Is Anyone Else Having This Wordpress Issue Lately?

I've had trouble with 3 different sites now where it says the following:

"The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies."

I've tried using Chrome, cleared cookies, etc and been on the phone with Hostgator support several times. I've also deactivated all plugins and reactivated them one at a time.

One time I had to delete the site and start over (it was fairly new). Another time it started working, but I have no idea why. The latest time the support guy said that it would work on his end when he changed my permalink settings. I keep them at /%postname%/ so I definitely didn't want to change them.

It seems like this problem started around the time of the Wordpress update to 4.5.2, but it's not affecting every site. That's what stumps me.

Anyone else having this problem? I'd appreciate any advice.

Joe

I once experienced the problem while working on clients website, although your case is that 3 different websites are experiencing the same problem. The options will be to look at .htaccess file or can be that the site is infected.

Sorry just pressed return key and it posted... Are you able to access wp-admin dashboard? If so, then you can turn on wp-debug and see what error message it displays on the header...

Now that you mention it, I've seen this 3 or 4 times the last week or so. I forget where I saw it but I just assumed it was a temporary wonky connection issue or something. I forget, actually, whether the site(s) came back up or not.

I know that is not really helpful. Just telling you that I've seen it too.

I have a wordpress site that was giving me that error last week. I received a Google Webmaster Tools alert that the domain was going to be flagged as malicious. Turned out I had a plugin that had an exploit and people were attempting to redirect traffic.

Interesting. Do you know which plugin it was?

Can you let us know if the plugin?

Well, I found a thread on Google where others were having the same issue and managed to fix it by clearing their Yahoo cookies. I have Yahoo set as my home page so it made sense to give it a try. Unfortunately, it hasn't helped.

    Still stumped.

I had the issue occur on a few sites but the issue ended up being with two separate plugins: Visual Composer & Slider Revolution. Both of theme came packaged with themes so once the theme author released an update for the theme, the issues went away. I see where you've disabled plugins so re-call what changes you made recently and back-track from there?

I just spoke to Hostgator support again last night and the guy I spoke to said that it was the Mojo Marketplace plugin. Sure enough, I deactivated it, deleted it and the site came up.

Oh, and he said that he changed my domain url to all lower case in the 'General Settings". I have a habit of capitalizing the first letter of each word in my domains and he said that was an issue. It sounds strange, but I recall one of my other sites not working after I did that, too, so maybe there's something to it?

Anyhow, I'm glad it's over. Maybe this thread will help someone else in the future.

Thanks for all of your input.
