What's Your Favorite Movie About Internet Marketing?
Middle Men (2009)
If you want to see how the Internet commerce had the most unusual beginnings, then this movie is a definitive must see. To this very day I can't believe that the revolutionary code, we use for credit card payments online, was initially invented for porn sites and industry. The pioneers of Internet business portrayed in this movie weren't flawless and brainiacs according to shiny Hollywood standards. Yet, they managed to initiate the most important business revolution in our history. For my taste, modern Internet marketers are good guys from your neighborhood obsessed more with their appearance and haircut, than with ideas they bring. The "heroes" of this movie were and still are brilliant sinners. See for yourself and assure you, it's going to be worth it.
True Mind Warriors:
Johnny Mnemonic (1995)
Limitless (2011)
Lucy (2014)
It's a little bit crowded here, don't you think? Yet, there's nothing to worry about. This "triumvirate" of self-improvement movies is a perfect match for our category called - Mind Warriors. Let's begin with Johnny Mnemonic.
When the majority of our Internet Marketer Millennials was still wearing diapers, William Gibson was writing his Cyberpunk novels. From this point in time, it's such a cliché to talk about human implants. Yet, some twenty years earlier this was a revolutionary concept. With the Internet of Things concept, which has already become a part of our homes, this movie gets a completely different tone and message. I have no doubts that Johnny Mnemonic has become a part of every IT and marketing guru's dearest wet dream.
When it comes to Limitless Bradley Cooper, you should do your best not to interpret the symbolic story about a super-power-pill in the wrong way. Yet, if I was to walk in Bradley's shoes, the Wall Street wouldn't be my first address. The Limitless hero should've been one hell of an Internet marketer. At the same time, Robert De Niro's character showed us that you don't need any magic pills to succeed in the world of business. For what is worth, this movie makes you think seriously about what you're willing to do in order to succeed. From zero to hero Robert De Niro more or less true stories should be taken with a grain of salt, for your own good.
To finish our chapter about Mind Warriors we have to mention Luc Besson's "Lucy" Scarlett Johansson. Without any exaggeration, I dare to say that this was one of the most influential movies among Internet marketers all over the world. All you have to do is to read a little bit more careful what they're saying on their blogs. The movie's message just couldn't be clearer: "The average person uses 10% of their brain capacity. Imagine what she could do with 100%." Some Warriors like to say that you don't have to have a brain at all in order to write my articles. I agree. Imagine what you could with the 100% capacity of some real writer's brain for a change. Wouldn't that be an article worth reading? Let's move on with our true IM movies.
The Joneses (2009)
This movie should be a part of every Internet marketing course, class, and lecture. How ethical is Internet marketing or any marketing activity in its essence? This is exactly what this movie is all about. For me, this is one of the first and scariest horror marketing movies. To be manipulated in the worst possible way for the sake of corporate financial plans is a scary thought. I'm not going to even try to spoil the huge surprise this movie hides for its viewers. Unfortunately and obviously, not too many Internet marketers have seen this educational movie. That's the main reason we have so many greed-is-good Gordon Gekko's copies in the Internet marketing world.
The Stepford Wives (2004)
If the Joneses were the horror family of Internet marketing movies, then the Stepford Wives are the horror-comedy version. You can laugh as much as you want, but at the end of the long marketing day, you will buy and order exactly what the evil marketing geniuses have expected from you. The concept of free will and free choice are obviously overrated in the brave new world of Internet marketing. It's a sad fact that people like to comment Nicole Kidman's hairstyle and dresses in this movie, rather than to remind themselves what happened to her character, eventually.
Idiocracy (2006)
Ten years later this movie shouldn't change a thing about the future it presented in an uncompromising way. I'm not going to try to describe it, and you aren't going to forget to see it again. Can we avoid the Idiocracy as the ultimate stage of Internet marketing? This isn't up to me to answer.
The Warriors (1979)
If this movie hasn't inspired the creator or creators of this website, then I have to say that I'm extremely disappointed. I don't know, maybe it's too expensive, you know rights to use and everything, but this forum should play the Warrior's main theme every time you log. Here it is for all true Warriors:
