What WordPress Plugins are essential?

Hi

I have a couple of Plugins that I always include when I install WordPress, things like:
It's been a while since I visited this issue and I was wondering what other Plugins fellow Warriors were using on their WordPress installations? Which ones do you think are useful (or even vital) for Internet Marketing?

Thanks!

Bill

    Hey Bill,

I am a fan of Facebook connector. I have it installed on most of my word press blogs!

Also liking the Twitter Widget Pro and TweetMeme Button plugins (since Twitter is still all the rage!)

Facebook Connector: Facebook Connect Wordpress Plugin | Sociable! - The Social Media Blog
Twitter Widget Pro: Wordpress Twitter Widget
TweetMeme Button: Retweet Button Plugins - TweetMeme

These are not "mission critical" plugins but definately help connect your blog with the social networking sites.

    Hope this helps!

    Peace, DJ Bill

I think it all depends on the purpose of your blog/website. If the purpose is to collect opt in, then something like "What Would Seth Godin" plug in is great for it. But if your blog/website is there to drive traffic then "All in one SEO" will help. But there are some wordpress plug in that are a must:

    1. WP-Security Scan
    2.Dagon Design Sitemap Generator
    3. WP - Super Cache
    4. WP - DB Manger
    5. Akismet (Comment Spam Control)
    6. Google Analytic

Other then that there are some fun ones, like

    1. Internal Link Building
    2. Yet another related Post
    3. 404 SEO Plug in
    4. Exec-PHP

But again I think it all depends on the focus on your blog/website.

WP-Gravatar really helps making comments more personal and inviting.
WP-reCaptcha is good, if you consider any captcha at all.

Like Nickolie said, it depends on the focus of your blog. I wrote a post listing what I consider 'essential' plugins for my blog here - 12 WordPress Plugins I Can’t Live Without! | That SickHippie Guy?

I've also got a link at the top to 'active plugins' which shows what plugins I'm using.

I've got 32 active plugins, and some I could do without. Most of them, however, after using for a while I don't know how I could go back.

    Hope it helps!

Recently, all of my blogs get these:

    AddThis Social Bookmarking Widget
    Akismet
    All in One SEO Pack
    Category Page
    cformsII
    CommentLuv
    Dean's FCKEditor For Wordpress
    Ultimate Google Analytics
    What Would Seth Godin Do
    Wordpress Automatic Upgrade

    I just started using:
    WordPress Hashcash
    WP Twitip ID
    Page Links To

I use to use Utimate Tag Warrior and a few others but haven't for a little while now and don't notice the difference.

But I love plug-ins and am willing to try them once.

Blogging words to live by! I don't know how many cool plugins I've found just from trying them out to see how they work. There's been some that are okay, but they lead me to one that's even better!

With some contact forms, there is a way to direct them to another page on completion, and you could just track that page with GA. If you're talking about subscription signups, there is a plugin that links MailChimp and Google Analytics in your WP admin. I haven't used it yet though, so I can't say how good it is.

A simple one I'd is PageMash: WordPress › pageMash > Page Management WordPress Plugins

It makes it really easy to rearrange and re-order your pages so they appear exactly as you want them to.

Any plugin that helps you get rid of comment spam is a must have. When I was a newbie to wordpress I didn't have that and it killed my blogs.

WordPress comes bundled with Akismet - it kills a LOT of spam. There are always false positives and false negatives, but it gets a little bit better each version. A must have for any WordPress that allows commenting.

Nobody's mentioned Wordpress Database backup. I set it to email me a daily backup on frequently updated sites. Then if the worst happens, at least I haven't lost the precious site content.
