product doesn't meet their expectations, they will get a "no questions asked" refund.

      I.A.N.A.L. but...

If you have a credit card registered with paypal, withdraw every penny from the paypal balance (this is crucial - balance must = $0.00) then make the purchase through paypal, with the whole amount charged to the credit card.

Then if there's an unresolvable problem, as a last resort, you can do a chargeback via the credit card without involving paypal - the paypal dispute rules don't come into it, it's as if you bought it directly from the card - but of course, in other scenarios (IE physical product), you should still have any paypal protection that is provided on that purchase and can use this first before resorting to a chargeback.

        Hey Roger

How are ya? Long time no hear.

That is a good idea EXCEPT if you are a marketer, your Paypal account is your business account, and you receive payments to that account. Then it gets a little trickier to empty your account everytime you want to make a purchase.

How do you do a chargeback? I understand that you can only do a chargeback provide someone has misuse or make fraudulent use of your credit card.

        Do I miss something here?
