How would you convince an "expert" to write your content?

Hello, I starting a new membership site, but for this one I need some experts input. Now I have found a few experts in my field, however I am at a loss of how to approach them and ask for their services.
How much would you offer to pay the expert and how(ie by pages, by time)?

Would you offer a % of sales instead of one time payment?

Or would you just offer to promote him like crazy in your site and ask him to do it for promotion only?

I only need about 25% of the content written by someone else, its all the "scientific" things I need written for me. And it needs to be one of these experts. Not just anyone.

Anyone here who has asked experts to write for them, I would greatly appreciate some input. I am eager to get the ball rolling on this one. Looks good!

Thanks

    Hi,

You have some great ideas in your OP for barter type arrangements. To find out how much you should pay them, I would just ask them.

Also, you could go to sites like ethernet.com and see what the experts are charging. www.ethernet.com

Depens, some experts in my experience can be a little cautious in doing IM or non-mainstream projects, so your first job would be to sell the project. What will they get out of it? Some experts will also be concerned about their reputation. I think you should look for an expert with an entrepreneural streak.

      Could you interview them?

If so, try to set up a deal where you both retain copyright to the output. You each get to use it on your own. It's a lot cleaner than trying to split profits based on a %.

thanks for the replies. I never thought of interview type content. That may be good. Could this be done over email, ie I send him a bunch of questions, or do you think phone is better (guess it does depend on the expert).

Also I didnt think about them not wanting to damage their credibility or reputation. Unfortunately the experts I need are all psychologists, with the intimidating Ph.D. on the end. Dont think they will want to put their name anywhere near my site! And I dont know if any of them have an "entrepreneural streak" in them, maybe I will look for an up and coming expert, someone who would like his name out there.

But here is a serious question, all the info that they could tell me, well the things I want to know, I do know. They all have research papers and what not, so I have access to the info. But am concerned about copyrights and infringment. I certaintly dont want to takeaway from someones hard work. Thats not me.

But is using techniques that they find, illegal? I would of course link to them, cite the reference and clearly state that it was their findings.

In fact I have a course on persuasion and selling, by kevin hogan. It is mostly if not all just him citing college studies, research papers and corporate studies as well.

        Any thoughts on this route?

It definitely helps if you can approach experts near you in person. By them lunch. You'd be surprised how many people just love talking about their field.

I also think that the type of field would also impact how much to pay. That's a great idea about it being a way for them to promote themselves.
