How Do You Build an Online Store?

I'm trying to find an online solution for the products and services I constantly keep referring my clients to. Some are affiliate products, others are just products and services I'd like my clients to know about.

Is there a way to create a store within my own wordpress site where people can search for products and then purchase directly from within my store, even though they're not purchasing from me directly?

    For that you need to partner with the product vendors. You can't add the functionality to your website . But you can put links to their product payment page if that is possible with affiliate links, just an idea.

    WooCommerce is able to do this. I've done it on one of my own site (PM me if you want the link). This is a basic guide on setting up products in WooCommerce - https://docs.woothemes.com/document/managing-products/

    You will see that the set up for your own products is different than setting up an affiliate product. I myself have never set up an affiliate product in WooCommerce (only my own) but I know it can be done - the only thing is that if your customers purchases an affiliate product, the checkout would be done on the vendor page.

    I guess it depends on the specific situation, but you could great a blog category named "recommended products" (or something similar) and make a blog post about each one with affiliate links to said products.

    WooCommerce is a nice plug in to sell products online with WP. It's easy to create store with it even without much knowledge about coding.

    Hello Core Freedom,

    Yes, you can create a store from your own wordpress site you can install a plugin called woocommerce plugin and configure it depending what layout you want.

    I thnk You can install a script like osCommerce that help you with shopping cart rather than wp plugin. may ur hosting provider has that facility. Many free hosting providers like 1freehosting.com and 3owl.com provide auto install for ecommerce scripts.

      Yes, indeed. I want the store on my site with all of the affiliate products I continually recommend to my clients and students. I don't want them to leave the store to make a payment, if at all possible.

        I think this is more like dropshipping. You could ask the suppliers of your affiliate products, whether they'd be willing to dropship the products for you:

        - You collect orders and payments;
        - You pass the orders (and payment) on to your supplier;
        - Supplier ships the product (in your name).

        Here in lies the problem. You do not, nor will any plugin or script allow you to control someone elses sales process. Nor should they. Like someone else said, if you want to wholesale or dropship then you need to talk to the product vendor to make this deal. Why would anyone want to give someone else control of their merchant account, or set the rules for it?

        Remember this, if you want to own the sales process, you will also be owning all the customer service that comes with it. That means returns and any support and helpdesk issues.

        My suggestion would be to just make sure your affiliate links open in a new window, that way your site will always be open.

          I don't want to make deals or carry my own brand name products. I'm an online instructor and often refer people to products they need in order to succeed with my courses. As such I use affiliate links whenever possible. So far I've created a document listing the products I recommend with the affiliate links. Instead of them getting a document or send them off to individual websites, I'd rather send them to my online store where they can see my product recommendations and then click on the purchase button to get the product. This will take them off my site, unfortunately, but it's better than to hand out a PDF file. :-)

            You don't need an e-store for what you want, and as mentioned by agmccall, what you originally wanted to achieve isn't going to happen - you are an AFFILIATE, not a merchant, and you don't have any products to sell in an e-store. The 'customer' is not paying you for anything, and you are not selling anything to them - you are being paid a commission by the product owner, the actual seller, for your referral. Call that page whatever you want. Call it a review page, a resource page, etc. List the products with the affiliate links there. It sounds like you want a static page on your website displaying the products you promote, instead of sending those links out in a pdf. So do that.

              Not quite, Christopher. I am looking to have about 80% product links from Amazon and other sources for which I can use affiliate links. The remaining 20% are non-affiliate links. A static page and document is how it's been so far but because the product ranges are so different, it makes for my students to have to look for a needle in a haystack. If they're enrolled in one course about horses (for example), they should land on a page that shows products related to horses, not flowers or food. If they're enrolled in a garden course, they should only see the recommended garden products.

              I hope this makes more sense.

    If you can work wordpress than woocommerce should be a breeze.

    Whether it's affiliate, dropshipping or amazon or all, you can get them to check out within your website via woocommerce.
