A good response to,'What do you do for a living'.

Here is a good response to you guys that don't want to bother explaining what internet marketing is to curious friends and family.

Simply say that you do e-commerce. That will answer 99% of the questions that turn up in their head- and it wouldn't be an incorrect answer either- as e-commerce is the sell of goods and services online.

This will prevent you having to explain what 'Internet marketing' is- and will allow you to come off professional and legit.

I do web development and also affiliate marketing, but when people ask me what I do for a living, I always just say "web development" rather than trying to explain what internet marketing is.

As far as explaining how internet marketing works, it's sometimes really hard to explain to people who don't know the industry. The most simple yet thorough explanation I have used is, "I'm independent contractor who sells products for companies in exchange for a commission of the sale". That's a pretty general description but it gets the job done.

I usually say I am an internet entrepreneur.

Of course these leads to more questions and eventually I have to explain what affiliate marketing is and what digital products are.

I've been saying internet marketing for years but with typically confused faces. Now I'm trialing "I'm obsessed with making money whilst I sleep, so I build online businesses that create income around the clock". It either goes one of two ways, either they're eager to know more or simply change the topic, or even walk away. I'll then know straight away if they're someone I'll be meeting again.

Tribe, imho that's too salesy a statement to work effectively. I know if I was told that, I would run, even if it would be good for me.
