Hey, guys. I'm in the middle of building an Amazon site (used to promoting digital products) and have a few quick questions.

1. I'm quite indecisive when it comes to choosing themes. The site I'm creating is mostly going to be promoting a certain kind of t.v./film. Can you recommend a good, free theme?

2. Do people usually cloak their Amazon affiliate links? If so, would it be okay to use something like the "Pretty Link" Wordpress plugin (what I use on my digital-product sites)?

3. Is it okay to install a "mobile ready" plugin? I use WP Touch for my other sites.

Thanks,
Joey

Might want to read Amazon's rules and ensure that you're within them with whatever you do as quite a few of them refer to linking:

    30. You will not cloak, hide, spoof, or otherwise obscure the URL of your site containing Special Links (including by use of a redirecting page) or the user agent of the application in which Content is displayed or used such that we cannot reasonably determine the site or application from which a customer clicks through such Special Link to the Amazon Site.

Personally, I don't see any advantage to cloaking links that people know are going to take them to Amazon. But, I'm not 100% sure how amazons affiliate program works so just my opinion.

I would purchase a good theme and of course one that's responsive/mobile.

Thanks for telling me about link cloaking. It's been years since I've even thought about Amazon (state got banned a little while after I started online).

    1) Just pick the one that seems best. Don't waste time on this. Just do it.

    2) Don't cloak your links. Too many people worry about that. Just get your site up and your Amazon links inserted.

    3) Don't get a mobile ready plugin. Just use a theme that's responsive.

Forget everything else. Don't let bullshit steal your time. This board is FULL of bullshit and people spouting bullshit nonstop. Stop reading, stop thinking, just go do. Get your site up and go.

I know that's right - ha. Thanks for the advice. I already have digital/info-product sites. It's just that I don't usually promote physical products, so I'm being slower than normal. My Amazon site is technically already up. I'm just so nervous, I keep doing stupid stuff like changing the theme. I'm just going to leave the theme I've got up. Once I get used to promoting Amazon stuff, hopefully it will be the same way as when I promote digital stuff.

You might want to insert the earning disclaimer into your site too.
And like what the above have mentioned, never cloak your link. Once you logged into you Amazon affiliate account, you can generate a shorter link there.
