    Read this:

And please ignore the PMs you get from people offering to "help" you or your friend.

    Regards,

Never say on a public forum you have money to spend. Even if is just 1k. Especially on this one. Lots of sharks... You will be inundated with PMs...

Find a niche he's passionate about.

Setup hosting & domain. Get setup with Aweber to build a subscriber list.

Save the rest of the money. Publish great content.

Once you have some quality content worth sharing, spend the rest promoting it.

    You can spend the budget:

    • Creating infographics. Brian Dean's guestographics method is a solid way to get exposure and links using infographics. Good designers can make them for about $250.
    • Making an info product. Selling your own product generates more revenue than ads or affiliate sales. Plus you can get affiliates promoting your product for you.
    • Buying ad swaps in email lists. You can use that exposure to grow your readership, build your own subscriber list, and sale products.
Bottom line, spending money without a great plan is a terrible idea. You can probably get a successful blog going for less than $100. Once you have a clear goal, find ways that money can help you reach it more quickly.

    Hi,

If he's going to start a blog about his bricks and mortar business or start an Internet business on another subject I highly recommend he buys Darren Rowse and Chris Garretts book and read it..

You don't need massive amounts of money when first starting out..

Anyway here's a link to the book (not an affiliate link)

    Good luck
