Launch Jacking: Does it even work?

Hey everyone,

I've been involved in Launch Jacking for quite a while. Mostly I will pick up a product from JvnotifyPro and Muncheye and register an EMD for it. For example, productnamereview.net and write a review of the product (About 1500 words) and 4-5 related articles. Then I start building backlinks to it (PBN + Blog Comments).

While I have made $298.50 from one launch, but I could hardly rank it to page 1.

So here's my problem:

I'm unable to get the keywords on page 1 for most of the launches because the time is too short. I only get like a month or 2-3 weeks to get the site to page 1. I know SEO, i mean I can get my sites to page 1 if i get enough time, like 2-3 months but for Launch Jacking, I don't get enough time since the launches start really quick.

All this makes me wonder, Does Launch Jacking even work in 2016? Is it still possible to pick up a product, register an EMD, and get it ranked to page 1 before the launch? Like in the past, back in 2013-2014, page 1 of Google was full of EMD's ranking on page 1 but now the search results are very different. Most of the time I see generic domains are ranking the first page.

I know guys that are doing launch jacking with generic domains, but so far I haven't had good success with EMD's.

What are your thoughts on this?

EMD's are yesterday's news. They don't work anymore. Google all but ignores them now. Branding is the new strategy. Backlinks still work. But page engagement is a big factor in rankings today. How long a visitor spends on your page before clicking away.

Launch Jacking will always work because it permits your website and your videos to rank highly and thus to be seen by somebody. It permits high rankings because it's a brand new keyword with little or no competition.

Videos are especially effective. Check this one out re: ranking on YouTube:

I've seen this done extremely well with the folks at BestBonusBlog.com.

They have a brand and people expect to hear from them.

I guess technically that's not launch jacking as they're relying on existing customers.

But I have run into their pages in search and I am not on their list. So maybe "hacking" their process might be a good thing to do.

Instead of buying new domains you could buy a classified ad on the warrior forum to use as your launch jacker.

Since the warrior forum is a high authority site, your page will rank much quicker and you can send more backlinks to your page without getting penalized by google.

Considering you pay about $10 for a new domain (not to mention the price of hosting) and a classified ad on the warrior forum only cost $20, I think it would be a good solution.

We all know that screen shots can be faked, so that's not real proof. I've never tried this myself, so I don't know how effective it could be.

  It used to work pretty well but I don't see them on the front page of Google any more. Authority sites appear to be the new trend. Currently, the #1 site for that keyword is You are being redirected... and the overall quality of that site is impressive. Not my site, btw.

I did well using these methods for a short spell back when i first got online... the problems I see...

1.) The poeple giving 200 free bonuses away for a $27 commission!

2.) Many launches... often shut down, so the window to make commissions is limited, especially, with the big marketers and high end products... and deep sales funnels. So, it's not like the old days...where I still get paid for a reviews I wrote in 2011.

3.) As you said, you don't have enough time to rank by the time the launch shuts down, and then as mentioned earlier... if it reopens it's either at a reduced price or for a limited time frame.

But, I do think there's still a ton of money there... the YouTube ranking video above is a prime example, you could create a sub-domain for each product, and just find a generic URL that fits... to link out to, and if the offer closes, at least with YouTube you can find another relevant product (or products) to list in the description.

There too, you don't have to go with IM/MMO type products... I was just going through ClickBank's marketplace and found several evergreen niche items with great sales pages, video, and all the swipes, etc... So, maybe mix it up a bit.

I'm just now getting ready to start pushing affiliate stuff, but my focus is on my own stuff (eBooks, reports, etc...) whereby the affiliate sales are a bonus. Then when I get my lists built up and segmented and seperate the "wheat from the chaff" I'll run promo's through the freebie seekers and parade gazers...

All-in-all, there's still a ton of money... I could kick my own ass for not sticking with reviews alone over the years... probably would be well into 5 figures a month by now... oh, well... live and learn!

This is the main problem that I've been having in the past year or so. I have a 4-5 year old review blog that ranks really well for IM/MMO product reviews, and when I post a review it usually ranks on page 2 or 3 with absolutely no SEO. If I do a little bit of SEO I can get on page 1 nearly all the time.

The problem, like you pointed out, is that nowadays by the time I can get my review to rank on page 1, the vendor has closed the product down.

As you also said, I used to be able to do reviews and make money on them for years. That's extremely difficult to do now because the products simply aren't around for that long.

I'm not a particularly big fan of this method, either, because what I've been noticing is that a lot of these products that come down get launched again by the same vendor as a different product a few months later. They change up the graphics and sales copy (sometimes they don't even change the copy) and re-launch the product as something new.

Not only has this made it difficult to make passive long-term sales from my reviews, it often results in angry subscribers and refunds.

It's made my job a whole lot more difficult because before I do a review now I need to question the vendor and find out how long the product will be live for.

It doesn't really cause me too much of a problem as far as the duplicate products go, because I only review and promote products that I have actually seen and looked through. I'm an established affiliate so I am almost always granted review access, but everyone makes mistakes and there have been a few occasions when I did not recognize that the new product was actually a copy of a product that was launched under a different name a few months earlier.

Personally, I don't care for the practice. I guess keeping products open for a limited time is alright because it promotes scarcity, but the re-releasing of identical products under new names is downright shady if you ask me.

Have you ever tried launching your JV review video on YouTube with live-streaming using Wirecast? It can usually rank your videos faster if you go this route instead of the regular video upload route.
Also, give yourself enough lead time when trying to rank your review video.
I would also suggest spending $5 in advertising - this will give you the opportunity to have more views by the time the product is launched (which will improve your click rate), also you can add a link to your review page directly in the video (this will remain even after your ad campaign has ended).

Why learn Launch Jacking when you can double and triple your income with Problem Jacking instead.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. So, i think building an Authority site is the key. I have seen lots of guys doing Launch Jacking with Authority sites and ranking the inner pages.

It works REALLY well these days. For example, this guy at: Jeff Lenney | My Official Website does very well with it almost always ranks for IM/MMO type product reviews.
