Amazon No Longer Giving Commissions for Your Own Purchases

For over 5 years I have been able to receive commissions on purchases I made on Amazon.com through my own links. So I recently bought a $150 mattress pad and when the order showed up in my Amazon Associates account but no earnings appeared after the mattress was delivered I was advised by Amazon that they have changed their policy.

Here is the new policy:

"Qualifying Purchases exclude, and we will not pay advertising fees on any of, the following:

***
any Product purchased through a Special Link by you or on your behalf, including Products you purchase through Special Links for yourself, friends, relatives, or associates (e.g., personal orders, orders for your own use, and orders placed by you for or on behalf of any other person or entity);"

That is true, it has always been the policy. I"ve tried before and comissions did not go though... this was a few years back.

If you are looking to game the affiliate system... get someone else to help you out, and buy through their link. Although I wouldn't recommend it. Bad karma. ; )

I just assumed that because they have paid on some personal purchases in the past that they had a liberal policy on the issue.

    Interesting.

Don't mean to pick on ya but this is a good example of why we see lots of "XXX banned me for no reason" threads. Gotta read the TOS.

No. I've been with Amazon since the year dot - my original tracking ID doesn't even end with the ubiquitous -20 and they've never allowed me to collect earnings on my own spending.

Can you imagine how many Amazon affiliates there would be if everyone could collect on their own purchases?

You're just lucky they've not busted you on it.

Yep, this has always been Amazon's policy. I was an associate in the early days and went out of my way to make sure when I bought stuff that it was associated with my affiliate account. Otherwise it'd be like getting cash back on every purchase you make. Not what the program is about.

Yep, like others have said it's been this way for a while. If you want to earn something back, try using one of those cashback sites which will split some of their commission with you.

    Even more than Clickbank "affiliates".

I remember the squalling that went on when CB put the multiple payment sources rule into effect.

Amazon has the associate program to make incremental sales they would not get anyway, not to give out backdoor discounts to affiliates.
