How to attract visitors to comment on my blog

Hi there,

Coming straight to the point, my site is getting automated spam comments consistently. Akismet has protected my site from 140 spam comments already.

I have been using Stop Spammers Spam Control Plugin, which blocks spammers from leaving comments or logging in. As said it Protected my site from robot registrations and malicious attacks. But since then I didn't get even normal comments.

How to get visitors to comment on my blog? I usually end my posts with a call to action. What else can be done?

I know you heard this already, but I'll still say it anyway. Content is the key. That's the number one key to make visitors comment on your blog post. As I have read on one of the thread here "Be informative yet entertaining with your posts." Do not create too boring contents. Make some entertainment out of that information. Just be creative and imaginative.

  • To attract the visitors you must use some tips and techniques.Post knowledgeable and informative blogs with more and more images because now a days people read less content so usage of images will attract them.Keep visitors updated and do promotions of your blog.Do post your blogs in regular basis which will attract them and they will start reading your blogs.Post valuable things in your blog i.e from day to day topics and make your blogs colorful, simple and attractive.

Even I feel that people read less, but case studies have shown that pages with an average of 1000-1500 words are ranked in the first pages of google. I generally average my posts to about 1000 words. All this seems to be confusing to me.

One of the biggest worries bloggers have is the silent blog syndrome. After putting endless hours of hard work into your blog, you find that it remains silent. No one comments. No one argues. No one praises. It’s a dark and lonely place.

How do you get people to comment on your blog? What tricks, techniques, and powers of persuasion must you possess? A quiet blog can be depressing, while an active blog is exciting. Once people start chiming in, sharing tips, arguing points, and having a conversation, you feel as if your blogging existence has finally been validated.

I know there are blogs where I would be willing to leave a comment, but I just can’t do it because of a broken comment system. Maybe the Captcha code isn’t working. Or I’m forced to choose an avatar. Or I have to log in to some system. Or I have to wait for the moderator to approve my comment. Or I don’t even know where to click to leave a comment.

All of these factors are comment killers. Look at your blog commenting process with fresh eyes. Or have someone else look at it, navigate it, and try to leave a comment. Fix any barriers and move on.

    I hope this helps.

Great advice, Thank you for sharing. For some reason I forget how valuable facebook groups are. Facebook is always in the top 5 of the most trafficked website on the internet. With the countless groups that are available within Facebook, your more than likely to hit a goldmine of like minded people within your niche who are commenting on topics that are related to your blogs niche already. At this point, it's a matter of networking, becoming friends, and sharing your expertise within the group and other members sites. Once this happens, they will naturally gravitate to your blog and comment on topics relevant to the group, especially if it's unique, insightful, and even raises a few eyebrows.

What do you think about starting your own group?

But I wont give up! Will try my luck! Can you suggest any active fb groups that might be helpful!

      Hello Hayward,

That's interesting. I'm very badly struck with this so called "silent blog syndrome".
As a blog commentator, I know how to feels like to comment on blogs with complex commenting system. Moreover, my blog doesn't have a broken structure. I've avoided CAPTCHA too. I feel it discourages visitors from commenting.Earlier, I used to have subscribe to blog, now I removed that as well.
To avoid spam comments is adopted "comment moderation".
All in all I have a simple commenting system. All I need is visitors who are willing to comment back and show their like or dislike for the content.I donno what's stopping them from commenting. Whatever few comments I get, are purely for backlinks.
Anyways Thanks for your valuable suggestions

I don't know how many visitors you are getting on that page but depending on the content and the ratio of number of comments will be low as most people just jump off the site after reading without even bothering to comment. Try to add social sharing icons so people can bring more attention to other people and spread it out more.

      Hi,

That's true, the ratio depends on the number of visitors the blog receives. Right now I'm not getting immense traffic, only a few. I lrecently started off my blog, and so waiting for the magic to happen. But my blog is showing good growth. I already added social sharing icons to my site.

That's good that the traffic is growing also people might leave more comments if the post was useful to them like funny or helpful in other way. if the post just provides information they already know they will probably not even continue reading and therefore they wont see the comment section.

Look at this realistically, why would anyone comment on your blog? What would be the reason for conversation? What would be the topic of an conversation?

Most MMO blogs usually don't attract a lot of comments.

You may get occasional comments as you go on, but if you want conversations under every post you'll have to get bigger. You just started your blog, comments are result of traffic, so focus on traffic for now.

Make it easy for people to post comment in the future, and more importantly, give them a reason to want to post a comment, right now they don't have one.

Creating unique and quality content is the important step to attract visitors to your blog. Besides, if you want to receive a lot of comments, your content need to have encouragement element that make visitors want to discuss about that topic. To do that, you have to find out the hot news every day, and create according your own unique way. Good luck!

Good quality content will always get the online community buzzing and sharing your links. This will in turn help you receive engaging comments. By becoming an authority in your niche, and a well known figure will always help as well. Making friends and leaving comments on other blogs will help you gain comments from friends as followers as well.

You have to write quality content that visitors will love. Your content will motivate users to comment. If you can do it technically then you will able to get comments in your blog.

      Hi Edwin Torres,

Thanks for the tip. I recently started using comment luv plugin, but the results are still the same. Do I have to include my blog in comment luv enabled blogs list?
I have started with the free version. Because of which I had to install supporting plugins. My site speed reduced, facing issues. Can you suggest me?

Unbeknownst to most people their is quite a bit of, "fake traffic," that is sent to blogs and websites. Blog spammers are a headache they target WordPress sites all day everyday with sophisticated black hat software. You may want to consider blocking certain regions and ip's that continue to attack your site. Make sure you are taking the proper security measures for your site.

A large portion of people that comment on blogs and websites are subscribers on a website. If your site is lacking in user comments I would recommend learning to how to grow your email list ASAP. Every time you make a post, or article send an email to your subscribers and ask them to share their thoughts on the post.

Your call to action may have something to do with it.

Too many bloggers settle for CTAs like "be sure to leave a comment."

Better to ask for conversation by asking questions or asking for personal stories. Then respond to real comments you do get. This lends a feeling that there's life in the post, not just a blogger talking into the wind.

      Hi,

Thats true! I have been trying to create attractive headlines wherever possible. Most of my posts are informative and educational, so not able to create traction with headlines with such topics. Im implementing this technique for other posts.

Sorry to hear you're getting spam on your blog.

There are heaps of threads on here about getting traction for your blog.

I would tend to agree with everyone here and say that to get genuine comments you might consider the following:

    - Fresh and regular content - this should all be unique and tailored to your audience. I believe it should really be niche if possible and provide information people can't find anywhere else. Always ensure the content is free from spelling and grammar errors.

    - Create a list of influencers and invite them to comment - this could be a way to get your blog taken seriously. If you share your blog and start a dialogue with some influencers in your market you might be able to get a bit of traction here. If they comment or if you can get them to do a guest blog you might be able to increase reach.

Alternatively, can you set up a subscription system which allows you to check your subscribers and their if they are genuine before they can post? Not sure if this is possible or not.

    Good luck.

You would need to give your visitors some sort of an incentive or a FREE thing valuable to them in return for an comment. This give and take thing works well...

A single call to action isn't enough, besides if you put it in the end people need to read everything or the last part to read it.

Make the reading interesting and add a call to action everywhere (not spam). For example, I have the habit of stop reading and start making my comment when I see something interesting to avoid missing it, then I keep reading.

Lots of times I read only 50% of the post and if the call to action was only at the bottom, well I didn't see it at all.
