Are sales letter pages still relevant?

Don't hate me, I'm only trying to confirm (or not) something I read the other day. Someone said that sales letter pages are losing ground, and shouldn't be used because they'll be a waste of time. The "new" paradigm is blogging and more authoritative type sites like that.

I'm unwilling to believe this is true, but thought I better check to make sure I didn't miss anything that I should know!

You lost me. Salespages are still everywhere. And authoritative blogs are everywhere. These are used for 2 different purposes.

Can you clarify or maybe indicate where you heard it?

I can't recall, it was a few days ago when I was reading through various articles and stuff. It surprised me, but it was recently written so I wondered how valid it was.

Sales letters are everywhere because everyone has used them for years. But yeah, just wanted to check on what I read, 'cause it just seems odd to think anyone would make such a claim without a good reason.

If you're talking about written sales pages, they're still relevant.

In fact, what I like about them is the fact that you can promote a sales letter to your list a lot more than a VSL, where most people won't bother to watch through the whole thing more than a couple of times (if that much).

Sales letters work great, especially if you're doing email marketing (so your readers can return to the page and skim it).

    Regards,
    Daniel

It still works. It's even better for offline approach. Why people think that everything must be online?

Sales letter are still everywhere, people have been using them for so long now...
However, people hate to look for something on Google or Bing and suddenly landing on a page that tries to sell them something!

Instead, they prefer to find a blog or a website that has tons of free information, plus products they can buy... that's how you build trust and credibility and that's how Blogging can facilitate the process of selling your own products without a boring 5000 words sales page !

If your sales page is boring you should hire someone else to write it.

Sales letters aren't dead. They aren't even diminishing in effect. what's dead... and always has been... is poor quality writing and poorly targeted marketing. A well crafted sales letter placed in front of the correct audience will make you wealthy.

P.S. This isn't necessarily directed at CityCowboy. I'm just using that line out of his post to make my point.

How else will people know you have something to sell, what it is and what it does?

Sales letter are still very much relevant. Maybe the copywriting has changed somewhat over the years and that webmasters are using more themes now, but sales letter pages are still there. Take a look at Jvzoo and Clickbank, and you'll still see most, if not all, still using sales letters pages for their product pages.

Unless you're an established big brand that needs no introduction, I don't see how you can sell products without a sales page.

It will always be different strokes for different folks and niches.

Age groups and attention spans just a couple variables to consider.

For me personally when I knew very little about long form sales pages as a consumer they had a lot more kick.

Now when I see them I feel like a professor grading pop quizzes.

They still work but the copy must be well written. Nowadays people are 'reacting' differently to marketing and your sales letter will need to 'adapt' in order for your readers to do what you want them to do.

Yes, they still work. At the same time it's always good to try new things and split test to see what works best.
