Christmas? Now is the time to start positioning yourself.

If you are doing affiliate marketing, ecommerce, Adsense - anything that involves consumer products, you know that Christmas and the holiday buying season can account for a huge chunk of your revenues.

I can't tell you how many years I'd start seeing the 'ramp up' of product promotions, increased ranking efforts, etc., and think to myself "jeez, better get on that!"

Well, by then it's a seriously uphill battle.

Now is the time to start positioning yourself if you want to capitalize on that holiday spending.

I remember when Peter Drew released his excellent "Olympics" WSO. It reminded me that in order to profit from events, holidays, seasons, etc., I need to start moving long before that time comes near.

In terms of the holiday season, the time to start planning and positioning is now. At this point, the longer you wait, the more work it will take.

    Hi Mark,
Yeah I noticed many of the shows on TV is showing christmas shows now.. Starz, Encore, and many other networks are showing The Santa Clause 3, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and etc ...

Kind of a reminder that soon everything will be centered around christmas again...

Great point to make on the forum. I give my targeted holiday sites (and i've got over 50 of them ) at least 2 months ahead of time to ramp up content production, refreshing, etc.

  • James, that's actually what got me to thinking about it again.

Keal, yup - by the time you start seeing it, you've missed the boat.

Interesting timing of this post. Just this morning I was thinking hmm, missed the boat on Fathers Day, maybe I should make some wordpress themes and so on for people to use to target Christmas.

    Thought confirmed!

Yup, "Holy moly, it's xyz-day ALREADY? Shoulda done something months ago!"

If you're doing any kind of consumer marketing, it's a good idea to keep around one of those calendars that lists every holiday, not just the major ones, print out schedules for different sports, various religious holidays, the major "National Days" for large countries, etc.

    Hi Mark

I agree - now's the time to think about Christmas. Some IMers get caught up in the 'here and now' and forget to look ahead. I've even seen people start their Christmas product creation at the beginning of December and I thinks it's way too late to be starting.

With the 'credit crunch' in particular buyers want to spread the cost of their shopping rather than do it all at the last minute. I've bought items at the end of Summer and have put them away for later.

One news item that got me thinking ahead was about .75 million babies being born in the UK last year. That got me thinking about the number of new moms who would want to get back in shape, any baby-related info products, plus in a few years time those babies will be old enough to start nursey, school etc. There's a big number to target and that's just in the UK - what must the figure be worldwide?

Plan ahead and stay at the forefront of the game.

I was only looking at a site that had not made masses of money over the last few years but it has been residual and thought this is teh christmas its going to make the money... I started it last week and I am sooo fed up with it however I know it will be ok.... just too lazy and have some other great ideas.

I have an adult site that every year I plan on doing something ready for valentines then february comes and goes then I decide to do it ready for the following year...procrastination is the devil!

At my day job we are getting ready to have all of out Christmas set up in the next few weeks. I think it is crazy, but we have customers that are ready to buy as soon as we have the product on the shelf.

It is the last thing I want to have to think about in September, but I guess there is a need/want for it this early.
