Membership Pricing Questions

Is there an advantage of offering a really low monthly membership price to see how many people actually stick with paying monthly? Would it be worth the effort to price at $7/mo or not?

I have a new site where I'm offering digital products for download in the IM niche. Would it be better to just offer one price say $17-47 for everything one time, or a low $1 trial for seven days, then billed monthly for $7.

I know from past experience in my membership sites I was able to get people to sign up for a trial and pay $25/mo, but the drop off after a few months was dramatic. I understand there's a critical value component, but I'm not concerned with that question here. I've got the price/value issue worked out. I'm just asking about the price method.

I'm guessing people would rather pay one time, and hopefully most would not refund, then be faced with a membership commitment. But, I'd love to have another reoccurring income stream because obviously it's great for me, but I'll take one-off sales if that's easier.
