So yea, anyone can do it. You don't need any special tools, but blogs and email lists are pretty handy.

Affiliate marketing is promoting someone else's product and taking a cut (Commission).

To do this you need to drive traffic to an option form. This will capture the essentials (name and e-mail).
From this you will create leads (your list: The most important part of your arsenal). After joining your list they will land on a Thank You Page or Landing Page. This will promote the product you're going to sell. If they don't buy, it's okay. You will now have their e-mail address. Set up an auto-responder that automatically sends out your pre-composed e-mails to promote yourself and the product.

Also remember to provide free congruent information that is relevant to the product within your message. This will make you trustworthy and provide more value for money. E.g If you're selling an abs programme in the diet and fitness niche then maybe have a little e-book or just text and picture content that's congruent, such as The Top 5 Foods You Shouldn't Eat If You Want A Flat Belly

You need to go to Google and Youtube and begin doing some research on what it is. You can even use the search feature in this forum to get all sorts of information. The owner of the product or service is benefiting for us the affiliate sending over a visitor and pays us a commission for doing so. We don't need to have a product or handle customer service or deliverable or anything. Just refer somebody over then or job is done! Of course today we want to be leveraging our marketing by building a list and that way we can build a relationship with our list and continue to promote other products and services.

Simple - you sell something for someone and they pay you commission in return
