From shared to VPS hosting... I really need help

My host advised me to consider upgrading my shared hosting account to VPS.
This means I need to switch hosts.

I've been looking around for hours, checking out VPS hosting offers, but I'm no techie and I'm really getting lost reading all specifics and features,...

Can somebody tell me what I really need to pay attention to? (Except for RAM, storage, bandwidth) What ele is important when getting VPS?

Any tips on reliable, affordale VPS hosting companies?

    Hi,

For the VPS, you need to check for the O.S (distribution) or How the system comes. In other words, who can install the LAMP (Linux, Apache Mysql, PHP) system, the update, who can maintain the security, how about backup... etc.
You need to be very technie to use and secure and maintain this system? What to do if you have server problem.
Are you independant with the server or does the hosting manager will help you.
I advise to take a hosting that is between VPS and shared. What not cloud or Pro or partial Pro (share Disk with pro database server)
The goal is to let the hosting provider do his job (if you like) when you are not a technic person

    Hope this help

If possible try to get one with SSD drives, it will dramatically help your performance.

How much traffic are you getting?

I can`t point you in the right direction when it comes to the tech stuff but for reliable providers check out KownHost.com & WiredTree.com I have personally used both for years and recommend them as `reliable`options.

What is the reason for the upgrade? You should figure this out first because upgrading may not solve your issue. For example, upgrading to a VPS will not fix a poorly coded or bloated website.

Only if disk I/O is the problem. If it's not, then the underlying disk is irrelevant.

Use VPS deals from yougottohaveithosting.co.za or veeble.org, their prices are competitive and servers are stable. They can be suitable for your needs.
