I have 20k visitors, but still can't collect email - why?

Hi guys! I'm doing everything I can to collect emails.
My website is in the fitness niche and I have 20k monthly views, very targeted visitors from google.
It's a website I purchased few months ago from EMpireFlippers. The reason that I purchased it was because I saw I have a lot of how to improve it - It's got a huge potential! It has a lot of stable organic traffic , but doesn't have an email list, a social media account, or any other monetization methods accept Amazon Affiliates. I feel like if adding more posts will increase search traffic too.

I started with trying to collect emails to generate a big list.
I'm using 2 channels techniques to collect emails with lead magnet :
1. I used HelloBar (Subscription popups tool) across my website (PM so I can send you the link to my website, I would really love your help) to collect leads.
The visitors are all looking for home gym equipment reviews. But still, I can't convert. I did a/b testing to my free lead magnet - it's
a. "My top 5 secrets for better workout results and faster fat loss" OR
b. "Get your free home workout plan!" .
Still, nothing. Does it makes sense?! 20k visitors?!

2. Pinterest + Apocalypsys to collect leads: it's a tool similar to Snip.ly (It lets you put yourown opt-in pop up on top of content from other websites, so it's a win win situation for both sides: they have the benefit of being shared and get exposure, and I can "ride" on top of other quality content to collect leads.
exmaple for my pinterest account: http://bit.ly/1U2zOQC
As you can see, everything I share is under my domain, but it's not leading to my website - it's leading to other people's website with my popup. I opened the account few days ago and so far I got 500 views from that But - I'm not getting any leads.

I would really appreciate any ideas! Thank you

I also dealing with Fitness site..but yes I " leaving money on the table " as I don't build list.

In fact initial I got ...I feel now a days if you dealing with fitness , health niche " people don't really input their email to get your update or even selling to them "

why I say so ..because these people rather sign up those big giant Health , fitness site ..aka like Muscle and Strength , Bodybuilding . c om ....or Men health , etc ...

I test before change my free unique e book or even really " special free stuffs " yet no body input their email to get it ..despite I have traffic.

so in the end I don't build list , more towards ..on Adsense ...the rest like click bank , amazon stuffs are just " bonus " ...

no doubt I know there are also managed to build a huge list from it but I feel ..is easy to build huge list on " marketing stuffs especially earn money " instead on fitness and health.

in fact presently I looking a all build in ready IM earn money funnel with build in responder for my 2nd target ..beside fitness niche

I can see your problem right there above, your lead magnet is not ultra specific to what your target audience is wanting.

If they are looking for gym equipment say for example a thread mill or bench, why would they be interested in a work out plan? OK OK in an indirect way yes the workout plan will work but only after they have found the equipment there looking for.

Define your target and present them with a message to market lead magnet!

You say that your traffic is interested in home gym equipment reviews. My first question would be...Is your traffic clicking on the links in your reviews?

If not, then your traffic may not be as real as you think it is.

Hi Smart Monkey Congrats on your investment from Empire Flippers!

As shaunybb is pointing out your customers are not really in fitness mode when landing on your site they are in shopping mode.

They are trying to make an educated decision one way or another and just need a little push one way or another.

If you could integrate a coupon as a trade for an email address it may do very well. Something along those lines.

Or a report on the actual buying process...for example

OK please follow up and let us know if you make any successful adjustments.

I am thoroughly confused....is this YOUR site (i.e., about YOU) or a site you purchased that pictures someone else???

The writing is not bad - but not exciting - most is about topics that can be found hundreds of places online - paleo diet - exercise machine comparisons, etc....I agree with the above that I might read the text and then go to another site to buy.

Wehn I go to the site I am IMMEDIATELY hit with a full page "my latest ebook signup"...why would I WANT the "latest" book? It's clear YOU want my email address. Not a good signup page - and there also a "trip" signup at the top of the index page.

From a quick look at your site, it seems to me you are totally missing you big "hook" on that site...and that's why I ask if YOU are person featured there.

THIS should be your index page or your main blog page...

(live link removed per OP request)

Everything else on the site should stem from that REAL (if it is) and personal story - seeing results motivates people - it will make them WANT to know more about you - care about your opinion on fitness product/books/equipment.

With the above page as your "entry" to your site - you can post all the other stuff and have those titles as "related" posts on the right. I think it would greatly increase the traction of that site.

I'd also add a before and after image to the header - to give people a taste of what's coming on your site or blog.

Edit: I'm talking about a total restructure of your site so the top of the "pyramid" is your "transformation". It's something most fitness sites don't have - it makes it personal - and people relate to that. People who relate to your success story will sign up for your list - though I'd suggest a better popup... and give people TIME to see your site before you push for their email.

Yup! A lot more work needs to be done... Consider optimizing the following:

      - Get A better Design for your site or Change the Theme
      - Don't push for the Email Signup right away, give them time to see your site
      - Make the Opt-in form look less intrusive and more beautifully designed
      - Offer a better SignUp Incentive, some report of your own case study
      - Write different content, separate yourself from the crowd

      Hope that helps

Wow, you guys are amazing. Thank you so much for those great tips.
Ok, I'm going to create a better lead magnet.
I'm also working on a new theme - a theme that looks more like a magazine.
The thing with that website is that we purchased it from a person and now he's not active anymore, so, we're just getting 4-3 good freelance writers. Do you think it will do the same impact if we have few "voices" on the website instead of a main one person?
My main goal here is content marketing. Promoting affiliates trough good and quality articles and emails. Unique and interesting articles. It will be written by experts from different fields. Of course I will start producing content only in the workout niche and then go wider, but still, I'm not very sure how to present the website - what would be the website's face..
Or maybe we should just keep a professional- magazine-spirit and not to present one person as the face of the website, because we have few writers and I'm aiming for growing it more and more.

Yes, you received very good advice!

I will add this: your website is too slow: 3.6 sec to load.

For instance, you homepage has 21 external Javascripts scripts and 23 external stylesheets. It's way too much http requests.

And you should put CSS at top and Javascript at bottom.

Maybe you should compress some images...

      Etc.

Speed is certainly not the most important thing about a website but it's important. A slow site doesn't give your visitors a good user experience. And it may be enough to significantly reduce your traffic and conversion rate: How loading time affects your bottom line.

20,000 visitors a month!? And NO ONES opting in?

Either your traffic isn't as targeted as you think, or the freebie you're giving away to people to optin is terrible.

Think about a problem your niche has, and create a gift that solves that problem. Nothing crazy. One BIG tip where they can get some 'results in advance'. Try that out...

OP said 20,000 visitors in the thread title but 20,000 views (visited pages) in his post.

Anyway nowadays many visitors are robots and some sites are particularly targeted by bots.

I am skeptical about the number of human visitors to this site. The number of real visitors could be much lower than expected.

When you say "no one" is opting in, do you mean zero or not very many?

If it's zero, I'd check two things first:

    1. Is there a technical problem with your optin?

    2. Question the 20,000 "people/views". As others have said, is your traffic real?

Hi guys, yes, my traffic is very real and we have a decent amount of purchases every month from amazon. at least 150 sales for high ticket fitness products (over $200 for each product)
When the visitors in my website clicks "buy it now from amazon" and actually buy the product- the conversion rate is 6% which is pretty high.
I have very few opt-in, it's only up for few days and I got 6 signups.
The whole visitors, as I said, coming from searching things like "the best treadmill" , or "the best home gym reviews" ... So...very targeted because they know what they want and they are in a buying mode..
    What do you think?

I think you might have an over complication issue here.

I don't know the opt-in brands you've been using, but I use Mailchimp as my email manager. Their opt-in templates are nice, but they require double opt-in, and the forms always seemed to ask for too much information. I had poor % optin.

So I went basic and installed Contact form 7 on my site, simply asking for their first name and email address. 10 Seconds. Have them running straight to a spare email address, no blocks.

      Opt-ins have rocketed.

The downside is I have to manually upload the names to Mailchimp every week when I do my newsletter. But knowing now how many people I was missing before, it's worth it.

      Hope this helps.

Well I'm using Hello Bar which is doing a pretty good job and automatically sends the leads to my autoresponder. I don't see any reason why do such a hard work and possibly miss so many "hot" leads, they opted in now for a reason - they want to get their free gift now and not when you're manually importing the leads

There might have been something the traffic knew about the site that you didn't -- hence why they sold the site.

If I were you, I'd just grow the search traffic and keep earning off of Amazon Affiliates. The USP is working so that's where I'd focus.

Are you getting FEW opt ins, or practically ZERO? If the latter is the case, I'd say you are getting fake traffic, that the original owner generated to sell you the site...

What I do is offer buyers a free Amazon giftcard in exchange for their email. Include a forced field that requires them to input the receipt transaction number.

In my experience, these type of shoppers can be rather capricous, but offering giftcards will bring in commissions often much greater than the giftcard cost.
