Hello Guys,

I sold my first website for $350 today, and I am sort of lost on how to transfer the website to the new owner. I sold it on Flippa.com .

Can some one that has sold websites before help me with properly transfering it over to the new buyer.

Thanks so much,

DGA

What type of site was it? Wordpress? HTML?

If it's HTML, you can simply zip up all the HTML files, graphics etc. and email them to the buyer for them to upload to their own host.

If it's Wordpress, this is a question I had some time back, and I got some really helpful responses. Here's the thread for you...

      Hello swiftdeal,

It is a wordpress blog, and also a html. There is an ebook with sales page being sold with the site that relates to its content. So wordpress and html.

Congrats! If it's just an html site, just download everything and zip it. Then tell the buyer to sign up where you have your domain registered. Most registrars have some kind of push function.

    Hey DGA,

Congrats! As others have said, it it was an HTML site, just package everything and send it over. He'll have to unpack and upload to his server, change the nameservers and it'll be done.

If it's wordpress or some other CMS, you should do a complete backup first.

Then, if you're using cpanel, make a backup of the files and the database and restore it on the new server.

If you're not using cPanel, or for some reason the above method doesn't work, you can download all the files via FTP client such as Filezilla, then go to phpmyadmin and click on export, select the Drop table radio and it'll give you a chunk of text on the next page. Cut and paste it onto a notepad and save it as wp.sql.

Then, upload all the files to the new server and go to phpmyadmin, then click on import, browse the wp.sql file and import it. It should do. If there's any problem, drop me a PM.

    Thanks and congrats once again!

Hey Guys you have been so helpful.

Another question that I have is, can you still sell a website even if you buy the domain name, build a website on it and sell it with in a matter of 3 days. I hear that you have to wait 60 days to transfer the site to the other persons hosting account. I am trying to flip these sites quickly. I know there has to be a way around that.

        Whats your scoop on that?

          Hey there,

Congrats on selling your first website. You can still sell a website with the domain and built website on it. There are many buyers looking out for such type of sites. Just try to locate them and identify your buyer. You will have to make minor changes to suit them and their needs. So, this process should take atleast 10 or more days.

          Venu.

          Congrats on the sale!

The 60 day wait is for transferring to a new registrar. But you can transfer the domain to a new account at that same registrar with no 60 day wait period. So wherever you have the domain, just have the new owner open an account there, and then transfer it over.

Congrats on your web site sale. Flippa is great for flippin'. I think a lot of flippers use hostgator and godaddy to make their life easier.

My tactic is to give the new owner webhosting for a year as part of the package. All the best to you!
