Namecheaps new Premium Article Service?

Just got an email from my domain provider, offering a "Premium Article" service.

I thought at first it might be just offering some kind of RSS, but now I'm not so sure. This surely must have an impact on those who offer article services?

Here's the relevant part of the email:

"...Does your writing sometimes fall a bit flat? Do you find yourself frustrated that you'd rather be coding, designing, or just relaxing instead of creating content for your website to drive traffic or for SEO purposes? The Rich Content service allows you to present your visitors with articles, blog posts and videos, picked up from an industry leading library containing millions of rights-cleared, premium articles. The same library powering leading industry brands such as McGraw-Hill Companies, The Chicago Sun-Times, Cox Newspapers, Kohler and the Canadian Broadcast Corporation. Rich Content is just $64.99 a year and can save you countless hours of often mind-numbing writing...."

So what's this library (the PD one??). Is "Rich Content" just a fancy marketing name for plain old normal content?

Maybe I'm being exceptionally stupid today but I don't get it. On the surface it looks like a great deal, but I'm none the wiser. Are they muscling in on the article provider services?

Anyone know the skinny?

Thanx!

Lee

Yep, have a look on their site, it gets a mention. It gives more details on the service but it seems it's done via a widget? If they are just pulling things via some kind of RSS thing then $70 a year is extortionate because they aren't doing anything. If they are using proprietary widgets that they control, then that'd make sense I guess.

Still if it was just RSS, well google hates those blogs so it wouldn't be a help (I've got a few just for link juice which I'll be dumping soon, and they are horrible). However NC talk about 'premium' articles which would seem to rule out RSS, as they pull up any old garbage in the niche.

    So I'm thoroughly confused!

I think it is not RSS but a little like those parked domain pages that generate/fetch contents based on keywords from your site. Here's their explanation of how it works from their website.

    How does RichContent work?
Rich Content uses widgets (a portable piece of code) to contextually read pages on your site and present users with links to relevant content. When a user clicks on a link, a new page is generated within your site where the full article or video can be viewed.

The landing pages I believe would be somewhat wiki like structured contents.

Thanks for the info but I'm still not seeing it. A wiki style page wouldn't seem conducive to monetization but I'm probaby wrong. I can't be arsed signing up to just to figure it out.

Was hoping someone had already signed and could point to a site where it could be seen in action, and it would all become clear.

Ok, so I've installed it and here's how it looks How Do Affiliate Programs Work | W3chaos Blog

The "More On This Topic" part between the blog post and the comment box is the Rich Content Widget. I've also put adsense on landing page which seems to be working fine. Signing up and installation was easier than I expected, took a couple of mins only.

I am not sure if google will crawl the contents from widget too, probably not, but it'd be great if it does. I'd like to know what would be the best way to monetize such contents in your opinion.

Mmm interesting. Doesn't appear to do a great deal more than any php script you can pick up out there. Suppose if you don't like messing with scripts it'd be worth the money, especially as you say it was fairly easy.

As for monetizing maybe some CPA offers, or affilate programs, which you could put down the side bar.

Sadly, this content is only useful if you already have traffic and want to provide some additional stuff to your readers. Otherwise, it can not be seen by search engines since it's all JS and as a result, fairly useless IMO.
