Why the money Is In the phone numbers! (SMS Marketing)

Hey fellow marketers,

Almost every smart Internet marketer is focusing on one thing, and one thing only... Growing their eMail list!

I'm sure everyone has heard of the saying,''the money is in the list''... But no one has ever said that, ''the money is in the phone numbers''. Lol

Here are some interesting stats about SMS Marketing, that even Email Marketing can't compete with:

✓ 98% of all text messages are opened and read within minutes of receipt
✓ 61% of customers prefer receiving mobile offers
✓ 43% of consumers interact with a brand via text message
✓ 90% of text messages are read within only 15 minutes
✓ 96% of smartphone users use SMS
✓ 72.3% of marketers reported that they don't use SMS marketing
✓ 90% of mobile phone users have their phone at reach 14 hours a day
✓ On average 200,000 SMS messages are sent every second
✓ Mobile coupons are 10X more likely to be redeemed than Email coupons
✓ SMS messages have higher deliverability rates than E-mails
✓ Average Clickthrough rates of SMS messages is 19%
✓ 22% of text messages of value are forwarded to friends and family
✓ 58% of smartphone users never go 1 Hour without checking their phones
✓ 75% of smartphone users prefer to get notified of new offers via SMS
✓ 62% of text messages are remembered
✓ 6.9 trillion SMS were sent last year
✓19.3% of recipients have clicked a URL on a text message (while only 4.2% click on URLs in eMails, according to MailChimp).

I think we should start asking for our visitors phone numbers along with their first name and E-mail, what you think ?

    Cowboy,

What you've heard about "the money being in the list" may not be totally true. There are lots of people that have lists and no money. In fact, you can buy huge lists of over a million people for just a few dollars.

I always thought the money was in converting prospects to buyers, otherwise known as selling.

I think marketers should aim to get good targeted leads (prospects) from whatever marketing methods they can legally and profitably employ including email marketing, SMS marketing, and all the other methods of marketing.

I totally agree! one should not rely on one marketing channel, we need to expand to other profitable marketing methods like SMS marketing, etc.
