I need some help with a Hostgator SSL Question

I am currently using a Hostgator reseller account with about 30 different domains hosted with them. I use them strictly for affiliate and CPA work and one corporate presence website for myself. I have the silver plan and its 50 bucks a month.

I wanted to get an 800 number for my CPA efforts and general business use and was told I would need to get a business account to do that. I did some snooping and noticed their business plan is only 12.99 a month with the 1800 number included and I can host unlimited sites with unlimited storage and bandwidth.

The sales guy was trying to tell me I needed an SSL aka separate business account for each domain if I intend to use them for e commerce. I explained to him I am an affiliate marketer and do CPA offers and am not really 'selling' anything....

Do I need an SSL cert for every domain?

    I don't use SSL...

From my understanding, you only need SSL if your site is exchanging private information. If you are referring to a site like clickbank or a CPA site, the publisher should have that taken care of...

    that's my understanding anyway.

SSL is for online credit card or private data processing encryption.
Seems that guy either didn't get your intention or was trying to sell you an un-needed product...

      Blah, They sent me this...

      Hello,

Unfortunately, you cannot downgrade from a reseller package to a shared hosting package. The reason being, reseller hosting packages can have multiple web sites (each with their own control panel) and utilize WHM (a feature shared hosting does not have).

You'll need to order a new shared package, reupload your website to that package, and submit a cancellation form for your original reseller package.

      I apologize for any inconveniences.

I am still confused if I can host unlimited domains on their shared business package then how could I possibly manage unlimited domains with only one control panel?

managing all of your domains under a single control panel is kind of a pain in the ass, you set up a main domain name, then each additional domain name is added as an "addon domain" and you manage them that way.

It makes things a little more confusing when you're trying to navigate through all your crap because you can see the folders of every single site as opposed to the files from just the one.

i.e. any of my sites can also be accessed on the web by typing "subdomainid.mainID.com or mainID.com/addonid as they're all subfolders of your main domain name.

        It's not a huge deal, I don't think anyway.
