I know I need to work, but is my goal realistic?

So here is the idea.

I have been ravenously consuming all the information I can get my hands on for free over the past couple of weeks to really learn about earning money online. I want to know if I can realistically expect to make $800 or so a month online? This is of course with little experience and little capital but plenty of time.

What do you guys think?

Yes you can realistically hope to make $800 per month, with effort on your part.

Now specifically, what should you do? Sell a product or service, either, or both.

But, just try one. Keep really good notes on your tactics. When you discover something that works at selling your product or service, stop doing everything else, and focus all your efforts on doing that which worked.

Discipline. Discipline. Discipline. It might be the most boring thing, to you, but if it makes money... keep at it. The lessons you learn will be invaluable.

Lastly, I'm being very vague on purpose. Selling is all it takes to make money, anywhere. The what and the how, you must discover. I can't tell you.

Yes, this is quite a realistic goal.

However, don't expect to make that much in your first month...

You say you have little experience, so you'll obviously need to get good at whatever business you choose by actually doing what's required - and that's the part you can't avoid, so you'll just have to be patient.

As for the little capital, you don't need much to get started.

A domain name, web hosting, and an email service provider (autoresponder) can easily cost you less than $30/month going forward.

    Regards,
    Daniel

Your goal is realistic. There are so many different ways to make money online. You can freelance. You can get into affiliate marketing. You can create your own blogs and sites and find ways to monetize and get traffic to them.

It's realistic. It may seem impossible to achieve but if you are willing to put too much effort and pour a large amount of dedication then it will be possible. It's all about your patience and enthusiasm.

You mention you have ZERO experience. The first thing I'll advice you to do...get experience.

Go study as much as you can about marketing and go implement it.

Yes, making $800 a month is attainable...I know many people who do it. You just need to put in the work to get there.

    The Key is Action

If I could go back to the time I first started out... were your right now... here is what I would tell myself:

STOP LEARNING Start DOING >>> We humans are Addicted to knowledge which often leeds to that we actually never take Action (Yes Im a Information Junkie Myself )

    >>> You learn in skool how to learn (basically so you can become a slave ) and never to actually take Action

All the successful people I know have learned how to become Addicted to taking ACTION
which has lead to Massive amounts of Success

    Hope this helps you

For me personally it was much much harder to make money online then it is for finding ways to help other people online. Yes throw popcorn at me its corny but true!

In your unique circumstances affiliate marketing would be good place to start..if you want monthly income then think monthly recurring like memberships or hosting etc.

Go to blogs like SmartPassiveIncome.com and he shares what is paying him month after month year after year and every detail of where and how he promotes!

I love income statements! More education on them than any forum post you can find.

  • It's a realistic goal, but if I were you, I'd build a list and learn how to market to it. Learn how to write an effective email, simple, to the point and persuasive. Because if you can do that, then making more money is as simple as growing your list. And growing your list is as simple as buying your traffic.

But first, you must learn how to effectively divert that traffic to the offer.

I love your motivation. You said a key word, "Plenty of time." With making money online you will need plenty of time or plenty of money.

    The truth...???
$800/month for newbie with zero experience?
    It's kind of NOT realistic!

When you said "Plenty of Time" ... that's not the best investment you can have.
It took me personally almost 3 years to start from zero ($0 & no experience at all) until the first dollar I could make.
So, I would suggest you to invest some money to get an experienced coach (in your niche/passion) and eliminate your "Plenty of Time" wasting for years.

    Good luck!

      Hey super,
In all due respect, going three years before making your first dollar is not typical and very disconcerting. If you can't make that first dollar within the first couple months of concerted effort then I tell most people this is not for them.

      Seriously !!

Of course there is ALWAYS exceptions and you seem to buck the trend in your case. So Iam not here to criticize you.

Just trying to convey to others they should shoot for something in a more timely manner

Well, I assumed the OP is from places like me as he asked if $800/month was realistic or not. He didn't make it way more than $1K. He made his own limitation (I know it's a lot in countries like mine).
        - However, I might be wrong with my assumption. -

Back on my time started the IM journey, where PayPal wasn't available yet, then the language barrier, internet speed, youtube even not exist yet, no coach or even an experienced friend to give starting guidance, a lot of buying crappy secrets, etc... and spent almost 3 years and hit the first profit... I then shared my own experience as opinion just to tell the truth.

I might be wrong, but just want to put him to be more realistic with the action, not the numbers. That's my point. Just do it and get the numbers follow the action. Don't spend a lot of the time like I did before to reach the numbers. If we put the numbers in our head, without experience, we will follow any direction possible and change it overtime due that shinny dream offers, instead of choosing a direction we want or like to go with and start to make money as much as we can.

        But you're right Robert.
They should shoot for something in a more timely manner.

        BTW, sorry for my English.

Possible? Absolutely. But I'm with Superowid above that it's not too realistic if you've never made much money online before.

Most people go about marketing all wrong, so take plenty of time to educate yourself. There are plenty of free blogs online that cover everything you need.

If you don't look for schemes or "systems" and focus on creating real value to a specific community, you'll have much better results.

Hello any goal that you have is only realistic if you are willing to put the hard work in
you can't just sit there and say my goal is to make 5k a month and expect it to happen.

You have to work out a strategy on how you are going to make it happen what are you willing to give in return ask yourself have you got the desire to make it happen.

I wish you well and always take action because only you are going to do the hard work nobody is going to do it for you.

A lot of vague answers in this thread.

What's YOUR comfort zone for monthly revenue, Nonmir? Is $800 "a lot of money" or not much at all for you?

That will be the foremost factor in whether you achieve the target or not.

At least you have a target. That's a powerful start, and most newbies never get there.

    Now as to execution.

What will you sell that will get you to the target?

Will it be an affiliate product for $1600 that you make 50% commission on?

A service you do for $400, and have to sell 2 of?

A digital product at $10 you must sell 80 or more of?

As you can see from these examples, there are fast and slow ways to get there. And your comfort zone will dictate what you choose...because if you don't believe you can sell 1 x $1600 program, you won't even try.

    On the other hand, 80 x $10 = a lot of work. That's 80/30 = about 3 sales a day.

Which brings us to the question of Traffic.

Do you have a steady and sufficient source of pre-qualified leads for your offer?

This is where most funnels break down, and the creators don't even know it. They don't have enough leads coming in to meet their revenue target...but they're unaware of that fact. So they're beaten before they start.

Obviously this is dependent on the # of sales you need. The ratios are:

Unqualified Leads >>> Qualified Leads >>> Sales.

So work backwards. Estimate first, and then gather data as you go to compare Planned vs Actual and adjust. If you need 2 Sales, then you'll probably need 20 Qualified Leads, and therefore 200 or more Unqualified Leads. Maybe 400. Maybe more.

    Do you have them?

There are only two elements of the Revenue Equation, and they are Traffic...and Conversion.

Don't leave this to chance, because it is the engine of your business.

Estimate first. Then compare your actual results against the plan, and adjust your traffic source or quantity, or conversion method, accordingly.

Adjust ONE THING at a time. Otherwise, you'll never be able to figure out what you did that made the difference. People screw this up, too--you see them coming back to the forum shrieking about all the changes they're making to their copy, their web design, and their funnel...how the heck are they ever going to know which change worked?

Don't be like them. Map out your funnel and watch the numbers. That's what a professional does.

Do you have a specific way of making money that you intend to pursue? You must focus. Determine what the best method out there is the best for you and then work, work, don't move away from your computer, don't stop for 3 months. That's it.

    Hi,

What is it that want to do?

Can what you're doing be measured so that you can look at your
    results and scale accordingly?

Do you have a service or experience you can offer people in
    exchange for money?

I always say and always will say this to anyone starting out online...

    1. It takes time to MAKE money with ANY kind of system, method,
    blueprint online.

    2. So why not build a list of people (email list that is) that are SUPER
hungry to learn about something they NEED help with.

    3. So that YOU can help find them that solution.

    4. Then YOU simply charge them for that help!!!

    Over and over again.

Hopefully this gives you some real focus before diving or falling into

    themselves.

  • $800 a month (or even a year) is NOT a realistic goal, if what you're doing is ineffective and doesn't get R-E-S-U-L-T-S.

Start small. Basic. Get one person to buy one thing from you. Then, take what you learned and tweak it until your sales plateau. Then, scale it up by driving more and more traffic to it, both free and paid.

Build on your successes. But first, have a success from which to build upon.

800$ is a realistic goal indeed. but like other already mention here, it is not going to be instant. you will spend months of learning and doing, just to get things right. most people will give up during that first few months of not seeing result. but because you have plenty of time, please put it into learning and taking action, don't give up, for if you give up, that is the end of everything.
IM is a business, so just like any business, don't expect to make profit on your few months.

actually realistic or not depends on you, it's a mind game. but in my personal opinion if you have "no experience at all", I guess it's not realistic. you need to take some risks trying some techniques, get some failures, and take lessons from it in order to make you better at it. choose the best technique that fits you and start from that place.

life is risk. take risk more, it means you increase your success but the worst is you fail
but if you don't take risk, don't do anything ... you fail. so good luck

Ok, so here's some advice. STOP consuming information. START doing something.

Really, the more I speak with people the more I realize they aren't incapable of doing what needs to be done to be successful online, but they don't ever take the next step and actually get to work.

Are you writing? You should be.

Do you have a series of conversion rate tests set up yet? You should.

If you take action, especially in a logical and progressive manner-you'll be successful to a much higher extend than that-

Possibly. I don't want to put words in the OP's mouth. I'm not even sure the OP ever came back. I was speaking in the general case.

You are right in that every answer has been to that question, essentially "Do you think $800 a month is realistic?" But nearly all of them are OPINIONS. Not fact-based. I showed the OP how to actually achieve it.

As you've correctly pointed out, advice at that level was unsolicited...only the emotional opinions of others was.

Do people here really succeed with motivational quotes?

Do they really spend a ton of their day "getting motivated"?

Do they drive blindly, without numbers and road maps to help them steer?

        That's truly scary.

    Dude,

I too struggled with setting a "realistic" goal. And this is what I realized.

$800 or even $8,000 a month is a realistic goal -- ask your yourself, "Has anyone you know or heard achieved this?"

This goal is just not realistic or Believable to you.

You don't believe it's achievable because you have not achieved that yet -- likely with the limited work/effort you out in.

How do you achieve this goal?

It's much easier if you start with a strong WHY. Why do you have to achieve this? Who would you disappoint if you don't? What scary consequences will happen to you if you don't?

Ever head, it's not the How, it's the Why? Cheesy, but totally true.

As I look back, most of the success have been a strong reason why I had to achieve and I did. Look back at your life and you may be the same.

Understand that there's Pain involved because we are doing something "new" (what we have yet to achieve) and that requires new effort, outside our normal comfort zone.

Your Why will help you overcome the Pain. Without the Why you will be back here posting another question instead of putting in the Work. It's too painful to proceed and less painful to write another question. You must have Pain to stay/remain the same which will cause you to overcome the (work) Pain to change.

Tony Robbins -- 'Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.'

Bottom-line. You need to have a strong Why and make All your last excuses yesterday... little money, little experience. Focus on Reasons to Do -- to improve your skills and overcoming obstacles once you have your Why.

Just think. If you put in more than enough Effort to make $8,000 a month. You will achieve your $800 goal and more. No one without a good reason (Why) would do that.
