Why Most People Fail Online?

by amuro
42 replies
The most common reasons why most people failed online - including myself based on experiences - are because:-

1. Having the wrong mindset about making money and assume success is given to them because they invested.

In other words, they see internet marketing more like stocks and shares, options or binary trading.

2. Buying courses after courses without giving themselves enough time to go through, understand and apply

3. Trying too many things at one time.

Here is my honest opinion:

1. Writing articles will not make you money that is if you spend too much money on them.

Submitting and getting your high quality articles approved in article directories do.

Same goes for ebooks to ebook directories.

2. Building websites will not make you money. If you don't know how or spend too much time figuring on your own, get help from someone who do or outsource.

You need to spend more time marketing be it placing ads, building backlinks and doing videos to promote it.

That is how you get leads, sales and more sales.

In short, advertising, list building and email marketing is what makes you money.

If you do it consistently instead of buying course after course.

A marketer once told me -

In marketing, it's either

You are buying

Or you are selling stuff.

Buying only drains your savings while

Selling increases your earnings

If you provide and offer value to the right audience.

It is the same regardless of the business.

        As Benjamin Franklin said

Fail step one - planning - then never mind focus, action and work.

I think Kurt you are referring to negative cash flow.

All businesses have a cash problem when they don't have a system to control it.

The greatest stress for business owners is the uncontrollability of managing cash-flow.

There are a set of templates I'm releasing soon that gel all the issues that prevent businesses from succeeding. When a business owner enters their numbers into the templates they create a management system for their business.

Regardless of business type, niche, online or offline the 5 key systems we use to manage business are an Annual Budget, a daily operations system, a living cash flow forecast system, a basic purchasing budget and a variable expense control system.

If anyone did want to take a peek at the system they can PM me and I'll refer them to a preview.

Otherwise there is a video outlining the essential templates and three tips for immediate business improvement (only for serious business owners) here.

    I agree 99%!

Especially with the first 3 bold points.

I think traffic should come from both paid and organic sources but whatever you do, stick to it long enough for you to break through!

There's nothing worse than spending a year jumping from idea to idea never progressing at all and being in the same exact place you were at the start of the year.

Spending money on knowledge can save you a few failure if you apply them correctly. But you are right about doing too many things at one time can lead you down the path of failure. Having focus on one thing is better. Thanks for the post.

A big reason for failing online is probably a lack of perseverance... not sticking with one project until it succeeds before jumping on to the next time, hoping that the next thing will be easier or bring quicker results.

This is what got me. I wasted a lot of time jumping from one project to the next. I only started seeing results after I returned to one of my earlier projects and stuck with it.

There's lots of different online business models, and lots of ways to get traffic. So it's not so much about finding 'the right one' by jumping from one thing to the next, or trying everything. Find one online business model and one traffic strategy that works for you (given your time and resources) and then take action constantly, and stick with it long enough until you succeed.

I agree with you on the taking courses after courses leading to failure. What I don't agree with is the power of article directories.

Most of them are spammed to death with low-quality articles and don't have the ability to get you traction anymore. You should spend your time getting a position as a contributor in one of the major publications like Forbes, Inc, or entrepreneur to name a few.

You should learn how to build websites, at least the first few you start out, it's important to have the knowledge to do things on your own when you're first starting out. After you have a good understanding, you can start outsourcing.

That way, you know how to direct the process and won't be at the mercy of the outsourcer.

Success is never guaranteed, you need to try one or two strategies, stick with them long enough, if they don't work out, move on to the next one, but never ever give up.

Daniel, I am afraid I don't agree with you on article marketing.

Article marketing still works if you write contents that genuinely provide value as in what people need and want to know.

Same for document and ebook sharing which I have passion for besides just sending traffic.

And not just copy and spin for easy $. In the past there are many courses and software claiming that which I find to be very misleading.

If people like your article, they might not click the link immediately.

But they will print out or save into their PC, read again and share with others.

And if your article contains useful information, they will eventually click the link and buy whatever you recommend or offer.

I think the main reason people are failing is because they aren`t able to select the good information from the bad one.
The internet is full of false claims (just look for example how people are still talking about PR after 3 years) and many newbies listen to these false 'gurus' because of the lack of experience they have.

Good points you bring up but in reality this post could go on into infinity why people could possibly fail.

Many people are told to just take action and that can result in a newbie giving another newbie advice! It creates a perpetual merry go round people can never jump off of.

With so many thousands of scenarios in play it is hard to just say "do this don't do that" because everyone has a different threshold for learning, different comfort zone of activities they are cool with doing everyday and of course budget.

Still a great topic to touch on.

Oh goody - another "why they fail" thread.

Look, I make it 2016. The internet isn't some scary, mystical, novelty force any more. Many, if not most, of this forum's members will have grown up with it and be fully conversant with using the internet as an everyday experience. I think we're now at the point where we can safely say that the reasons people fail online are broadly the same as why people have always failed in business.

You've either got it or you haven't.

    Two main reasons:

    1. The source of success comes from outside themselves, rather than within. They are depending on the shiny object to do the work for them.

    2. When the shiny object doesn't produce immediate results (ie. after 3 days or so of effort) they give up on it and switch to another shiny object.

This results in a constant 'reset' to zero. The newbie never gets known for something, and never develops competency with a method--which takes adjustment. Things rarely work perfectly out of the box.

Finally, expectations are wrong. People expect linear growth when in fact growth is exponential. This means a flat level of improvement at the start even though effort is being pumped into the project. Given that people give up after just a few days, they never get out of this opening round and return to 0,0 on the curve when they jump to the next shiny object (two months ago a whiteboard animator, last month an SEO expert, this month a web designer...).

I think you make some good points. Nothing groundbreaking but solid.

I will say for #1 you may be operating in a "vacuum".

Just from a bigger perspective there are plenty of people who do invest in businesses including Online one's...and its a very prudent investment with high ROI in some cases.

There is nothing wrong with being a 'silent' partner whether that be a Silicon Valley Upstart or someone partnering up with their son or daughter giving them 5k or $10K to invest in a top notch Coach. And then the parent takes a percentage of their Profits once they start making money

    It is pretty simple....

People fail because they don't see "online business" as a real business where people hand you money for solving a problem.

They're wasting time looking for the "secret" to earning money with zero work instead of looking for profitable problems to solve.

I can tell you exactly why many fail, based on doing this a long time and reviewing hundreds of websites:

    - Lack of common sense and strategic planning.

Here is a typical Warrior fail:

    - Create WordPress site (because easy and not need to learn html or php skills) reviewing an Amazon product (easy to be an affiliate making 4% commission on a 1 day cookie). The site looks like a zillion others online (because some WSO recommended a theme). If the content is unique (big if there) it is generic glop or poorly written. A visitor to the site reads one paragraph, realizes this is generic glop and hits the back button to find a site with REAL expertise and a REAL product review.

End result is site makes pennies, if anything.

    This isn't rocket science.

Here is a simple test: review websites where you get information and/or buy products from. How professional do they look? How much information is available? Is this information you trust? Why do you trust the website?

    Now look at your website.

This is going to be harsh - but necessary: OP, check out your original post because in one paragraph we have a good example of what I am talking about:

    Here is my honest opinion:

    1. Writing articles will not make you money that is if you spend too much money on them.

Submitting and getting your high quality articles approved in article directories do.
    What we have here is:

    - Generic.

    - Poorly written (if English is not your first language most of the time the content you are writing and think is good will be viewed as mediocre by others). Sorry. That's the way it is.

    - Lacking common sense and strategic planning. If you are paying to have articles written, and paying dirt cheap amounts, the quality will be, at best, mediocre. Spending less to have an article written does not mean you will make money from the content.

Article directory marketing has been dead for years as a means of making money. Basic research, such as doing web searches and noticing how often content from article directories appears in the top results, would tell you this is a waste of time.

One of the conclusions from the OP, that buying products only drains your money - is wrong. If you are not educating yourself how do you expect to be successful?

Example: the OP mentioned "building backlinks". OK. If you are not reading up on the subject and buying products from experts how do you expect to build backlinks that will improve your search ranking instead of nuking it?

Instead of saying webmasters need to build backlinks but it would be a waste of money to actually learn how to build good backlinks - how about saying webmasters need to build backlinks and here are 5 excellent resources I used to learn how to do this right and which improved my website rankings.

I believe most people "fail" to make money is not so much because it's online, but because it's hard to make money for yourself period. I don't have the statistics in front of me, but I bet you the success percentage of new businesses is extremely low.

That's why most people just work for the man.

I agree with the mindset thing.

I think most people just think of it as "make money online" and not as running a real business.

I think that is why people with a truly entrepreneurial mindset can take just about anything and make money with it.

Those without, you can even give them a step by step, proven money making system, and they either won't do it or try to do something else, or don't stick with it and on and on....

It takes a plan, a mindset, a goal, focus, persistence, and dedication.

I think the main reason people fail is that they don't take enough action and aren't focused enough. There are so many distractions out there online and it's easy to get wrapped up in BS.

I will tell you why people fail. The number 1 reason is because they are side-tracked by wrong advice that is jumping out everywhere they look for decent methods to earn money. If someone who is really making money online would show them how to really do it - they would all be making money in no time.

But because there is so much non-applicable and wrong suggestions people just get lost and distracted and they never complete any job properly. What people need is step 1, then step 2, then step 3....and they need real things that really make money, not some high promises and false claims. If those "gurus" would give them real advice about how money is really made, then people would not fail. But big majority of "gurus" are just promising and showing photos and videos and taking people for a ride...

FEAR: Fear of failure, self doubt & fear of taking some small financial risks. This leads to never taking action or giving up before they see any success! They fail because they give up before they even really get started.

UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS: If they manage to get over their fears and get started, they have urealistic expectations that money will just roll in. It takes time to learn how to make money online and when that money doesn't start to roll in they give up and move onto the next shiny object.
