Why isn't pay-per-call that popular?

A few years back, everybody was saying pay-per-call was the next big thing for affiliate marketers---given the growth in mobile traffic.

Yet I hardly here anybody saying anything about it anymore. I heard there were issues with commission shaving/low conversions.

Is anybody here killing it with pay-per-call in 2016?

I would guess that most people have become accustomed to ordering online. Especially with "Smart Phones." Just a guess. : ) I suppose it's something worth testing.

Well, the closing rates with phone calls is WAY higher than any lead form, or sales page. It's night and day.

That's why pay-per-call networks tend to pay a generous amount.

I'm just surprised it hasn't become more popular with affiliates...

I agree with Jonathan 2.0. So many interactions with businesses can be done online: Looking at accounts, paying bills, buying an insurance policy, etc. While there is some room for pay per call to make a profit and become a successful campaign, there are those who are turned off by having to make a call and would rather do something else online to make money. Just my opinion though.

For me, it's a matter of trust and tracking. There's too many potential "leaks" to ensure getting credit for calls generated.

Yea, it's funny though because pay-per-call was supposed to resolve the "leakage" problem when affiliates would send people to landing pages with a phone# listed.

But surely, there has to be some PPC networks that pay out. Anybody got any recommendations?

I am not sure where you got this information from.
Pay per call is going as strong as ever.
There are plenty of solid out of the box tracking platforms for pay per call as well.
I imagine you can crush it on pay per call if you put the right systems in place to monetize everything.
Pay per call is a different beast then traditional CPA leads.
