Except...

Im a bit baffled myself.

I've been doing videos now for 2 weeks or so via FB Live....

... and adding captions?

Making it useful for silent playing?

Not happy.

Have you considered the fact that lots of people play videos with the sound off?

Depends on your audience Barb. I think it also depends on the type of video it is.

All you can do is test it and see if it makes a difference in your conversions.

Personally, I put on a lot of videos and don't watch them.

I like to listen with the headphones as I wash the dishes or do something else with my eyes and hands.

That perfectly illustrates why respected influencers in video marketing take pains to stress that the audio quality of a video is far more important than the video quality. In spite of knowing that, many newbies insist on investing their hard earned dollars in expensive cameras. If only more of them would take a leaf out of Tai Lopez's book and just use a simple iPhone they'd be much further along on the path to success!

I agree with audio quality being important. However, I believe it's the audio content more than the quality.

Yes, the audio has to be decent without distractions, But the content in the audio often makes or breaks a video, not the video itself. Radio is still very popular, but silent movies...not so much.

But as Barb brought up, many people do watch at least part of a video on Facebook and you usually have to get the attention quickly without audio, as FB has autoplay so the video will "play" for a few seconds while people scroll. I'm not too sure the first couple of seconds of a FB video shouldn't be a call to action to enable the sound on the video.

Another thing that makes it tough to gauge is I believe FB counts any video that's played for even a second (not exact) as a video "view" so it's hard to tell if someone actually watched the video or not.

I agree that sound is more important than visual quality here. I tend to get tired of watching people's faces whenever they're talking on Facebook live so I think the audio part would be trending a little bit more.

i think sound and visual quality go hand-in-hand. although many people play videos with sound off, the content of those videos may get the message across without any sound. some videos need a good sound quality to reach the audience desired.

I think on Facebook it is more important to tell you story visually especially at the start of the video. Audio is important only if someone listens to it, and it is very easy to bypass audio on Facebook when someone is watching from their feed. Excellent visuals and a great story can entice someone to turn on the audio. Captioning on a Facebook video can be important too because it can help make the viewer curious enough to turn on the sound. Great audio will never be heard if it is not turned on because of a mediocre visual.

I think that if you're doing a FB live video people are there to see what you're talking about RIGHT NOW which is what FB live is for.

The videos the article is talking about is more for video ads. Ads that will be seen in the newsfeed but people wont turn on the volume for.

    Not sure tbh

Today I watched a vid that Kurt had on the offtopic something about scary vids and watched with no sound

Now what I also found was how easy it was to shut off as there was no volume to keep me listening
