I made $31 with Clickbank and Bing but it was Refunded

I started advertising with Bing Ads using my direct affiliate link from Clickbank. I got over 700 ads impression and 10 clicks. My total spend is only $4 but I sold one CB product and earned $31.

However, the customer quickly asked for a refund, so my net earnings is still $0.

This shows that earning hundreds from CB is possible but you just have to choose a product that people will really love to avoid refunds. You also have to be careful with the keywords that you use to target ONLY the ones who are looking to buy.

      That's a decent earning.

Get used to the refunds if you are going to promote Clickbank products. I find it doesn't really matter what product you promote on there, either, there will be tons of refunds. I dropped them more than 2 years ago because I got sick and tired of losing 30% or more of my sales to refunds.

Some people are going to say it's the products I was promoting, and that's fine. However, I know that is not the case because I promote the same type of products now from JVZoo and Warrior Plus and the refund rate is less than 2%. It's RARE that I get any refunds at all now,and it's not uncommon for me to have 700-1000 affiliate sales per month.

I still get the occasional Clickbank sale from links that I have out there from the promos I did years ago, but I never count on the money because 9 times out of 10 it results in a refund anyway. And if you are going to promote a recurring payment product from Clickbank, don't count on getting more than the first or second payment before they cancel their membership.

My advice would be to find a different network. I love JVZoo and Warrior Plus, but there are lots of others like Clicksure, Peerfly, MaxBounty, Clicksia, Zaxaa, Payspree, Cash Network, Commission Junction, Share-A-Sale, etc. Many of those also offer instant payments once you develop a successful history with them. CPA offers often pay much higher commissions as well and some of them offer a no refund clause, where even if the customer refunds it gets absorbed by the vendor and not the affiliate.

Were you promoting CB products in the MMO niche? I hear the refund rate is amongst the highest in this niche.

Yes, that is the niche I am in.

HOWEVER, once I started promoting the SAME type of products on JVZoo and Warrior Plus, my refund rate dropped well below 2%.

For instance, last month I had 960 affiliate sales and only 11 refunds. Those were mostly JVZoo and Warrior Plus products. That is a refund rate of 1.15%.

If I did the same amount in Clickbank products I can almost guarantee the refund rate would be closer to 20% or even higher. This is the reason why I dumped them over 2 years ago.

I'm not sure why this is, but I have heard it from countless other marketers as well.

I'll never promote CB products ever again. There is no need to when I can absolutely crush it with other networks.

There is nothing like buying a 500 click solo ad for $300 and making 5 sales of a $100 CPA product knowing that I won't have to worry about losing any of them to refunds. $200 profit and 200-250 free new subscribers works for me all day.

That's another reason why I stopped messing with PPC ads and Facebook ads. It's near impossible to achieve a positive ROI and they don't like people in the "biz opp" niche anyway. Solo ads are the way to go if you want to delve into paid traffic.

Solos are an EASY way to build your list for free and make money. I do it EVERY DAY and have been doing it every day for the last 5 years. This is for the BIZ OPP niche only! Could it work for other niches? Yes, if you can find solo ad providers for them, but the reality is that 95% of all solo ad vendors are in the "biz opp" niche.

        1. Join a good CPA network that has biz opp offers that pay in the range of $75-$250. Personally, I like Cash Network. However, you'll need to be an established affiliate in order to be accepted there. If you cannot get accepted there then I recommend Clicksure. MaxBounty and Peerfly also have lots of decent offers and they are a bit easier to get accepted into, but they will still need to speak to you on the phone.

        2. Make a simple funnel. Something like this: SQUEEZE PAGE -> REDIRECT PAGE (for tracking) -> CPA OFFER. Send subscribers to your download page via your welcome email. Include several CPL (pay per lead) offers on your download page. Put an exit pop up on your squeeze page that redirects to a CPL offer. This way you can make a few bucks from your exit traffic. This helps to defer the cost of the solo.

        3. Buy a 500 click solo ad from a reputable vendor. I usually pay anywhere from .40 - .75 per click. Now, you need to make sure your squeeze page can convert at 40% or better. This takes some practice, but the most important aspect of this is your headline. Make it catchy and irresistible.

The goal here is simple. You want to convert at 40% or better, and you want to get those leads for free. This means you need to make a few sales to cover the cost of the solo. Most CPA networks provide conversion stats. Pick offers that are converting at 5% or better. You will understand why once you see the math I'm going to show you.

OK, so let's say you have your funnel set up and your solo ad bought. Let's look at a little math so I can show you how I have been building my list for free for the past 5 years and making a killing in the process.

        The System

I buy 500 clicks for .75 each. That costs me $375.

        I convert 500 clicks at 40%. That's 200 new subscribers.

Those 200 subscribers are redirected to the CPA offer I chose immediately after they subscribe.

That means 200 people will see the CPA offer. The CPA offer pays me $75 (I usually promote the ones that pay $90 - $100 per sale) for each sale I make, but for this example I'll use a lower paying offer just to show how easy this really is.

The CPA offer I picked is converting at 5%. If I send 200 people to the CPA offer and it converts at 5%, I should be able to make 10 sales. The truth is that it will most likely NOT convert at 5%. HOWEVER, it will most likely convert at around half that which would be 2.5%. This means that I should be able to make 5 sales (in many cases I make more).

        The Math

        500 clicks * .75 per click = $375

        Total ad spend - $375

        500 clicks converted at 40% = 200 new subscribers

200 clicks to a CPA that pays $75 results in 5 sales (2.5% conversion)

        Total spend = 500 * .75 = $375
        Total revenue = $75 * 5 = $375

As you can see, a WORST CASE SCENARIO for me means that I break even and get 200 new subscribers added to my list for FREE.

        I low balled these numbers.

There have been many times where I have bought 500 clicks for $200 and promoted a CPA offer that pays $100 and made 6 or 7 sales.

There are many times when I have converted as high as 47% or 48% instead of 40%.

Getting a positive ROI on solo ads is not difficult providing you have:

        1. A compelling squeeze page. I find that simple is best. A great headline with an opt-in box above the fold is all you need.

        2. A good solo ad vendor. This can be tricky, but I have been doing this for so long that I know and buy from all of the best sellers in the industry.

        3. A high converting CPA offer. These are easy to find, and most networks provide conversion stats. If you want to take it a step further, contact your affiliate manager and ask him to give you a hot offer. They know what is converting and will not steer you wrong.

        That's IT!

You DO NOT need all kinds of fancy software or a fancy squeeze page or some $1000 course by some "guru" to learn how to do this.

Once you get the hang of it, you upscale it and then rinse and repeat.

THOUSANDS of IMers are leveraging this same method to make 5 figures per month.

The important thing to remember is that your goal on the solo ad should be to break even so you get your subscribers for free.

What separates the men from the boys is the ability to then be able to build a relationship with your list (that you practically built for free) and turn them into repeat customers.

Remember folks, the money IS in the list.

Too many people fail at this because they don't see the big picture. They are too busy trying to make money on the solo ad buys. Forget that. You don't need to profit on the solo ad. You only need to BREAK EVEN so you can get your leads for free. The REAL money comes later when you start converting your subscribers into memberships that pay you recurring commissions every month.

Of course, the above won't work unless you TAKE ACTION.

No. All it shows is you lost money.

Anyone extrapolating hundreds in profits from 10 clicks and 1 refunded sale, and an overall loss of money, needs some serious business and statistics courses.

I'd say you were lucky to be down only the small amount you lost.

The lack of basic business fundamentals is one reason why there is a steady stream of newbie "marketers" who come through here, don't earn the easy money, and are gone.

    Hey Terinah
I remember your post about your reactions to negative comments, cool to hear that something went your way I can't say much about CB, but that sounds about right, you do want to focus your targeting towards the potential buyers, there is no point targeting people who are not likely to buy the product, just like there is no point targeting anyone below rich when you're trying to sell a 10.000$ product.
You always want to start your campaign by targeting specific group of buyers, depending on the product you're selling(or promoting), not the other way around.

    Good luck with future sales!

To get minimum of refunds you have to choose the product which have highest gravity and low refund rates. You can check or filter your searches in the Clickbank marketplaces.

Gravity has no bearing on refund rates. Also refund rates are not provided at the ClickBank Marketplace.

Yes, Bing ppc can work but the problem I think most people will come across is being able to generate enough targeted hits to scrape some sort of profit.

Last time I checked, the % of population using Bing for searches was something like 2-3% of all searches done...with Google not surprisingly tallying over 90% of all searches in North America.

I agree with this. That's why Bing ads is much cheaper.

Careful not to high jack the OPs thread !! maybe next time start another one as most of the answers have been about your efforts and not the Ops

Terinah! Don't back out just yet. You should celebrate that you at least ALREADY got a sale (even if it was refunded)!

I use to do the same: soon as something is not working for the first time, I shut it down without sticking to it until I see the real results.

To get a good judgement, I'd say to maybe reach about 100 clicks to your offer and see what your numbers are!

Don't forget: always be open to continuous learning and failure is a sign of getting closer to success.

    Cheers!

Congrats on your success. From my experience, there isn't much you can do about getting refunds as a clickbank affiliate. Even if the product is amazing you will still experience refunds. The key is to make enough sales so that the amount of refunds don't affect you as much.

If you can make 1 sale with a refund, you can make a second sale and with no refund. It's a numbers game, but as you get better at targeting, marketing, etc... the numbers will be more in your favor.
