Is it to late to get start making money online?

I guess my biggest questions are can you actually make money online these days? I work in sales now, life insurance and for a motorcycle dealership. I have been reading obsessively every day for 3 - 4 hours a day on making money online for about a year. I am quite capable with a computer, I worked for a webhosting company for 5 years prior to working in sales. The biggest hurdle I find now, is there is little evidence of online financial success without a substantial investment. I have so many ideas but I feel without investing a substantial amount it wouldn't be worth it. So i guess my question would be. Apart from teaching others how to make money online, is it still plausible to make a living through either niche/affiliate/dropeshipping or online services, on a modest budjet.

Some of my idea.
After searching flippa to purchase an already profitable website to get started, I noticed that the most succesful sellers were simply refurbishing the same sites, purchasing catchy domains and resselling them. One seller sold the same T-shirt website 5 times and his net was over 50 K this year. I'm quite proficient with a computer, photoshop, design, I was considering building websites, but picking from my list of 500 original ideas, and selling them on flippa, putting genuine original content combined with unique twists on current popular flippa websites.

My next idea
A websites selling clickbate journalism sites. From my understanding the only real money in these news sites is using paid traffic and trying to make sure the paid traffic clicks = more then the cost of the traffic. but people seem to be crazy about getting into these websites now. So I thought about creating a business portal basically offering a package to set people up with wordpress news blogs with all original content written by me. and give some lessons on how to market them etc.

Authority niche sites.

I believe that google is ranking authority niche sites much better these days. I know there's money in micro niche sites if you are really good at it, but it really seems google is switching to a platform that really supports real new original content and lots of it. I considered making 5 websites, writing 1 - 3 articles a day per each, consistantly for 6 months, and using google adsense and seo to rank and turn these eventually into authority sites. However there are so many horror stories about google adsense people with 1000's of views and clicks making pennies. And I struggle to find a single topic that I can write about that I feel will be of interest to people.

I also have a book that I have been writing that I was thinking about shopping up into multiple books 30 pages long and selling them as an ebook series, but it seems that ebooks are becoming less and less profitable.

It's truely overwhelming looking at getting into internet marketing, I really just want somewhere to start that I can really dedicate myself to fully and make an attempt at, my fear is that I start in market that has zero ability to monatize. I want to know if there's a chance these days without buying traffic and having a huge budget.

Also what do you think of those dropship eccomerce stores that simply sell aliexpress items, i see them poping up all the time so I often wonder, but at the same time, everyone knows about aliexpress now so why wouldn't they just shop direct?

I have tried some ventures in the last year, I tried multiple teespring campaigns, one of them I broke even, I used targeted facebook ads, but after about 6 attempts, I realized this simply was costing me to much, I didn't have the nack for it. I created a poker website, where I would have private freeroles through pokerstars, and I would put up 5 - 10 dollars 3 times a week and on the facebook page and poker chat encourage people to go to my website to get the password, I did ok with adsense and a couple affiliate products for the first few months but then google cut me off and pokerstars didn't like that I was making money off them so they started blocking my account. It just seems as though there are millions of people trying that are so much more qualified and experienced, without a big cash flow it's hard to imagine coming up with any kind of successful online business now days. Would love for some guidence

You're right, it was about 10 years ago. Though Affiliate Marketing has been around since the late 90s, it was around 2004 when Google, Google Adsense, and blogging, the whole web 2.0 scene, RSS feeds, social bookmarking, all came together. Of course, much has change since then. It's not too late but it's not as easy as it once was. Nowadays, it's better to focus on long-term success.

It is never late to begin. I find from what you have posted, you expect immediate results and failing to see results within the first few days makes you switch to the next plan.

Stay consistent & Win in a single idea first and then diversify.

Do you see the pattern? You have ideas but follow up with excuses ("but") for why it probably won't work.

You need to plan and focus on ONE thing - one niche - one method - one site/blog - one group of products....whatever. Then work on that ONE plan for six solid months - and put some time and effort into it.

You probably know more than enough to make some decent money online....

    BUT....

the hard part is it's up to you to get it done. Make a plan of action - stick to it month after month and put in the time/effort to accomplish something.

A lot of us got started online because of the alternatives. When we focus on that nothing will stop us.

There are going to be future millionaires or even "thousanaires" on a totally new online venture/platform/social media/product/trend that is not even out yet.

So as you build your online empire keep your entrepreneur eyes open for it...them.

I understand your question. It's not easy. I'm on a similar journey. I have similar wordpress and design skills, and have made some money in a few niches; but like you have not been able to really hit a goldmine.

I have tried lots of things. And I was able to find great success in developing lead capture / funnels for biz opp seekers. This niche isn't for everybody, but it's worked for me. I have a few funnels live now, and a couple more in development. I'm able to present offers to these folks and make both one-time and residual sales.

My experience has been to try a lot of things and see what works. Everything takes work yes; but I've focused my time on what produces good income. So, don't be dismayed or afraid to continue experimenting. You'll keep getting closer to what will work for you.

    Good luck.

I have the feeling you already know the answer to your question. Of course it's possible to make money on the Internet, but you'll have to do things differently if you want to make money.

When will you have learned everything you need to know? You're spending half a day reading when you could be spending most or all of that time doing. I'm a proponent of business owners being students - but all you need to learn right now is how to do one thing well.

Yes, of course, but not until you change your mindset and your daily practice. You need focus. You will find that if you put all your effort into one simple system, you will see progress. You are putting way too much emphasis on needing to have a large budget. It's not necessary. You can bootstrap an online business - many of us got started that way.

It's evident that you have lots of ideas about what you might do for a business yourself. But as you talk about each idea there is always a reason (I would call it an "excuse") why you are holding back from trying the idea. At some point, you've got to quit this "defeatist" attitude and jump in to one business model and one niche.

You are correct. But forget about multiple sites right now. All you need to develop is one good site and it will take care of you well. Again, I'm encouraging you to focus on one thing - one niche - one selling system - one business model - one subject of interest to you.

It is overwhelming if you can't focus . . . and therein lies your biggest challenge. Do one thing and do it well. That's all you need to have a very profitable business. And having a large budget is not necessary.

You have rambled all over the place about making web sites, teespring, facebook campaigns, writing a book, poker, e-commerce stores, authority niche sites, clickbate sites, purchased web sites, WP news blogs, drop shipping, and all the rest.

Forget all that stuff. You are just beating yourself into a froth with unnecessary garbage.

Clear your mind, forget all your current false notions about what it takes to succeed online. Put all your effort into one niche and one simple selling system. You don't need lots of money to get started.

Get out of your own way. If you do that much, it will be a great beginning.

There's a chance that all of the stuff you mentioned could work out in the end IF you dedicated yourself to doing those things all the time. It sounds like you're expecting quick results and those methods above are not quick.

Everything you mentioned above should be more of a side project, something you work on while focusing on your real bread winner.

Because of your skill set there is one avenue of internet marketing that has the best chance for you to succeed and you kind of dabbled in it already...

Selling a product with paid advertising.

You said you dabbled in teespring and broke even. That's a lot better than 90% of the people who try it do. Although I wouldn't recommend teespring to start out or have it as a main bread winner, But I'm sure you can already see the potential of selling something using paid ads.

My suggestion to you would be to take the knowledge you learned doing that and either sell your own product / service or join a CPA network and promote affiliate products. That's really the only way you're going to go from nothing to making a living quickly on the internet.

I've been doing internet marketing for over 10 years now and nothing has come close in terms of % of success as doing affiliate marketing with paid advertising. You control everything about that business and you determine whether you succeed or not. You don't rely on anyone for your success and as long as you can keep running your ads, you will be making money.

It took me 3 years of running around like a chicken with his head cut off trying to find something to do just like you. But a friend introduced me to the idea of affiliate marketing and me being an impatient person, I didn't want to sit around and wait for google to give me traffic, so I went out and bought it.

I lost money at first, just as I'm sure you did, but eventually things turned around. Once you realize the potential of having access to millions and billions of people looking at your ad at the press of a button you begin to understand that the couple hundred or thousand you invest into it at the start is peanuts compared to what you could be making AND once you break into the profit your whole business you built can run on auto-pilot.

Once I accepted that I would fail at first and accepted that I would lose money. I began to learn from my mistakes and continue to improve my websites and marketing. Soon after I made my first profit and the amount of drive and motivation that gave me pushed me beyond anything I had ever imagined.

My first $10 profit day made me feel amazing. My first $100 profit made me feel invincible, but then something happens. After you reach $100 a day you realize that it's a lot easier to take your business from $100 a day to $1000 a day than it is to go from nothing to $100 a day. After you make your first $100 a day everything after is simply icing on the cake. And once you're there you will kick yourself for not doing it sooner because it's not as hard or daunting as people make it out to be. You just have to stick with it and learn from your mistakes early on.

So to sum everything up. If I were you right now, I would stick to selling a product or service using paid advertising. Because once you master paid advertising and learn how to sell people anything online, you become unstoppable. You can do almost anything, create any kind of product or business you want and be successful because you know how to make sales.

Best of luck to you. If you need some advice on where to start, feel free to PM me.

It is never too late, every day thousands of website are created, But most of them don't survive especially if they we're getting into a competitive niche. Sure it could have been better if you started in 2006, you could have ranked your new website easily into the first page, but now... The online world is very crowded with too many websites all competing with you on traffic.

Since you have inside knowledge about motorcycles and how sales work, and you have good writing skills, why not create an info-product about how to get the best deal when purchasing a motorcycle (or something along those lines). If you don't want to write it, you could create a video course. You could create a niche motorcycle blog where you could start an email list and promote your product (while also getting ad revenue).

Alternatively, you could create a product for motorcycle/car salespeople with tips on how to sell more and make more commissions.

Just an idea. Good luck with everything!

It certainly is never too late to get started. It is great that you have been reading so much, that is such an important aspect of learning business, marketing, etc., that anyone wanting to make money online needs to know.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can always create something new with your skill set. For instance, you said you were good with computers and photoshop...you can always make online courses or write more books on the topics you know well. As long as you can use something to collect emails with (ebook, free trial, 1 free course, etc.), you will be able to make some money. Having an email list can make a huge difference in an online business.

Whatever product or niche you decide to go into, I think it's worth going for paid traffic, even if you only have a few dollars per month to start with. Google Adsense can work fine, but it's less risky to start with Bing or maybe even 7Search. I prefer solo ads - you get a guaranteed number of clicks on a specific day or two, and you avoid all the messy keyword research and bidding.

    Here is the problem

Chances are, if you are paying for traffic then you're playing catch up with everyone else who just bought the 'latest' traffic method. That creates a learning curb...

Solution: make it easier on yourself and test paid traffic from emerging paid platforms; snapchat, pinterest, new PPV platforms etc...

Or you wanna go with the time sucking 'free' route, then you gotta put out a lot of SEO prepped content and maybe get seen in one or two years.

Solution: create epic SEO ready content AND start helping reporters and other bloggers out by becoming a source. You can go to sites like HARO or Source Bottle for this. Create buzz around you and what you know.

I don't think so. Niches abound with several good products. I remember in the old days the big question was "what to sell online" because not many affiliate programs were around...

And it was a lot easier to rank in the SEs then.

Now, there is an affiliate program for just about every product.

The key is mastering getting traffic. Even if you don't master it, become at least reasonable at it.

That is the #1 problem for most marketers face - getting the traffic.

You could go the SEO route but why leave your traffic at the mercy of Google. I learned that lesson the hard way.

Look at paid traffic and try to get good at that. It will pay off in the long run.

I am in the same boat as tyehunter. I have been experimenting with different internet sales approaches this last 12 months and cannot make anything. Affiliate Marketing sounds nice, however i cannot do links, images embedding them in webpages. I had one good affiliate company contact me and offer me a distributorship if i could get their products in new "brick and mortar" stores-i would get a percentage of the profits. I sent out hundreds of solicitation emails and didnt get one reply. The company is what you would consider a fine cookware maker and is sold through places like Kohls. I do have a Zazzle store site and i sold 2 items this year and made $5.00 total. Any suggestions as to who i could go to locally to have someone acutually show me how to do the affiliate link embed? I do have one GoDaddy domain name that has ads on it they placed. Even if you buy a website from GoDaddy they will not place your affiliate ads for you. Its awesome some of you are making 100s even 1000s per month passive income but like tyehunter i cant get any traction. Dan at westphalia1ATyahooDOTcom

Bit of a side comment here.

From what I can tell, facebook ads are a waste of money, specially lately, just my opinion.

It's never too late to start something and You can make a ton of money on the internet...but you need to start believing in yourself and get get clear on what you want and why you want it.

Then focus only on one thing that has the potential to make you money, make a plan of action and act on it until you see results.

And Stop reading for hours daily, you already know enough to start making money...read less and start implementing more. Do more experiments in your spare time... Knowledge is useless if it's not acted on.

Looks like you've got a good start with many skills...and as a few of
your fellow marketers on this thread have stated...just get started on
something you might enjoy...passion and endurance will see you thru...

Sounds lame, yet if you know you seriously enjoyed a specific area,
and focus on that alone...and stick with it...you'll be amazed at the
results...maybe not immediately...but down the line a bit...

    Just stay focused...and never quit...

    Hello Tyehunter,
You are asking so many questions that it would take months to discuss them all. Therefore, I just focus on one opportunity to make money from the internet; authority niche sites.
This type of content marketing is becoming more and more competitive due to the permanent growth of the number of competing sites. On the other hand, content marketing is just interesting if you come up on the first search page of Google. So for each phrase the number of interesting spots at Google Search was and keeps ten. To win this battle with best content and floods of best content in order to get targeted visitors from Google becomes more complicated, say time consuming. Moreover, even if you are on the top it doesn’t mean at all you will stay there. You have to keep publishing good content and you have to be liked by Google otherwise you are moving down.
Content marketing is still interesting for new products and consequently new phrases without strong competition. So on the short track you will get at least a spike of traffic. If the new product becomes evergreen there will be also a permanent flow of traffic on the long term if you keep publishing.

depend what niche you do , etc how they marketing etc.

but overall I still feel TIME is the key point.

Lots of good answers so i won't repeat what has been said other than the big money is doing what others are not doing, but it is a better idea to find a competent and trustworthy teacher and copy them.

From what i hear drop shipping may have had its time. I believe the space to be very competitive at this stage, but don't forget that every day brings new people to the internet. The pool of customers is just getting bigger by the day, and the growth is still pretty rediculous even at this late stage.

One avenue i would recommend looking into is bricks and mortar businesses that don't have a sufficient online presence.

We internet marketers know the power and reach of the internet, but many many business owners are still ignorant as to how much they could grow their business with the power of the internet. You could find some of those businesses and help them grow, and reach new customers.

  • Yes. It is too late. Give up now and learn to enjoy living 10 hours a day in your cubicle. Poor children in China do not even have a cubicle.

Or, realize that internet marketing comprises many solutions for success and is continually evolving. Your job is to keep abreast in a hermetically-sealed mason jar in your refrigerator, strike that, is to keep abreast of what's new and happening in the industry and explore how you might make use of it in your own business.

To stay grounded in the face of a veritable blizzard of IM products being thrust upon you daily, keep in mind your ideal scenario as a seller: being in a room full of hungry buyers who desperately want to buy exactly what it is you're selling.

Your task is to utilize the state-of-the-art in IM to place yourself as closely as possible to that scenario here in the real world.
